IN - 8 Dead at Indianapolis FedEx Facility Mass Shooting, 15 Apr 2021

Imo he does seem to be a worker. He knew he couldnt get far inside the complex due to armed security so that's why he opened fire in the parking lot, imo.

He only got in right at the entrance. I think that's where he killed himself. He probably knew the armed guards would take him out.

Jmho

Either an employee or an ex-employee. Apparently they need to scan their FedEx badge to get inside, and he may no longer have had one. Plus the metal detectors would have sounded before he made it very far, if he had to pass through them to get inside.

I wonder why he thought he'd be able to bypass security measures, if he was an employee/ex-employee. Surely he would have known what entering the building entailed.

The building is outfitted with metal detectors and security turnstiles at its entrance that require employees to scan their FedEx badges.

What We Know About the Shooting in Indianapolis

Family members have gathered.

"Officer Cook asked people who had been unable to make contact with family members who work at FedEx to gather at a Holiday Inn Express about a mile from the warehouse, adding that representatives of the chaplain’s office of the police department would be there to assist them.

At about 2:45 a.m. on Friday, the mood was somber at the hotel, where about 110 people anxiously waited for news. FedEx employees are not allowed to use their phones on the floor of the warehouse, so those gathered had not heard from their loved ones.

Patricia Holman, the senior chaplain for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, was one of six chaplains who arrived at the hotel on Friday to provide counseling and comfort. She has been with the city for more than 30 years, first as a police officer, then as a chaplain.

“This isn’t the first time six of us have responded to an event,” she said. “But this is the first time six of us have been necessary.”

“It never gets easier,” she added."

According to witness (Levi Miller), someone ran to his car, opened the trunk to get his gun to stop the shooter - but he was tragically murdered by the shooter:

Scroll down to the third video on the news article:
(Levi Miller does say that he knows that the shooter "definitely worked at this building before)

So many prayers for everyone affected. Can not even imagine the terror from living through that. Or even knowing you are not safe anywhere. I am so sad for everyone.

This is another heartbreaking day and I’m shaken by the mass shooting at the FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis. Indiana State Police are working with local responders and we will continue to offer any and all resources needed to assist during this tragedy. 1/3

In times like this, words like justice and sorrow fall short in response for those senselessly taken. Our thoughts are with the families, friends, coworkers and all those affected by this terrible situation. 2/3

Today, I will order that flags be lower to half-staff from now until sunset on Tuesday, April 20 in remembrance of those we've lost. 3/3

Definitely something more than "thoughts and prayers" needs to be done. imo

It must be terrifying to think that anyone anywhere could get mass-killed, at any time, by a disgruntled worker or mentally ill person or whatever other reason why these perps are killing people they don't know.

True, but it's also true that many of the surviving family members of tragedies like this do not only appreciate all of the prayers, and support from everyone, but they also say they lean on their strong faith in God to get them through it.

That has been expressed many time by families of horrific tragedies.

The FBI is already at the suspect's home so they already know who he is.

Just horrible. I’m just shocked at the murder rate in Indy, well I guess it’s rising in most bigger cities. I use to love working downtown. Now I’m thankful I’m WFH permanently. What is going on with people.
I worked downtown for ten years and loved it. Walked all around on my lunch break, enjoyed visiting different restaurants and shops.

But with the increase in crime downtown, windows still boarded up after the “peaceful” protests, and many stores and restaurants permanently closed, I am happy not to be working there any longer.

All below is a QUICK paraphrasing... hard to hear questions from media... and many are not repeating questions as they probably aren't used to giving pressers and know to do such.

Q. What can you tell us about suspect
A. Very little as we cannot make positive identication. Suspect got out of car and did random shooting prior to entering while in parking lot. He went into building for brief time
?

A: We don't know that until we make positive identification and make all those connections
? Cannot hear
A: And that's accurate, we have an idea, we had some leads that led us to that location. Until we have confirmation from the coroners office, we won't be saying
Q: How many shots
A: We don't know
Q: Any indication this was anticipated
A: No, we are still doing interviews and talking to FedEx
?
A: By the time officers entered, the situation was over and that the suspect took his life before officers entered. I did not last long, a couple of minutes
Q: How many were in building
A: I don't know

A: 5 transported from scene, 4 non life threatening and one more......???

A: What I have heard as to family notification they were without their cell phones and that was certainly frustrating

A: We are checking for surveillance

A: I heard that anecdotally ??????
Q: Was there a shift change going on
A: I don't know, I don't have that answer, was an area where employees did breaks

A: Crime lab personnel have process to document and that will start with diagrams and photos and videos and evidence.. inside and outside.. will take a while

Person answering now transferred to Mayor Joe Hogsett and moves into gun control.... not going on much with paraphrasing here in thread as against TOS to start discussion on such...
A: I would point to the fact that just last week I signed re legislation to be required between private citizens and closed the Charleston loophole...... he is speaking now as to legislations etc etc etc etc...

more at links................... I'll stop here while Mayor does a lot of political stuff MOO

ETAs to follow if Q&A moves back to LE vs. politician....

back to LE

A: We believe it was a rifle, don't have specifics

A: Yes, we do have chaplains and victims assistance at a local hotel. We continue to stand by their side.

A: We are making sure we have identified the car he showed up in and will process as part of crime scene

A: We had 4 outside and 4 inside died

A: We really haven't, nothing gets moved. We don't check wallets or purses to ID until they have been released by coroner. We have not identified any family of victims. Hopefully in the next 24 hours

A: As to what folks were responsible for, (e.d. assuming job positions) that is a question for FedEx folks ( e.d. Oh dear, please don't push this to the employer to answer by media calling them now!)

Next up is Marion County Coroner
A: We have to wait until crime scene is done to go in to investigate identities and make positive ids. Indiana requires dental, fingerprints, DNA or family member to make a positive Identification.:(:(

A: The staff is going to need long term counseling, we have pulled in our entire staff of 30 persons. It is very time consuming and we are asking for additional resources for these death investigations.

A: Our first priorities is to the families. To ID, give death certificates, determine COD.

A: We think that we have reunited families and workers that were at the hospital, but I don't want to say for certain.

FINISHED PRESSER

The audio on all of the feeds I've tried has been TERRIBLE.

I did hear that they haven't id'd the shooter, but they did a search of his house?

They have preliminary id on suspect, waiting for confirmation. I am thinking shooter might be disfigured or?

I don't think that was info they wanted released, but the FBI agent said they were helping search the shooter's house. Oops.

Presser done... I did my best at paraphrasing the entire presser in post #54.

I assume the same reason in that presser of releasing ID applies to the shooter. I see nothing to make me believe the reason is due to disfigurement of the shooter as a poster asked above. It's in the presser coroner statement what this state requires to release ID. Coroner ID vs. LE/FBI ID are two different things MOO (Noting that the coroner was the one to answer)
