Does anyone remember the possible suicide that happened fairly close to Delphi, IIRC month or so ago? A body was found hanging in the woods that possibly had bullet wounds ?

I can't find a thing about that now. I'm curious if the name , age and cause of death was released? We spoke of it here, but I can't seem to find the posts? Google hasn't been much of a friend here.

I've hesitated for days about asking as to not have to rehash old stuff.

TIA🌹

No link handy, but LE said no foul play was suspected.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says a person found in a field area died by suicide. They've identified the person as a 17-year-old from Osceola.

Thanks again to BigCityAccountant, here's the link to the Feb 22nd abc news report that contains the "phantom" image of BG in the video.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/police-release-audio-clip-victims-phone-hopes-catching/story?id=45655692

It also featured the latest news of the case:

"Previously he was labeled a person of interest, and police had said he might be only a witness to the crime.

But this morning Slocum said at the news conference, "We are actively looking for this person. We believe this person is our suspect."

I'm still going down the path of "Do you think you're chasing a phantom?" and a possible copycat killer.....

I've leaving this where I can find it when I have more time to listen closely to the audio. I may be trodding down a path to nowhere but I think the Phantom connection is intriguing all the same.

Israel Keyes admired Ted Bundy. Seems to me some of the more sophisticated SK's have a tendency to have had influences on their methods and tactics, especially when the media have sensationalized these cases over the last several decades.

It's possible. Anything is possible.

If RL is BG then I can't see how LE would keep wasting resources by asking for tips. I would also think they would give media slightly more enthusiastic answers and would state more that they were making positive progress towards zeroing in on him.

And not related to your post, but if BG isn't local or even from Indiana, then I'm leaning towards serial killer and one who has done this before. Unless it was a local grudge killing, one doesn't simply start killing two people at the same time. But to a SK, it would be something he's done before.

BBM
I'm leaning that way. I don't see how this guy could have pulled this off, and got out of there, especially w/cops everywhere, searchers everywhere, if he were a first timer. Seems he kept his cool.

Since he was on probation, he wasn't allow to drink any alcohol, let alone drive on a suspended license. It is very interesting that no one has come forward with information to claim that $250,000.00 reward. That is a huge amount of money and the fact that no one, not a friend, neighbor, relative, coworker, parishioner or casual aquaintance even remotely recognize his picture, clothing, stance, or voice is incredible to me. Maybe they got their man already, RL.

Yes the reward is now up to $250,000.

RL has been the #1 SM top pick since the reward was probably $1000.

With computer forensics and technology now a days, everyone attached at the hip with their cell phones/personal devices. Coupled with the latest DNA advances, it's my hope that we are continually and slowly moving towards a time when prolific serial killers will become a thing of the past. MOO

Edit to add: I have often wondered if someone like ted bundy would have been caught much sooner if his crimes took place in today's word......sorry for the off topic

This is dated. Both quotes and link are definitely not the "latest news of the case". The press conference and the gma video are from February.

I do not thnk he had to be an "experienced" killer. If he had a weapon to control the girls, maybe some restraints, he could have corraled them to a more remote location (where they were found) and committed the murders, and then simply walked away to his vehicle or to the road toward the next town. No one was looking for a murderer until Tuesday. He may have been gone by 4pm or earlier.

I'll tell you what, whatever RL told the police that first day when they went to his farm pissed them off. He had to step on someone's shoes! No one is going to get three years for drinking a beer with a previous DUI charge! There are other farms and houses near his and no one was interviewed like he was. There's even a furniture store located near there, no one has reported the police going there to see if someone was missing on a break that I know of! If they ever catch BG you watch and see if RL isn't released from prison on a good behavior or something charge.

I think he may not have known what was going on and thought they were there because of something to do with his probation, and told them a few fibs. I can imagine how angry that would make them considering what was really going on. LE hates to be lied to on a good day and they sure weren't having a good day.

Yes, excellent point. I notice on the bottom of Wikipedia is a list of "Avoidance" and the sensationalism certainly is at the centre.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copycat_crime

I had no idea, some copycat killers even use the script from TV shows. Truly a demented person behind these types of crimes.

On the topic of sensationalism, the real tragedy is we recognize the names or pseudonyms of killers as they go down in history but all too soon the names or details of the victims are forgotten.

The judge highlighted Dr. Kathryn A. Burns, another expert witness, who offered a description of a site-visit to the New Castle Psychiatric Unit inside the state-owned but privately run correctional facility (run by the GEO Group):

…Inmates in all phases of treatment displayed remarkably high levels of psychiatric symptoms; some were frankly psychotic with disorganized and delusional thinking; some displayed mood symptoms—manic as well as depressive symptoms. This degree of pathology was not unexpected given that the MHU is identified as the place providing the highest or most intensive level of care. However, what was surprising was the lack of intensive treatment provided: treatment plans are not adjusted or revised to address on-going or worsening symptoms; medication adjustments are infrequent and some inmates who had inappropriately been taken off of medications by one psychiatrist hadn’t yet been seen by the new doctor even though they had been identified as priority cases; some inmates were receiving no treatment whatsoever; some were held in the program with no improvement or access to property, recreation or out-of-cell time for extended periods of time (years in some instances) without treatment…

Darn, this isn't good at all.

I took a lot of psychology classes in college and I believe most people with addiction issues with drugs and alcohol have mental issues and attempt to "self medicate" which leads to the addiction. I think in order for them to truly rehabilitate an addict their mental issues have to be addressed. I think one of the huge problems in our country is mental illness and (in my opinion) the lack of available treatment- not only is there not enough money, but not even enough facilities. This is not only true of prisons, but every where. We as a society seem to feel like we don't want to truly recognize mental illness, or pay for treatment. I do think mental illness is a driving force behind addiction, crime, inability to function well enough to be a responsible productive adult, ETC...
