This topic has come up on other threads and we have never been able to come up with a case where this was actually done. I believe the consensus was LE would not use lying to the public as a tactic because of the issues of distrust it would cause. I believe one of our verified lawyers, Gitana, wrote about this issue and what she said made a lot of sense. I will see if I can find it.

Apologies if this has already been posted, but the use of DNA profiling was interesting to me at the time, and still is.

Yes, I realize that. I didn't say it was. I am not sure how that got twisted. I am referring to the idea that LE is lying about the witnesses who provided the sketch. Someone said that LE might be lying about the witnesses, that there weren't any. What I said was that I believe that there were and that LE is telling the truth. (And that idea is backed up by some of the witnesses themselves, which can't be discussed on here.)
Can you please direct me to where I would find this info? TIA

Contact your local Sheriff Detective or City Police Detective. Even a large media outlet and ask if there has ever been a case where LE, FBI ect has ever given false or altred information to the public to flush out or plain piss of an UNSUB/Suspect. If your attorney says otherwise they are grossly misinformed.

Not sure if this exactly what you mean, but there was some trickery going in the hunt for BTK. I am not leaning toward that in this case, though.

Why, on a sunny day in February, A+L had to be transported to this place (not so far away) in a hurry so-to-say, searching for someone who would them pick up a rather short time later (DG) before they got permission to go (by Becky)? Why had this excursion been so urgent and important? Certainly it wasn't important enough only to have a nice pic of the bridge which was known to them (A/L) for some time already and nothing irretrievable. If the girls didn't know BG, whom did they know who was also involved?

Hi Germany!

Respectfully I really don’t find it strange. Two 8th graders, in the middle of winter, on their 4th day off school in a row. Getting bored with being inside, doing what teenagers do. It’s sunny and warmer than usual. It’s not unreasonable to think they wanted to go outside, got the idea to go take pictures on the trail and bridge, got excited about the idea and asked to go. Maybe typical “house rules” were they needed a ride wherever they went, so they hurried up and found transportation. I think they were just bored, had an idea that sounded fun so they excitedly jumped on that idea.

I am not getting it either.

We can second guess LE's motives and the things they say but I, for one, am going to believe that a witness actually provided the information for the sketch. We are not allowed to mention things said on SM but, if we were, it would back up the claims that witnesses saw BG that day. I, personally, have no reason to doubt LE on the witness-provided sketch and I also prefer to believe it's true just because it would help in the overall solvability of the case.

I think LE said “witnesses” — and that sketch was made over several weeks.
IIRC the whole paragon discussion started as a way to try and prove that LE does have the US’s DNA.
IMO I think they do have the DNA AND witnesses but DN was not match, and the lack of matching DNA is the reason he was dropped from active consideration.

As someone familiar with the park I would also like to point out that it LOOKS close, on the map, and is as far as the crow flies but it isn't a place that the girls could have easily walked to. We also stayed close to the park (my aunt and uncle lived a few houses down but I didn't know the family) and I never would have walked to it. We always caught a ride.

I totally understand the process of trying to understand a question, comment or theory.
But challenging a opinion that was asked for is challenging my integrity which I fought to make rock solid in many different ways.
Sorry, I'm just wired differently in that aspect.
Thank You.

I don't know exactly what you're referring to, but here at Websleuths, people come and go all day long. A new person to this thread could read one of your posts and have no clue that it's your opinion, unless you say so in every single post. One your posts said, "IMO, of course." But, it's actually NOT a given. You really do need to say so each and every time because not every person reads every single post and follows every "conversation" here.

All my opinion :).

The recorded "down the hill" has another word before it. I can't tell what it is, but it's there. Could it be: get, go, look, let's go, it's? It might not even matter what that word is, but it's bugging me.

You can put it in your settings so you don't need to think about it every time.

That was trickery directed to Rader, not misinformation given to mislead the public.

Oh, sorry! I was reading the posts about this and inferring there was some speculation information was being released from the investigation to the media to confound the suspect, not the public. Although, in the end, it might be hard to do one without the other.

The problem with using your signature is some posters don't see sigs. I didn't realize that at first and thought it was enough. moo

Hi kkdj,

Lots of people heard “go” “get” “g’down”, but according to LE there are only 3 words (down the hill).

This was discussed a lot early on, including a discussion on why they would omit that word, whatever it is. Just seems so weird, still!

Really? Why wouldn't they?

If I understand correctly people using Tapatalk (sp?) don't see them. Plus, people with slow computers can adjust their settings to not view them. moo

why would they omit that word? Possibly because of the wording even before it? I do recall discussion about that word but not anything conclusive.

Makes me think the investigators can confidently say it’s only three words because they have the recording of the full speech from BG Libby recorded, and their investigators excerpted “down the hill.”

It sure did sound like “get down the hill” to me, too. Not sure that matters in the great scheme of things, though. Or does it? A simple “down the hill” without the words “get” or “go” doesn’t necessarily mean he’s directing them to go down a hill, which has been such a key point of the sleuthing here. In my opinion.
