Del Real and Cruz were friends; that trust, the first reason why Marnocha (the Judge) said he sentenced Cruz to 60 years. The second reason, that Cruz continued to deny any involvement while Del Real's family was searching for body for six-weeks.
"He took active steps to hide her body so the crime would go undetectedin what I would call a very callous way," said Marnocha. "He discarded her on the side of the road like trash that says a lot about Mr. Cruz's character in this case."
