Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Granted Police do use confidential informants in the course of their investigations. your insinuation that cases only get solved because of informants is kind of insulting (retired law enforcement). Police work is tedious information given by informants is a tool. Their information must be supported by facts to support a prosecution. As you stated informants are self serving therfore must be vetted. The notion that All cases will be solved and investigators are only as good as the informant is the tail wagging the dog!
You do realize that most terror attacks are prevented due to confidential informants on the inside. And not always by undercover stings.
Also most big drug dealers since the 80s were busted primarily from info giving by ci's.
I doubt the feds or police stumbled across a million dollar seized worth of drugs or anything else without the help or information from informants that gave them a heads up.
So why are you insulted by the suggestion.
Btw. Did i say all cases will be solved with a ci.
Or did i just say that the more ci's the easier things will be to know who's who and when certain things are planned to go down.
