Five people charged in felony neglect case involving Nappanee boy

Kosciusko County court documents reveal a prolonged case of apparent child abuse that Nappanee police were alerted to back in March 2018.

Medical staff said the boy had life-threatening injuries and would have died within 48 hours had he not gotten treatment. Among his many wounds, authorities say parts of the boy's scalp was missing, his septum on his nose had been cut out, his several bones were broken in his arms, he could not raise his hands over his shoulders, his lower lip had been cut deep and was almost healed, his teeth were broken, he had bleeding on the brain, was extremely underweight and had critically low blood labs.

Stacy, Robinette, Springer and Priestley were all arrested and charged with Level 3 felony Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Tillotson was arrested on a charge of Level 6 felony Neglect of a Dependent.

How is it 5 adults participated in this?

My heart breaks for this little guy, how does he overcome this?

All 5 deserve an eye for an eye. Each should suffer the same they inflicted on that little boy.

No potential for rehabilitation here. I wish we could deport criminals like this to Antarctica, with a blanket and a tin mug.

Every single time I ask myself why I clicked on the child abuse thread, yet I keep clicking them. What an unbelievable tragedy - I hope the little one can recover and LE can get to the bottom of who did it. I'll feel equally as sad for the parents if it turns out they were the ones that called LE and had nothing to do with it. I wonder why he was out of their care in the first place?

This is unimaginable to me. I was heartbroken when my newborns had to get their immunizations....tiny little babies, crying, not understanding why there is pain. I cannot fathom intentionally inflicting tortuous pain on a tiny child?! (or on an adult for that matter???) I can't imagine harming any sentient being unless it's to protect my children, myself, or another sentient being. I just can't get my head around this? I looked at these mugshots......WTF? This many people allowed/inflicted torture on a tiny helpless child?

I think our world is getting worse. People are getting more evil. No, it's not the internet reporting it more. It's actually getting worse.

I love animals. My daughters. The good people on Websleuths. My running friends. A few other people and that's it. People are horrible - I'm losing faith in the human race.

Dependent Neglect Trial Set For Tomorrow In Superior Court

A three-day jury trial for Jammy Stacy is scheduled to begin Tuesday in Kosciusko Superior Court I.

Stacy, 43, of Elkhart, is charged with a Level 3 felony for neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury. Stacy is one of the five people who were accused of severely abusing a Nappanee boy who, doctors said, would have died within 48 hours had he not sought medical attention.

Stacy’s co-defendants are Fayette Robinette, 60, of 9462 N. Ind. 19, Etna Green; and Annette Priestley, 60, of White Pigeon, Mich., who are also facing the same charges.

Robinette’s jury trial is set for Oct. 13 and 14 in Kosciusko Superior Court I; and a jury trial has yet to be set for Priestley.

The other two people involved in this case were the boy’s mother, Rune Springer, and stepfather, Travis Tillotson.

Springer, 26, of 9872 E. King Arthur Trail, Cromwell, was sentenced in February for a Level 6 felony neglect of a dependent conviction. She received 2-1/2 years in the Kosciusko County Jail. Springer had accrued 427 days of jail credit and was given time served by Superior Court I Judge David Cates, with the remainder suspended to formal probation. Part of Springer’s plea agreement came with the stipulation that she is mentally ill.

Tillotson was convicted of a Level 6 felony neglect of a dependent and received a sentence of 1-1/2 years in jail, all suspended to probation.

Part of Springer’s and Tillotson’s plea agreements also require them to testify against any co-defendants in the case.

Etna Green’s Robinette Sentenced In Child Neglect Case

Cates sentenced Stacy to 16 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections Aug. 31 for her Level 3 felony conviction of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, after a jury found her guilty.

Stacy has appealed her conviction, and that appeal is pending.

Cates sentenced Robinette to 180 days in the Kosciusko County Jail, the maximum amount punishable for a Class B misdemeanor, but suspended it all to non-reporting informal probation.

So does that leave Etna Green to take the assault charges? Attempted murder maybe? Should be.

Isn't Etna Green the town they live in?
