Did Shawn McClung plead not guilty at his initial hearing?
I'm confused...if he admitted to killing Denise then did he reveal her location as well?

From what I have been able to find he did admit to killing her but her body has not been found yet. I did read that there are movements being made on the case so maybe he has told where she is and they just haven't made it public yet or maybe they are still looking for her it's not real clear. If he admitted to killing her then I would think he would tell where to find her what would he have to gain by keeping her location a secret?

Makes me wonder if some kind of deal is being arranged or else maybe he's going to deny involvement.

He must have been sick by the time they arrested him maybe?

“The department said Shawn McClung died Saturday morning at an Indianapolis hospital. He was arrested in July in connection with Denise Pflum’s death.”
I had read that he was in late stages of some kind of cancer.
Todays news mentions that remains were found two years ago while searching a local nature sanctuary for Denise.
I have not ever heard that those remains were ever confirmed to be hers or if Shawn ever said that they were or if others were involved.....no info.

Now that he’s rotting in H*ll, I hope someone says something. Any little detail may help!

With grains of sand running low in the hourglass of suspect Shawn McClung, perhaps the only person who knows her whereabouts, a reward of $100,000 is now being offered for information leading to the exact location of their daughter, Denise Pflum, in the hope that there might be someone else who knows.

A previous reward was offered for $25,000.

With a larger reward, the family hopes someone will step forward and help close the chapter that has remained bookmarked on the same page since Denise Pflum went missing in March of 1986.

"We are hoping with this additional amount of money, we might be able to obtain the information we have been seeking for 34 years," David Pflum said. "The earlier amount of $25,000 did not garner the information we need to obtain a closure for Judy and I, the family and the community."

The Pflums stated if someone has this information, they need to contact an attorney to seek advice.

Man charged in missing teen's death dies before trial

Pflum's family said in a statement that “we were very disappointed that he didn’t give us the information we wanted but are hopeful that his attorney may be authorized to reveal more information after his death."

The lawyer representing McClung said he was working with the Fayette County prosecutor and sheriff’s department to release more information and evidence from McClung.

Police believe someone else knows what happened to Pflum, and are asking anyone with tips in the case to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department at 765-825-1110.

Her light was so unfairly snuffed out. She had so much to give this world. Think about how few girls there were in 1986 that planned to study microbiology in college. She could have been anything. RIP Denise.

Posted 10/23/2020. Truly hope the person who has claimed the reward can bring peace to Denise’s family.

Justice For Denise Pflum

We no doubt have been remiss in posting updates to this Facebook page. We will submit the following: To begin, we remain grateful for all that follow this page and the sincere comments that have been posted.

Along with police personnel we have spent years focusing on suspects to hopefully get a break in our daughter’s disappearance. That break seemed to take place with the arrest of Shawn McClung and his subsequent confession. It was a great disappointment that he would not tell the Sheriff and his detective where her remains could be found. An attorney representing Shawn had several conversations with the suspect and said some things that gave us hope, that Shawn had told him in his deathbed conversations. That information has not been revealed by Mr. McMillin, his attorney, at this time. We feel confident that Shawn McClung is not the end of this story, for we know from all the pieces to the puzzle that other pieces are yet to be uncovered. We have always known that a person or persons of smaller physical stature than Shawn have been a part of this crime.

A claim was submitted for the reward and information was provided before the deadline. Sheriff Laughlin and Detective Blaes, as well as others, continue to follow leads.

PRESS RELEASE

Due to defense attorney Judson McMillin’s Press Release that was printed in the News Examiner earlier this week, both the Fayette County Prosecutor’s Office and Fayette County Sheriff’s Department believe that the public is due clarification as to the circumstances surrounding the Shawn McClung confession and the Denise Pflum case, generally.

On July 3rd, 2020, Shawn McClung, Denise’s ex-boyfriend, requested that jail staff contact Sheriff Joey Laughlin so that he could speak with him. During a video recorded interview, McClung confessed to the killing of Denise Pflum, while being held on unrelated charges at the Fayette County Jail. It is true that an Immunity Agreement was offered to Shawn McClung for his consideration prior to his confession, but it was provided knowing that Mr. McClung was in failing health and would likely soon pass away. (This was also done with the Pflum family's consent). Knowing he was dying provided the investigators an urgency and duty to provide answers and closure to the Pflum family if Shawn McClung was responsible for her death and/or disappearance. The Immunity Agreement required that Mr. McClung must “not withhold any information” regarding the disappearance of Denise Pflum and also required that he provide information regarding the “movement and/or disposal of her body including, but not limited to, the location of the body.”

At the time of his confession, Mr. McClung did not provide a location of her remains nor information that would help lead to the Sheriff’s Department finding her remains. This requirement was not satisfied by Mr. McClung, which would have rendered any Immunity Agreement void. However, at the time of Mr. McClung’s confession, he also had not signed nor executed the Immunity Agreement that was offered to him. It is for these reasons that Mr. McClung did not receive immunity from the State of Indiana, and charges were eventually filed against Mr. McClung for the death of Denise Pflum.

Mr. Judson McMillin began his representation of Mr. McClung shortly after his confession to Sheriff Joey Laughlin. After consultation with his new client, Mr. McMillin insinuated to the Prosecutor’s Office and Sheriff that more detail would be forthcoming and that it would be shocking. During the remaining time in Mr. McClung’s life, neither the Sheriff’s Department nor Prosecutor’s Office received any official statements from Mr. McMillin. However, after the death of Mr. McClung, Mr. McMillin did provide an audio recording of Mr. McClung recanting his confession. It is the understanding of our offices that Mr. McMillin is now withholding a statement from a potential witness that has also not been turned over to investigators or prosecutors as of this release.

The Fayette County Prosecutor’s Office and Fayette County Sheriff’s Department have worked diligently and tirelessly on the Denise Pflum case and continue to do so. We understand that the community takes great interest in the case and care deeply about finding the answers to Denise’s disappearance. Our top priority is finding the truth and finally allowing the Pflum family to have the answers they have been searching for over 30 years. We continue to be hopeful that we will also be able to find justice for Denise Pflum. If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Denise Pflum, please feel free to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department at 765-825-1110.

Suspect In Denise Pflum cold case maintained innocence on his death bed, attorney urges continued investigation into cold case

Snip
During the approximately twenty-minute conversation between McMillin and McClung, McClung repeatedly denies knowing anything regarding Pflum’s whereabouts, or the circumstances surrounding her alleged death or disappearance. When asked directly by McMillin whether his previous “confession” to Sheriff Laughlin was accurate, McClung told McMillin that it was not. When asked why McClung would confess to something he had no knowledge about, McClung stated it was “because they offered [him] $25,000 and to get out of there with his family.”
