*Bond Review Hearing (@ am CT) - IN - Emma Grace Patricia Sweet (2) (Last seen Nov. 24, 2021, reported missing Nov. 25, 2021; found Nov. 28, 2021 -2 ½ miles downstream from truck). Also Jeremy Sweet, dad & truck found Nov. 26, 2021 in the White River, Columbus, Bartholomew County. *Jeremy W. Sweet (38) arrested (11/28/21) & charged (12/1/21) with neglect of a dependent resulting in death & unlawful possession of syringe.
Bartholomew County deputies responded to the 1700 block of Blessing Road around 6 a.m. Friday, 11/26/21 for a truck that was in the White River. Duck hunters found the truck, which had one person in it. That person was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for hypothermia. Deputies discovered the man — along with his 2-year-old daughter, Emma — were reported missing Thursday, 11/25/21. It's unclear if Emma was in the truck with her dad when duck hunters found it Friday. They were reported as missing on Thursday, but it is unknown if she was in the vehicle at the time of the location by the duck hunters. The vehicle was actually located at a farm lane at the end of Beatty Lane. Both individuals were last seen on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at noon. Sweet is currently out on bond for unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon as well as possession of methamphetamine.
Trial set to begin 5/10/22.
11/26/21 Update: Officers from the CPD SWAT Team, which is comprised of officers from the Columbus Police Dept. & Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at a home in the 700 block of Fairview Drive in Columbus, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Dept. spokesman re “Operation Columbus Day”. The following persons were arrested on the preliminary charges listed below:
— Jeremy W. Sweet, 38, of Columbus: Possession of methamphetamine, possession of a handgun by a serious violent felon. Alexus M. Bush, 21, of Columbus: Maintaining a common nuisance, possession of marijuana. Amanda J Cea, 41, of Columbus: Possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance. Eriberto Sanchez Hernandez, 33, of Columbus: Warrant (dealing methamphetamine), resisting law enforcement. Alex De Arcia, 33, of Columbus: Three counts of dealing methamphetamine, two warrants (false informing and operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a license). Nicholas J. Miller, 21, of Columbus: Visiting a common nuisance. Sweet, who is now in the Columbus Regional Hospital intensive care unit, first told investigators that he had dropped off Emma at “Casey’s” although investigators do not know if that means the convenience stores, or if it is the name of a friend. Indiana State Police are pursuing leads about anyone named “Casey” that could be associated with the Sweet family, pursuing possibilities in Jeffersonville & Jackson County, said Sheriff Matt Myers. The second story Sweet has told investigators was that he had placed Emma on the hood of the truck because she was wet & he took her coat off & then she was swept away in the current of the river, Myers said.
11/28/21 Update: The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has continued the search for two-year-old, Emma Sweet. On Saturday, 11/27/21, at approximately 10:30 a.m., BCSO deputies, Columbus Township Fire, Indiana State Police & DNR divers along with 31 Wrecker recovered the vehicle belonging to Jeremy Sweet, the father of the missing child. When the car was retrieved, it was confirmed that the young girl was not in the vehicle or underneath the car in the water. According to the presser, the dad took Emma out of her car seat & placed her on the hood of the truck then he got back into the truck & fell asleep. However, what is believed to be Emma’s coat was found downstream about a mile from truck. Search resumes Sunday morning, 11/28/21. 11/28/21: Authorities say 2-year-old Emma Sweet was found today in the river about 2 1/2 miles downstream from the truck.
