GUILTY In - Halee Rathgeber, 20, Fatally Shot, Warrick County, 24 April 2017 *arrest*

Could have bled out at the scene?

What I am wondering is how they can be sure she DIED there, if they are not yet sure whether she was shot there. Someone suggested maybe signs of trying to get somewhere after being shot, which makes sense to me. Maybe they haven't yet analyzed the blood spatter to determine if she could have been shot at the scene.

Except that they said she died at the scene. How would they know that unless there was evidence she had been killed at the scene, I wonder?

Not sure, possible there were signs that she crawled/moved from point A to point B. Jmo also not sure of the blood loss of a deceased person versus a person that doesn't die directly from gunshot. Jmo

Please forgive me for this, but I have been thinking about this question all day.
I am wondering if there was a lack of pooling blood, that would indicate she was shot elsewhere, but perhaps some that looked to be coughed (or the like), that would indicate she was breathing while there. Or signs that she was moving on her own for a bit. :(

If at least the lack of pooling blood is what makes them think she wasn't shot there, that gives me hope for some good evidence left behind where ever it was that she was shot.

Liver mortis will show if she died where she fell/lay or died some where else and placed in a different position.

signs she was moving at the scene but not the amount of blood you would expect to find if she was shot there.

signs her heart was still pumping blood at scene but not the amount of blood you would expect to find if she was shot there.

That could make sense if they said it appeared that she was shot elsewhere. But since they said it wasn't yet clear if she had been shot there, I was confused.

Here's a map showing where this article reports shots were fired, compared to where HR's body was found. 15 mile/25 minute drive along a main road.

Thanks Alethea! That's a quick drive, especially if you're in a rush.

I was wondering about Halee's car and belongings. When she had her car stolen in May 2016, she had left it overnight in the parking lot of some sort of social club called The Riverbend. Was she in the habit of having a few too many and leaving her car in a parking lot until the next day? Was she in the habit of meeting someone at a parking lot, locking her car and proceeding to be driven around in someone else's car? Of all the places, why would they leave her to die in a parking lot?

IMOO, I doubt that the 2 incidents are related. Evansville is a city; not a small town, so it wouldn't be surprising that 2 shootings happened the same night, 15 miles apart.

I don't want rumors to start about Halee, either, based upon what may have been posted on a popular gossip site that's banned by WS (for good reason). Anyway, it's the only website I found where anyone said something negative about Halee. The person who started the rumor on the site then admitted s/he didn't know Halee but it was just her opinion based upon (IMO) her/his personal bias. I know it wasn't linked here but want any rumors put to rest while waiting for more facts to emerge in MSM.

Thank you for saying this. I saw those comments earlier, and they were definitely not based on facts in any way. And they certainly don't seem to match up with anything I've read from reputable sources or otherwise (social media).

Sorry...I wasn't aware that websleuths doesn't allow members to discuss potential scenarios in relation to a crime.
Also, if Sunday night into Monday morning Evansville is hearing shots fired. I wonder what it's like on a Friday night? Woops, speculating again....

I wasn't trying to be snarky at all. And I didn't tell anyone how to post. But I think it's important to make sure we keep facts straight as we get through the thread.

This may or may not turn out to be useful. It is a twitter account that tweets out scanner incidents for the Evansville metro area.

Thank you for this! There were a few violent incidents April 23 & 24, including shots being fired into houses.

While Evansville is nowhere close to being a Chicago, Gary or Indianapolis in reference to violent crimes, and IIRC I read years ago they have a relatively low crime rate per capita, being an urban (highly populated) area I would expect a few violent incidents there on a weekend. But, that's JMO.

Sheriff: Everybody is a suspect; Authorities working through tips
Warrick County Sheriff's officials tell us, they have fielded several tips related to this case and are treating each one seriously. Investigators said on Monday, they believed blunt force trauma caused Rathgeber's death, but the autopsy showed she died from a gunshot wound.

Authorities say, they knew her death was suspicious from the beginning. The next step is sorting all the leads that have poured in.

"Following up on what we know," explained Warrick County Sheriff Brett Kruse. "We have lots of persons of interest and until you narrow it down, everybody is a suspect."

I wonder if this is related to the attempted abductions in Bloomington, IN. It's only a couple hours away. MOO

Can you link these please? Tia :)

Sounds like she was beat up AND shot. That's personal. IMO.

(Oh no, just seeing this, going back to catch up...dang it...)

I can't remember if I can embed the victim's tweets or not, but it looks like April 21st was a really bad day for her.

Can you please paraphrase? Tia .
