If it is true that a body was discovered (given the erroneous reporting previously), my thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased.

A source close to the investigation said a body was discovered in the Little Calumet River Monday night in the area where they've been searching for a missing 12-year-old.

Hammond police Lt. Steve Kellogg said police had a heavy presence by the river Monday night because they located something in the river. Kellogg said the Hammond Police Department would release more details at news conference at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the police station.

Body Found In Little Calumet River Near Hotel Where 12-Year-Old Kyrin Carter Went Missing In Hammond, Indiana

A dive team removed a body from the Little Calumet River just 300 feet west of where 12-year-old Kyrin Carer, was last seen at a Best Western Hotel in Hammond, Indiana.

Police said the unidentified body was found, around 8:15 p.m. Monday, by a volunteer kayaker involved in the search for the missing teen.

“We are waiting for the Lake County Coroner’s office to confirm the identity of the body and notify family,” Hammond Police Department confirmed early Tuesday morning.
