Here is another report with the bio father. He says his parents wanted him to sign adoption papers but he refused.

I wouldn't be surprised if the LaGrange county officials knew where they were but kept it hush hush. It wasn't until the step-father asked the state police to investigate he was found. There is a double homicide from 2005 from that county that is unsolved (Terry and Darleen Anderson) and don't even get me started on what a judge from that county did for the woman who killed little Alissa Guernsey. Good 'ol boys club, jmo.

If anyone is interested in the 2 cases I cited above there are threads here at WS on them.

The Andersons are from the same county??? Whoa!

I see a lawsuit coming - mother vs grandparents.

I get the sense that these grandparents wanted a "do over" with raising a son and the boy's parents were in the way of living that fantasy.

I know others may see it differently and that's okay, that is my feel for it :(

Again,, glad this young man enjoyed what seems to have been a loving and happy childhood and he is embarking on a happy life with his own young family. I feel badly for his parents for what they missed out on.

The interview with the bio father linked at twall's above is very touching.

If the natural father did not know all this time, that would mean that the grandparents willingly sacrificed their relationship with their own child in order to spirit away his child. This would seem to beg the question - Why?

Well, as a grandparent, I'm not saying it was right.. but I understand.

I also think LE supported the grandparents in their decision and doubt the mother had any support from LE in finding him.

Looks like a "Good ole Boy" Network to me, that the grandparents were members of and mom.. not so much.

Oh, pleaze.......

"Richard Wayne Landers Sr. told The Associated Press on Sunday he wants to tell his son, Michael Landers, he loves him but doesn't know his number. He says he can't afford to go to Minnesota, where his son was found living with his parents."

Come hello or high water, wouldn't you find a way?

I can't decide if dad has developmental issues like mom or has drug abuse in his history. His affect seems a bit flat but I can't figure out why.

Again. Puzzled as to how grandparents just wrote their son off if that is indeed what they did and if so, why?

If my son disappeared, and I hadn't seen him in 19 yrs and didn't know his phone number, I would beg, plead - anything to get there. Then, I would ask and knock on doors until I found him.

IMO something is definitely strange in the response.

Yep, they sure are. I am from Noble Co. (where the bio father currently lives) which is the county to the south of LaGrange Co. Lived here my whole life.

For parents to abandon their son I would say they had a good reason.IMO Sounds like dad is looking for donations,After 19 years I would walk or hitchhike if I had to.

maybe bio father is waiting for an invitation?? I don't think a reunion between the son and either of his parents is going to happen quickly...it's been many years and I imagine highly emotional, for all...although I do hope that they can reach a point they can all be comfortable sharing in some fashion and at least have a friendship if nothing else.

They might have been right in their own minds but they were wrong in the eyes of the law and should face some sort of punishment. There are courts for a reason (and yes, I know some courts are terrible). Some of this story sounds more like they did it out of spite than out of love.

I'm happy the boy grew up healthy and happy but there had to be a better way to go about it. And I don't think we as a society should condone this.
