GUILTY IN - Ryan Martin, 29, murdered in suspect Talmadge Jasper's home, Lafayette, 23 May 2019

  • #181
It’s believed TJ planned to murder RM. It almost appears as if he was expecting to get arrested.

How a Lafayette murder suspect planned to kill his ex’s boyfriend, according to an affidavit
“When Jasper, 19, went to work the third-shift at Arconic late May 22, he told two women — one of whom is identified in the affidavit as his girlfriend —staying the night at his Pheasant Run Apartment to be gone by 7 a.m. the next morning, according to the affidavit. He told them he would get a ride home from work from Martin.

The women left before 7 a.m., and later that morning, Jasper contacted his girlfriend and said Martin had left the apartment, so she and her friend could come over to his home, according to the affidavit...

......When the women returned, he told them he threw away the couch cushions and would buy new ones, according to the affidavit......

........Police got a search warrant and found Martin's body in Jasper's bedroom closet, along with the blood-stained couch cushions, according to the affidavit....”
Great info MISTYW...The news story above leads me to believe my first impression of "serene, satisfaction" on his booking photo is correct. He is a calculating, skinny weasel! (Again apologies to weasels.") TJ tells his guests to leave, gets RM to give him a ride home from work, kills RM, hides his body in the bedroom closet, covers the body with sofa cushions (f-a-m-i-l-i-a-r), then calls his houseguests and tells them they can NOW COMEBACK! And, oh.... "I'll get some new sofa cushions." If TJ isn't certifiably crazy then he is Crazy-Like-A-Fox. (apologies to foxes, too!)
Please don't be fooled by his "youthful" appearance. Monsters seldom look like monsters.

I don't think this Perp will ever stand trial because he truly does seem to be a looney toon. But aren't most of them...
Guess we'll see.

He would be smart to take a plea.
I am assuming he will get life without parole. Even with previous diagnosis of schizophrenia, especially with it being premeditated. There are murderers in Indiana who don’t get to use mental illness, they just throw you in prison and make sure you get your meds daily.

They fought at work the week before this happened. Not physical, verbal.

Ryan was one of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of calling my friend. The world is a darker place without him in it.

He DOES seem like a looney toon.
I get creepy ted bundy vibes from his mug shot. Maybe not smiley ted bundy but I do not see the “scared little boy” that some people here see. I see someone who is just bummed he got caught.

Oh HANNAH!! You nailed it!! His plan fell apart when he found the keys would not work on the front door because SR probably had some kind of deadbolt on the doors. (Ya know the kind a hotel has so that not even the maid can come in?) I am just imagining this scenario, ok? Those few extra seconds, as he tried to furiously unlock the doors,....gave SR the time to call 911.
Hannah, do you know if he took Ryan's car and left it at Ryan's home? The car had to be taken somewhere, because TJ told police Ryan left after getting a phone call. Another "on the spot lie?"
conjured up by TJ. Btw....It is so nice to hear from Ryan's friends. So thank you for being here.

From what I have gathered, TJ drove Ryans car to Ryan’s house. SR was alerted by the garage door opening, and his opener would most likely be in his car. I assume he opened the garage door and let himself in that way.
Again, these are all assumptions. I haven’t talked to SR about any of it, I don’t know her like I knew him.
I do know that, despite TJ being who he was in relation to Ryan’s girlfriend, AND fighting with him at work, it says a LOT about both of their caliber of character that Ryan even gave him a ride to begin with, but that is just the type of guy Ryan was, and for TJ to take advantage of that. That doesn’t sound like mental illness or even drugs. That sounds cold and calculated. It sounds straight up evil.

bbm Hannah, I totally agree with you on the "straight up evil" description. He is quite calculating. I have also been thinking TJ's call to the two women, who had been in the apartment that morning, asking them to return was still another attempt to "build an alibi." Ie, I was with these 2 women all morning long.... But, SR's call to 911 ended TJ's the timing of his monstrous grand plan.
The rat caught in his own trap...apologies to rats.

I have a VERY hard time believing that TJs current girlfriend knew nothing about what was happening. I would be questioning my boyfriend up and down about why I couldn’t be there just because Ryan was giving him a ride home... unless he said that he was going to talk to him/confront him about the work fight? But you would think if that was the case, she would have told them(LPD) that’s why he told her to leave.

Again, I don’t know what was said, but I know the police in this town would NOT have left that part out had she told them. I personally view her as an accessory. Just seems incredibly fishy to me. How did she not question the missing couch cushions? If it had been a food accident, it would be all over the couch. If something got spilled? Same thing... all over the couch plus on the floor. It’s possible I watch too many true crime shows, but those are quite a few red flags to ignore.

We don’t know what the GF told LE.
She has not been named a POI or arrested. What a nightmare she has found herself in!

ROSES, I so agree with you. The other female must also be in shock, too. I looked at the floor plans of the apartment complex, and the only "closet" for the 1 bedroom unit is in the bedroom. The only other "alcove" with a door are the placement areas for washers & dryers. One would have to ask, is this a relatively new gf and how long she was out of the apartment? I am kind of snoopy (I'm sure you have surmised that by now, lol) and would have been wondering, "What's up with the cushions they were there when I left 2 hours ago!" Maybe he didn't call them till he got back and wouldn't let them go in his bedroom? Guess we learn more as this unfolds. I am hoping these 2 women were absolutely clueless....I don't want their lives to be ruined, too.

Dear Hannahxpear,

Please accept my sincere condolences for the tremendous loss of your friend.

This loss has understandably caused such a wave of grief and deep sorrow for all of the many loved ones in his life.

It was difficult to learn of this horrendous and senseless act that tore such a wonderful man's life away from all who loved him.

My thoughts are with all of you who hold in your hearts the pain and loss of Ryan Martin.

His light will always shine in your hearts, and in time the memories you shared together will bring a smile back to your face.

May you all hold one another close during this unfathomable time.

There’s a good chance it was one or both of the females who provided information to LE that RM was at TJ’s apartment.

While police investigated a missing persons report on Martin, they learned that he had been seen in Jasper's apartment earlier that day, according to the affidavit.”

When I read that the garage door to the house had a bolt on it which prevented T.J. from entering her home, my first thought was that Ryan installed these to keep Skyler safe from T.J.

It certainly sounds like precautions to protect someone that such a caring and compassionate individual, like Ryan, would do.

It is my thought and opinion that this was something that Ryan did which ended up saving a young woman's life - Skyler's life.

That sliding lock gave her enough time and safety to contact the police.

It saved her life.

This is just my opinion.

Dear @Niner,

Thank you for this information.

I am very glad to see that the jury trial is set to begin on October 22, 2019.

Whenever a trial is set in the distant future, I feel such sadness for the families and loved ones that they have such a long wait, still carrying the tremendous pain and suffering from their loss.

Guess he should have thought about that before he murdered someone.
