*Motions Hearing (@ 9am CT) - IN – Ryder Stephen (23 mos.) (Oct. 25, 2018 found unconscious, Elwood; pronounced dead Oct. 29, 2018) – *Alyson Stephen (23/now 26) “mom” arrested (10/26/18) & charged (11/8/18) with Level 1 felony neglect of a dependent resulting in death & charged (5/16/19) with 1st degree murder. Plead not guilty. $35K cash only bond.
Trial set to begin on 8/15/22.

3/7/22 Update: A hearing to set the trial date for Stephen has been continued until 3/21/22. Stephen is facing charges of murder & neglect of a dependent resulting in the death of her 23-month-old son, Ryder. Her dispositional hearing had been set for Monday, March 7. 3/7/22 Update: This matter comes before the Court scheduled for disposition/trial setting. State appears by Deputy Prosecutor Justine Szostak, in person. Defendant appears in the custody of the Madison County Sheriff & by counsel John Reeder, in person. Defendant is sworn & examined. Defendant requests a continuance in this matter as negotiations are ongoing. State does not object. Comes now the Court & GRANTS said request. This matter is rescheduled for 3/28/22 at 9am. If a resolution has not been reached by said date, matter to be set for trial. Defendant is notified in open court & is ordered to appear in person unless otherwise directed by counsel or the Court. Defendant is remanded back into the custody of the Sheriff. Commenced & concluded.
3/28/22 Update: During a Monday court hearing in Madison Circuit Court, Stephen’s attorney, John Reeder, said no plea agreement will be reached in the case. Matter comes before the Court scheduled for disposition/trial setting. State appears by Deputy Prosecutor Alexander Echeverria, in person. Defendant appears in the custody of the Madison County Sheriff & by counsel John Reeder, in person. Defendant is sworn & examined. Defendant requests a jury trial. Judge Angela Warner Sims schedules this matter for jury trial on 8/15/22 at 9am. Final pretrial conference & discovery deadline are scheduled for 6/13/22 at 9am. A hearing on the State's Motion to Amend filed 3/24/22 is scheduled for 4/18/22 at 9am. Defendant is notified in open court & is ordered to appear in person unless otherwise directed by counsel or the Court. Defendant is remanded back into the custody of the Sheriff. 3/29/22: Notification of compliance. State's notice of supplement discovery received & filed. State's witness list and/or Exhibit list filed by State.
*Jacob Stephen Wootton (26/now 29) “step dad” – Plead guilty on 12/20/21. Sentencing hearing on 3/4/22 for level 1 felony neglect, possession charges & being a habitual offender 3/4/22 Update: Sentenced for all charges to 52 years in prison. The state intends to dismiss a charge of murder, according to deputy prosecutor Jesse Miller.
