About five years ago I had an autistic boy in my class who would run off and try to hide when upset.

He was obsessed with Bon Jovi....if any of the staff couldn't find him after he ran off, we would just start singing "Dead or Alive" and he'd come out and start joining us in song.

I'm wondering if Shalom has a strong interest or obsession that might help him be found!!!

That checklist warrants a special thanks. I wish more people knew about autistic children and water. We've seen it so, so many times here...breaks my heart every time.

I work in mental health and work with individuals with autism. I hate these stories!

Project Lifesaver is a great resource but the problem is some people can't tolerate the GPS on their body.

I hope they find this little one!

I live very close to this. One of my BFF's lives in the neighborhood he is missing from. The community has really came together. They are asking everyone to go inside so they can use infrared.

Would Shalom remove his clothes? is he toilet trained? God this is frightening. He may be getting cold or getting bug bites, he'd be hungry too.

Brownsburg Fire Dept stated that the search is being suspended for the night.

The good news: a second search of the pond across from where he was last seen was completed and he was not in there.

There needs to be a review of these types of ponds. If a resident has a swimming pool, there needs to be a fence or a gate but if the city puts in a pond, no fencing, no gate.

Here in Central Indiana there are retention ponds everywhere. I can't even count the number of children who have drowned and quite a few adults also, in the ten years I have lived here. Several drivers and passengers have died when their vehicles have slid off the road or street into a retention pond, as many of them are close to streets.

Everytime an ordinance requiring retention pond fencing has been discussed it was met with opposition. In most neighborhoods residents pay a premium for a lot beside a pond. And the expense is also a factor.

Do the authorities have reason to believe he is in water? I understand children with autism are often drawn to water, and they have asked area residents to look inside various structures on their properties, too, but it seems like they are really focusing on the ponds.

I just wish there was something that could be done overnight, such as flying helicopters, going door-to-door, etc.

This is 15 Miles from where I live. Friends are reporting a massive search is underway with huge police, firefighter and first responder presence.

Local police are asking all area residents to go in their homes at 9:00 pm so they can use an infrared camera to search from helicopters.

In my experience, most autistic children have something that they really enjoy, really like, or perseverate on. I've had students that really like fire trucks, city buses, Lego, Minions, boats and Angry Birds. These items would often calm the kids down or lure them out of hiding.

If I was his mom, I would be walking around with a mega-phone all night playing that music or talking about that "thing" he loves!

Also, if he loves cats/trucks/lights, then I hope they are focused on highway and interstate areas!!!!!
