GUILTY IN - Stephen & Joetta Sells for starving disabled 15yo, Anderson, 2014

  • #21
For the first time, the girl's caretaker spoke publicly in court. She said the teen eats like a starved animal and suffers from separation anxiety. The woman showed pictures of the girl on her first day of school and talked about her progress.

"It's remarkable, it shows that given the proper care this child can thrive, I mean she's at an acceptable weight, she is thriving she is an absolute joy to be around and completely and remarkably different than how she was found in December of 2014 and for that we're very grateful," said Stephanie Wade, Madison County Deputy Prosecutor.

“I’m guilty of not knowing what was going on in my home,” Sells, 54, said in a statement to the Madison Circuit Court Division 6 judge. “I apologize for what happened (to the victim).

“I was in fear of Steve (Sells),” she said. “I had nowhere to turn. Steve was overwhelming and was physically and mentally abusive. I’m still scared of him today.”

Sells said she wants to create a ministry to help children who are lost and afraid.

What in the world?
Disability is a natural part of the human condition. I will never understand someone feeling righteous when treating someone else punitively for what is a manifestation of a disability.

Oh for goodness sakes, sing it Gma.
I can't think of any where she belongs beyond prison.
Her ministry is absurd. I would love to see a grant proposal for her ministry.
