86-year-old man with Alzheimer's disease still missing, believed to be in danger

Family of missing 86-year-old man to search again Friday

Porter County Search and Rescue will arrive at the location at 8:30 a.m. and volunteers should arrive at 9 a.m. to be informed on routes and search plans.

Searchers should wear warm clothing, hiking boots and bright colors because it is hunting season. It was also cautioned that children should not come to the search because of the cold and potentially rugged terrain.

Lee is believed to have left his home in Porter Township on foot about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. The man evaded the house's alarms and locks and slipped out after everyone went to bed.

Volunteers fan out to find missing 86-year old Hebron man suffering from Alzheimer’s

•According to his son, his health steadily worsened over the last five years. This resulted in extra locks and alarms put on doors in the house.

•Mr Lee’s wife heard alarm go off at 1:30 am but stated everything looked OK; she believed he had closed a door in which he opened.
•A son stated he woke up around 3am and noticed the bathroom light on, but didn’t think much of it.
•By 5:30 am, they both noticed Mr Lee was missing.

LE encourages people who live in the immediate area of Zachariah Lee’s home to continue to search their land and scan any home surveillance video they might have for clues.

It is amazing how someone with Alzheimer's can figure out how to bypass alarms and find keys to open locks up, when sometimes they can't remember who their loves ones are or where they live.

Yet, they somehow do it. One of my uncles had it very bad. My poor cousin and her very patient husband, did everything that they could to provide a safe home for him. Yet somehow, my uncle would figure out combinations to locks, find hidden keys to the other locks, and bypass the alarms, even though they changed the code often and made sure to never set it in front of him!

My thoughts are with Zachariah and I hope he's found soon, and my thoughts go out to his family. It is so hard for families with a loved one with Alzheimer's living at home- you can never rest completely.

Unfortunately, he is not only still listed as missing, but he is sadly still missing. In the comments, in a reply to a comment by "RJW," the self-identified youngest daughter of Zachariah, "BLH," gives a reply. If you look at BLH's FB page, she says Zachariah is still missing. Also, the PCSO has posted that they really will update the post if anything changes.

I have never seen so many relatives give comments/replies to a missing post from LE before. This man appears to be very loved, and very missed by his family. I hope he can be found soon, so that he can return to his family.
