Interim discussion regarding questions from the jury and Arias on the stand #79

Her entire defense is built around this tape and her journals. It's so painfully obvious. The jury has to have seen it too. Just take the condensed tape and everything that Travis said on it and look at her stories. Of course she's also been embellishing along the way but that tape is the base.

What really bothers me is that she must have had help with it. Not that she isn't totally qualified herself, but someone must have talked her into it. Someone must have said the Ninja story is not going to fly, what else do you have? A tape? Okay lets go over that. And I really despise people who help defendents make up a "story" for a defense. :furious:

MOO

Don't forget the texts where they conveniently read those that appeared to help defendant!
Passed right over her dirty talk designed to sucker her victim further into her sexual web. But JM was nice enough to bring those to the jury during cross. It was so beautiful to see. Like when he wanted the entire sex tape in not just their cut up Travis only version of it.

That's when she gets furious. And you can see it!

Jodi had an Infinity G35 I believe. Nothing like what I've seen in front of Travis' house...nor would her car be there for crime scene photos.

Did I read correctly that it was a 2008 Infiniti G35? So she bought it likely after she had hooked up with Travis? Those cars started at $32,000. And according to her, she had the optional navigation system as well. She didn't even have a job did she? How on earth did she think she was going to be able to afford it? Not surprising it supposedly got repossessed. Did she still have it at the time of the murder?

YAY!!! Thank you so much! It worked! And I HAVE missed some responses/answers...thank you thank you thank you!:blushing:

I turned it off as soon as whoever made that asked Brian Carr if he was "mentally deficient." There are far better ways to make a point than to personally attack someone like that.

And I'm not alone in thinking he may not be all there, that's even more reason to stay away from nasty comments like that.

I didn't like the way the video started either, but I just fast forwarded through all the initial messages. It really is an informative video. You should give it another try.

My blood boils when I re-watch videos of her answers to the Jury

"I've gotten a little bit better, I've gotten a little stronger"

WHAT...Like she is a patient and the Doc is asking how she is doing with her cancer treatment?

I expect her to say "thank you all for asking"

AHHHH! She really thinks she is the victim here

Yeah. And don't you know it's cuz her 'abuser' is gone now. :furious:

She's healing. :banghead:

The jury will 'make it all better for her. I'm certain of it now!!!

Has there ever been a discussion of the possibility that JA didn't color her hair, but rather wore a wig during the murder trip?

Her hair was found in some blood at the scene. IIRC

Hello My Lovelies! I apologize if this has been covered but yesterday... I felt like Nancy Grance ... sans that terrible hair clip ... BOMBSHELL!!! ... Travis received a message from GOD that Mimi was the one he should marry? ... Followed shortly by the JA discovering that SHE was in fact the "BABYSITTER" who was accompanying him to Cancun??!!! Motive motive motive!! Game... Set .... Match. Not to mention the OTHER BOMBSHELL dropped by and upon questioning by... none other than Kirk Nurmi of the defense ... " Fear was not a ..." Oh yeah...

Buh Bye, Jodi.

I saw it in the afternoon session. It really struck me. Having said that, it is a very familiar look to me. From your comment and other comments, I am not sure if it would stand out as unique to anyone else. It is a look I look for when I am dealing with a child with similar issues because it is my cue that we are going to get somewhere (as far as helping the child because the act has not worked).

Would you be so kind, Mormon Attorney to pinpoint the approximate time you saw this in the afternoon session so we might have an opportunity to learn something?

Why can't I get anyone to answer this?? :tears:

I'm going to try to answer you. Please forgive me if I'm wrong. They were brought up and Nurmi tried to get them admitted. Then I believe they went into a sidebar and when they came back out it wasn't mentioned again. So I'm not sure if they ever got in.

I'm still trying to catch up but I wanted to comment on the Helio phone...

I thought Jodi said that she had recorded other sex tapes? But then I heard her say that it wasn't until she got the Helio from Gus that she was able to record phone conversations? I thought she mentioned something about her old phone did not have the recording feature....:waitasec:

So she just so happens to get a phone from Gus that she can use to record phone conversations. Something just don't seem right....

JMO

I was also wondering how she had insurance on this phone? Can you have insurance on a phone that someone gives you? Did he give it to her or did she buy one? I noticed she stumbled on that during direct or cross can't remember. I was sure she said bought and then back tracked to got from GS.

I think she would have preferred to use cash for the gas can fill-ups for obvious reasons.

At 4 am she finds herself at a gas station with the mini-mart closed and she's forced to use a card. I bet she remembers that. Kind of an oh sh** mo,ent.

There is another gas place across the street, w/ a burger king inside. That was probably closed.

She remembers the incident and knows damn well Juan knows that gas station was closed.

she was afraid of the credit card/receipt ruse being uncovered. She thought she got away with it.

Bad surprises leave her speechless

I think you nailed it! I was wondering about the cash thing and your theory makes the only sense imo

A GREAT amount of work to make that...the grammatical errors are distracting to me. Yes, I'm one of THOSE people. :) I know to others it's minor, but it would be more powerful and credible with those corrections. MOO

Agreed. I can do typos. I can't do bad spelling and poor grammar.
"dourest" does not equal duress. :twocents:

Thanks!

Gonna try it! Maybe then won't feel so bad if I did miss any ones quotes!!o

QUESTION: Does anyone remember where Jodi said she got gas in addition to the receipts we have? Or which day of her testimony that was?

I'm making a chart of her mileage and the amount of gas needed for the legs of her murder trip to see what's possible with 2 gas cans, etc.

Anger and fury toward a Defendant comes from the Defendant disparaging their victim. Not only did they butcher someone and stuff an innocent person in a shower, but then they spend years telling horrible lies about them for the sole purpose of avoiding a death sentence, or avoiding life in prison.

If this person would finally just say, OK i did it, I was angry, he didn't love me, I don't know where this anger came from, I killed him.

Even a teeny tiny bit of remorse for what they did, cry for him and his family not for herself.

We would back off. I speak for myself in that I do find it hard to forge ahead with my fury if someone really breaks down and says "Oh god what have i done to him! what did i do???"

I doubt we will hear that.. Not even as they put the needle in. She will say something like "i pray for Travis soul that he gets help in heaven for his pedophilia problem"

Touche!! As far as I am concerned as long as we adhere to the rules of WS I don't care what is said about her. She slaughtered him, lied about him, lied about everyone and everything to save her sorry 🤬🤬🤬. She is responsible for so much pain for those who knew and loved Travis. Was he an angel...NOPE...but I do believe he had repented and was on a different path. I am a displaced Texan and support the DP 100%. I am among those that feel there may not have been any sex on the day she murdered him (but there probably was) I chose to believe she sneaked into the house after the roomie left for work and that's why he didn't see her car. She probably slithered into his bed and began performing oral sex on him....I doubt many men would not be aroused. But perhaps when he came to his senses he made her stop....they got into a huge argument.......and that could be one of the contributing factors that set her off...that, and he was not taking her to Cancun...or anyplace else ever again. I also have doubts that he had any idea she was coming to Mesa. I detest that she uses 'her faith' as an excuse/reason/or bold faced lie. Every time she says 'Travis passed,' or the 'incident', I could personally wring her neck. My heart aches for her siblings and admire them for their strength. I have no sympathy for her...not one iota and I will jump for joy if/when she gets the DP. So I guess according to some, I am a bad person. But I can assure anyone who might think that, that I sleep very well at night.....no regrets.

Honestly, I was amazed at how he knew exactly what to do with this personality. It is something I have learned as a "therapeutic parent" and was literally delighted that he understood how he needed to handle her. Here are some examples:

1. Non-sense lying is for control. JA has no respect for anyone but herself. She is smarter than anyone. To keep control, she lies even when it does not benefit her. Not only that, but it is a "test" to see if those interacting with her are smart enough to catch it. If they don't catch her, she sees them as worthless and stupid. If they do catch her and hold her accountable, they gain her respect (even though she still feels brighter). JM showed her right at the outset that he could catch her on EVERY SINGLE lie and that he could prove it. He gained her respect - that's why she looked like she enjoyed it. She finally met a worthy opponent, not just another person who feel for her stuff. Without talking bad about Nurmi, he has obviously fallen for her stuff and has not taken her to task. She does not respect him. If you notice, she tests him all the time by controlling their direct and he lets her do it. Even when he tries to give her answers, she won't always take them. Control, even when it doesn't help her. Nurmi has failed her test. Honestly, I believe she has felt "safer" with JM because he earned her respect, as opposed to Nurmi who has not earned her respect and does not have leadership with her. It literally must be scary for someone like her to be in Nurmi's hands when he has failed her tests. (And, just to clarify, as her own attorney, he did not catch the gas can stuff, he failed to see the margins of the magazines - she has gotten the best of him many times on things he could have helped her on but she didn't trust him).

2. Authority. Once JM establishes control - which is essential - he must keep it. Notice that he constantly says to her, "Mam, did I ask you if you....." when she adds to questions. He is jerking the choke chain, letting her know he is still in control and she is out of line. She bulks back at him a few times, but eventually she does submit.

3. Follow through. JM also taught her from the outset that he will never bluff. Lots of attorneys bluff or hint at evidence that may or may not come in. But, every single time she has lied and he has caught her, he has followed it through ALL THE WAY until the bitter end. In every case, she has not gotten out of it without having to face that she was caught. While this irritated some people, especially when the point was useless, it was essential with her personality that he prove his worthiness to her. One of the reasons he was able to crack her was that she now is somewhat afraid of playing the same antics (not that she won't) because she knows he will prove whatever he brings up. As a result, she is giving up much sooner than in the beginning. Notice that in the interviews with Detective Flores, even when he had actual pictures, she would say "That looks like me. How can that be?" Even photo proof didn't stop the lies. Now, JM has shown her that he will prove each and every detail and it takes the fun out of trying to lie and control him.

4. He never got flustered. As a parent, this is one thing we learn right away. To have calm control. The moment we get angry or hostile or snooty, the child has "won" in their war of control. If they can control your emotions, often that is what makes them feel powerful - it often has nothing to do with the actual outcome of events. Controlling you and your emotions is sufficient to make them feel safe and in charge (also unteachable). By remaining calm, even though animated and sometimes aggressive, he never gave her the feeling of control. Even when he had to follow endless stupid rabbit trails that outsiders thought made him look like a fool, he maintained composure and saw it to the bitter end. That is critical.

In sum, I have honestly wondered who trained him and how he had the faith to do that right. It is very hard and I am sure he had to feel stupid chasing those leads all the way to the end. But, he taught her to respect him. He taught her that he had control. And, every time she is out of line, he jerks her chain again and she often submits. I think it has been brilliant and I am just glad the jury could see it.

Just want to say - as a therapeutic parent - I often have to handle lying and violence with the same calm and be willing to calmly go through lies until we get to the truth. BUT, as parents, we are also therapeutic and giving love because our goal is to change the outcome. So, I don't want anyone to read this and think that we, as parents, need to "jerk our child's chain" as JM has done with JA. He is obviously not trying to therapeutically parent -grin! He is going for pure control and I am amazed at how well he has done it.

Extremely well said. What you wrote is exactly what I was thinking when I watched the interaction yesterday.

reminds me of when JM asked her if she thought the blood on her hands was TA's when she 'came to' in the desert. she fired back 'i had injuries too!!!'

:furious:

I think she still had it, but couldn't afford the payments. Which is why she had Travis' BMW. He had arranged for her to pay at least $100 per month, but to pay more when possible...BUT she towed the car on a UHAUL hitch....WITH THE CAR IN FIRST GEAR.:doh: (As a BMW owner, it makes me want to cry. LOL)

So, she basically had 2 cars. One that she completely ruined and one she couldn't afford. Not sure about what year hers was or what condition it was in.

I did see that pivotal fall in JA's face when her house of cards started coming down. For a quick second I felt so bad for her, as a soul. It doesn't feel good to see someone come apart from the inside out, not even JA. I loathe what she did. I am heartbroken for her choices and for the terror she inflicted on TA. But at one time she was a tiny little girl and she broke, for some reason. That doesn't excuse anything. What a waste this all is. A waste of souls, lives, love and happiness. We can never make her feel remorse. That is the frustration of it all. She may never really feel sorry for what she chose to do. She is sad that now her loosely connected world is finally coming to an end. There is just so much sadness to this. I don't think, even on the gurney, with the IV hooked up, she's gonna totally get it or understand why it's happening. She's just going to look blank, feeling lost but coming across strong and rather defiant. What a loss for every single person involved from start to finish.
