INTL - Alessia & Livia Schepp (twins), 6, 30 Jan 2011 - Italy, Switzerland and France

Please know that while I don't post in this thread, or much of anywhere at the moment(very busy, and sad lately), I read every update and am so thankful for them. :)

Me too. This case is a bit hard for me to follow because of the language barrier so I greatly appreciate the updates. :)

Trust me, I read everything, just do not have any salient information to add. I am actually in Italy and have been keeping up in the Italian news but prefer English updates and you are my favorite source!

We are all praying with Irina.

:great:

No problem WG, though yep, sometimes I feel very lonely in this thread ...
I did notice that too. Before it would take two days for the news to appear in an English article, then all of a sudden it started taking only one day, and the latest news appeared on the same day! Not sure if that witness's account re those 2 men talking about Canada or the French Antilles as destinations had anything to do with that.

I too would like to know if Can. LE has been asked to investigate if there are relatives of M's living in Canada. Having been born in Canada doesn't necessarily mean they have family here. He could have been born here at a time his father had been assigned as a diplomatic, or airline, or representative of a company, etc., then when time was up (contract, mission or whatever), they all went back to Europe, and left no family behind. Just a thought. In any case, I'm sure Irina should know about those details.

Watching the news here in Canuckistan it appears that the interest news outlets have is just because of the tenuous link to M. International missing kids do get coverage here, Madeline McCann got a lot of it.

I wonder if Nancy Grace could be persuaded to cover this. Does she do international cases, or just the USA? Given that the twins could be ANYWHERE by now, this really needs international media exposure.

I don't understand why the twins' disappearance is receiving so little media coverage. Compare to Madeleine McCann: British child who disappeared in Portugal. She received a great deal of international coverage (not that it has helped bring her home).

Thanks for the updates, Hazel, you are keeping this thread alive.

I would like to know if there is any concentrated effort in Canada to determine if the girls went there?

The Canadian News outlets have been picking it up, and that leads me to believe perhaps LE is sending it to them.

Has there been determination of relatives or close friends still living in Canada?
Just my own humble opinion, but I think Canada is nothing more than a red herring in this story (I hate to refer to it as a "case" - seems depersonalizing. IMHO) But if the connection to Canada means Cdn media picks up the story, then that's great. The more coverage the better.

I believe the difference is that in this case the father is known to be involved whereas in the McCann case is was thought to be a stranger abduction although many would disagree ;)

I think when there is a stranger element involved it freaks people out more than when it is a parental involvement. The old....it couldn't happen to me (parental) versus....OMG...what if it happened to me (stranger).

I wondered about Nancy Grace myself especially since she has twins, too!!! I'm going to go to CNN and see if there is a way to contact her. Can't hurt!

Just sent this to Nancy Grace through CNN website:

Do you only highlight U.S. cases? I am stationed overseas (for DOD) and there is a case in Switzerland regarding missing twins, Alessia and Livia Schepp. Their father abducted them and later committed suicide. Italy and France are also involved. This case needs the weight of support from Nancy Grace. These girls could be anywhere though the father wrote to his estranged wife that he killed the girls. We pray every day that this is not the case, but if he obtained false ID's and gave them to someone, they could be in the U.S. Help! My fellow websleuthers would welcome any and all ideas to keep this case on the front pages. Thank you for all you do. :) God bless you and all the missing children in the world.

Latest News re:
- Tape Recorder
- GPS microchip

During today's "Quarto Grado" program, Vincenzo Russo (procuratore di Foggia), announced that a few small fragments of the TAPE RECORDER have been found on the rail tracks at the Cerignola Train Station. It was an old model recorder (the kind that uses a mini-cassette, not digital) that Matthias used to carry with him at all times. The tape has not been found, but the search will continue on Monday.
Those fragments have already been sent to the manufacturer in Milano.

Re the GPS's microchip, he mentioned that they have heard from the American experts: they are already working on it, and that in a few days they will receive the results of their findings.

He also reiterated that they have evidence that the twins never arrived in Italy.

Found another article re the tape recorder ... In this article they are saying that the tape recorder transistor has been found

It says it was found last Tuesday, and only today that information has been made public, after the investigators made all possible tests in order to confirm that those fragments were in fact from Matthias tape recorder. Those fragments were found 250 meters away from were Matthias threw himself under the train.

As an aside : LE is also awaiting DNA results on Matthias' body. He was identified by comparing fingerprints found at his home. (some people were speculating that perhaps it was not his body found at Cerignola)

:( I'm afraid it's not good news. Perhaps someone who knows French can translate the following article ... I tried putting the URL address in Google translate, but it's not working for me. What I can understand from the 1st. paragraph is that the Garmin company in the US was not able to retrieve any information from the GPS microchip because it was too damaged, but they are still contacting the company that made the microchip.

Damn, that is not good news at all.

I still have hope that these pecious girls are alive, and the sooner they can be reunited with their mom the better.

Ok, Hazel, here's my best shot with the help of Google translator. :seeya:

Garmin USA was not able to get any information from the GPS chip because it was too damaged. But according to information, the company will still try to contact the company who made this chip, probably located in Asia. "Maybe they will come to learn something," explains Vincenzo Russo at the moment. The prosecutor in charge of Foggia Italian part of the investigation into the disappearance of twins Alessia and Livia seems skeptical. The chip was found at the station at Cerignola (IT) on March 5. A week later on March 12, they found pieces of the recorder that Matthias S. always had with him and he was using as a diary. But microcassette that could help them learn more remained missing. This morning, new research took place to get their hands on it. Rail traffic had been discontinued for a period of time. "Without success, laments the Attorney Russo. But we will resume the search tomorrow, after tomorrow and as long as necessary." As for the pen and the small bag found in the Audi A6 of Matthias S. after his suicide, they are still being analyzed. The prosecutor also explained that there is evidence still coming from all over Italy. "But it does not seem to be serious for the moment," he said.

Also, FYI, I will be in France for three weeks in May -- my eyes will be open, ALWAYS, looking for these babies. They need to be home with their mother. I will be driving all over France and in several little tiny towns from Normandy, to Lyon, to Avignone and back again -- very little time in Paris. Since I have twin granddaughters also, I can talk to anyone with twins without raising suspicion. I'll have my cover photos ready to talk to anyone with two little girls. And my friends will be advised to always be taking pictures as surreptitiously as possible. I pray every day, several times a day, that these baby girls are returned to Irina. I cannot fathom her anguish. Keep this thread alive. Everyone in Europe, keep your eyes open.

Another article from the same website:
http://www.lematin.ch/actu/suisse/11000-francs-dons-retrouver-jumelles-394466

Again, my translation using Google translator:

Irina Lucidi: "Please feed our hopes with your donations.

A total of 11 000 francs in donations have already been made by about 170 people to Swissmissing to fund search days. This organization in Switzerland in collaboration with the police Vaud.

Lucidi Irina and her family have indicated on the website of SwissMissing their thanks from "the bottom of my heart" to all those who wanted to offer a concrete contribution to the search for Alessia and Livia. "We are very touched by the generosity and solidarity that you provide. What you do, not only helps to support research, but also - and mainly - to feed our hopes. Thank you again. "

11000 fr it seems relatively little in terms of some 39,000 people who follow this case closely on the Facebook group Missing Alessia and Livia.

For the record, last March 9, Irina Lucidi, announced the creation of this bank account. To date, slightly more than 800 people have volunteered to participate in searches.

The account details are: 80344000003405970 CH17, Beneficiary: Foundation SwissMissing, SWIFT / BIC code: RAIFCH22. It is also possible to make a donation by sending sms TWINS followed by the amount promised at number 339.

Here's an Italian story on the same search today. Again, although my Italian is better compared to my non-existent French, I used Google translator.

http://www.foggiaweb.it/ultimenotizie/?p=22308

No resolution in the investigation of the disappearance of Alessia and Livia Schepp, the twins swallowed in the dark since last February 3, from when their father, Matthias, a Swiss engineer, took his own life jumping under a train station on track Cerignola.

This morning the search resumed along the rail: Investigators are hunting the recorder, a real voice recorder, on which Matthias recorded his every thought, every feeling.

The search, which lasted an hour, from 9:20 to 10.20, recovered three AA batteries and a set of headphones that could belong to his recorder. The photos of the components will soon be sent to the parent company of Milan for the analysis of the case.

Last week, on these same tracks, investigators found an electronic component, probably the power supply and wires that could be those of the headset or microphone dictaphone.

The agents of mobile Foggia, assisted by volunteers, will resume searching in the coming days with the hope to be able to retrieve the cassette recorder on which Schepp may have left important phrases that could lead investigators to the discovery of two missing Swiss sisters.

Meanwhile, the microchip of the navigation system recovered a few weeks ago did not provide useful information to reconstruct the route taken by Schepp from Switzerland to Cerignola. The chip was sent to Korea where the company that makes that particular component is located. (Tatiana by Bellizzi Teleradioerre)

Bitterly disappointed.
