John Ramsey's stated reason for trying to leave Colorado and fly to Atlanta immediately after JonBenet's body was found, was the security of his family.

However, as pointed out many times, he contradicted this excuse when he ushered Burke past the cops and out of the house at 7:00 AM without police protection and had him driven to the White's house.

The more likely reason for trying to get out of Boulder as quickly as possible was to gain time to get their story straight and temporarily get out from under the jurisdiction of Colorado authorities.

I think if he'd had no way to prove his whereabouts for the day and if LE had started releasing erroneous information making him look culpable and if they'd brought her kids in and grilled them for a few hours trying to get them to say he was an abusiive husband you would have seen a different reaction.

Why would you want to hinder or even delay the investigation into your daughter's murder? 'When you know all leads lead back to you and yours!

'IF' don't count. The FACT is the man was innocent and behaved accordingly.

Most of your arguments are excellent reasons for them to go back to Atlanta eventually. None of them make any sense an hour after finding there child brutally murdered. I am not disputing there desisre to return to Atlanta only the timing.

I agree. When it's someone that close to you, it takes a while for it to sink in that they are actually dead - not coming back.

You don't want to leave them.

That's the very reason families start GATHERING when someone dies, not running away.

The don't gather at the hometown of the family, the gather at the home of the person who has died. They want to be near to the person who has passed away.

I can only speak of my own experience with any sort of authority. I was with and holding my dad when he died. It took a lot longer than expected and as soon as it was over, I couldn't get out of that hospital fast enough. All I knew was I wanted to get away........away where I wouldn't feel what I was feeling. Then I just shot down emotionally for quite awhile, total denial. Perhaps it has something to do with the fight or flight mechanism?

I adored and loved my father with all of my heart and he was a terrific man. I can't explain it.

I had the exact same reaction when my uncle passed away. He was my only uncle he and died in his 40's. I was there at the hospital for the whole dying process and when he was finally gone, I reacted exactly the same way you did with your dad. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. It was like a panic attack.

Sorry, ladies, did not wanna hijack the thread - I think maybe we are getting sidetracked with long suffering relatives and hospitals. Don't get me wrong, I am very sorry for what both of you went through, any death is very painful to deal with and I certainly do not want to trivialise your pain. At 7:00 am JR was most likely at the peak of worry and panic and leaning heavily on other peoples opinions. Maybe he even now looks back and considers letting Burke out of the house at that time a mistake. At this time he considers his daughter kiddnaped and hopefully alive.

At 4 pm he knows his daughter has been murdered and the threat to his family even worse than he could of imagined and is now even in worse mental health, not making the best judgements of his life.

I can certainly understand you guys' wanting to get out of there fast after being with someone who's dying, back to something normal and reassuring.

I think that was the biggest part of JR's motive, but also I have to agree with BC that he knew things were so crazy that they might get arrested or something. Even those of us who defend the family realize they do know more than they, for some reason we will eventually know, can tell us now.

In the Natalee Holloway case, Joran said there's more truth but he didn't feel "READY" to disclose it yet! Surely my tentative "mastermind" wouldn't be also operating in Aruba. Makes you wonder, how Joran can get by with that. The bogeyman did it and officials are afraid of him too? Not saying I believe that, just a thought.

I doubt I'll ever buy that. You don't 'look back' and realise perhaps during a kidnapping you shouldn't let your remaining child out of your sight.

Didn't the police 'illegally' question him? In their panic, I am sure they just assumed that the police would focus on the house and that Burke would be safe and away from prying, pesky li'l cops. But I get off the cover up boat long before that. I am sure that if JR or PR called the police and they were covering up their own murder then they had every intention of letting the police find the body or be their when JR found it.

Not 5 hours later during which time anyone who cared to search the room may have found the body.

I think after 5 hrs and the police had not found the body they were starting to worry they were going to have to stick around for another day pretending to wait for a ransom call and keep up their act until then. Once John took the opportunity to find the body himself they were out of the house in 30 min.

But most RDI think JR's intention was to find JBR with LE around in order to contaminate the crime scene and any evidence that may be on JBR's body. IF so he just could not risk anyone finding JBR but him. He would of found the body as OF was walking in the door at 6 am and carried her upstairs screaming. How could he for one second think that LE would not search the house and find JBR almost right away?

I could go with that theory except it wasn't JR's idea to search the house. It was L.A.'s.

I also can not even imagine a parent letting the other child out of their presence in that type of situation and danger. They can't even make up their mind if they even checked on Burke immediately. I also think it's odd that John didn't call the police himself since he was reading the note. Looks like he would try to tell someone ahead of time about the threat to behead JonBenet if any contact with police happened. He just told Patsy to call the regular police on their home phone even though the note said that they might be monitored, but they got lawyers, friends, and public relations people almost immediately.

Just because some think they did cover up the murder, does not mean we think they were calm about it.
