Great Odin's Beard.

I KNOW butts were collected. That's not REMOTELY what I'm asking.

Do they match the butts collected as evidence for JBR's murder?

I hope they were collected.. I don't know how he would know the brands matched if they were not collected. That would make no sense.

That is not how it reads to me.. It reads to me that the cigarettes he found also matched the ones found in the alley AT THE TIME OF THE INVESTIGATION.

At the time of AMY'S investigation, yes. I'm aware THOSE butts match the ones found outside Amy's house.

What I read says that they match the ones that were collected when JBR was killed.

Could you please copy/paste the quote that states that, I have seriously read that article like eleventy billion times and I don't see it. :floorlaugh:

1. Lou Smit was NEVER paid by the Ramseys.
2. There are many investigators (aside from LS) that believe that IDI is more than likely. Just to name a few: Robert Whitson (BPD), one of the first investigators on the scene; John Douglas (FBI), not "on the Rs' payroll; Trip Demuth (BDA), former deputy DA & lead investigator...

This article points out that Lou Smit worked with an investigator HIRED by the Ramseys. It does not say that Lou Smit got paid by the Ramseys, but even if he just got paid expenses for working with the investigator, he got paid by the Ramseys. JMO

It should also be pointed out that Lou Smit took case materials from the Boulder County DA's office when he resigned. Those materials are what we all seen on national TV when he was doing his "Dog and Pony Show" promoting his intruder theory. Those very case materials, I am sure were given to the Ramseys when Smit went to with the Ramsey investigative team. Smit had no right taking those materials with him when he left. And he certainly had no right sharing them with the public at large and with the prime suspects.

Three months after the killing, the district attorney asked Detective Smith to join the investigation. He initially explored the Boulder Police Department’s theory, that JonBenet’s mother, Patsy Ramsey, was the killer and had written the ransom note she said she had found in her home. The department also believed that JonBenet’s father, John, was protecting Mrs. Ramsey.

Eighteen months after joining the investigation, Detective Smit resigned, accusing the police of pursuing the Ramseys as suspects despite substantial evidence to the contrary.

“The Ramseys did not do it,” he wrote in his resignation letter, dated Sept. 20, 1998. “There is substantial, credible evidence of an intruder and a lack of evidence that the parents are involved.”

For years after his official involvement in the case ended, Detective Smit continued to work to identify the killer, both independently and with a private investigator hired by the Ramseys. He carried a photo of JonBenet in his wallet.

I think SS is reading an entirely different article than you and me. Because I am not seeing it either. I even went and found my glasses and read it about five more times.:blushing:

And I still fail to see the relevance of cigarette butts collected ten months after JonBenet's murder in the alley behind her home. What does that have to do with either crime? I am asking in all seriousness, because I just don't understand it.:scared::scared:

JMO

Let me get this straight. I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm trying to understand the logic.

Cigarette butts found while investigating a crime ten months later = (potential) Proof of intruder
Pineapple-like substance found in intestines and pineapple in a bowl at house = Not proof that JB ate pineapple

If you don't see it that way, that is okay.. That is how it reads to me and that is how I will add it to my evidence collection. It may be discarded at another date but for now, it remains.

When there is an alley behind a home, that is usually where the trash cans are. The butts could have been left by anyone of the men picking up the trash.
I thought I read somewhere that sometimes PR went to the basement to have a smoke.
No - I can't provide a link, but I think it was on the ACR site. Wasn't there a cigarette butt found in the basement?

At the time of AMY'S investigation, yes. I'm aware THOSE butts match the ones found outside Amy's house.
Past tense is used ("were found"), and we know Peterson was not a BPD officer collecting evidence outside the Ramsey home. Cigarette butts were collected per the 12.26.1996 SW affidavit. Peterson "discovered" the parallel (not the butts) b/w the type of cigarettes while he was investigating the Amy case ~10 months later...

So, the answer is no, you aren't willing to help me out. ?

This does not mean anything more than that he believed that The R's did not do this. He started out working for the DA and after being there working hard and being PAID by them, he saw the truth of the evidence and left. I see no proof he was paid by the R's but he was indeed paid by the DA's office.

I'm surprised he stole files and that seems to be acceptable.

So just the brands matched? Doesn't seem all that damning, particularly if they were a popular brand, such as Marlboro. This is a pretty weak connection, IMO.

The brands found during Amy's investigation matched.

I see nothing saying the brands match the butts collected during JBR's investigation. That's what I'm trying to clear up for my own confusion.

I think I figured out where the confusion lies.

Also, that article is so full of misinformation, it's making my head spin.

Weak or not, If the brands match and were found Outside the house there is the inference that someone could have been out there watching or waiting at some point.

Again, Not trying to convince anyone. But this is the IDI thread so we are looking for evidence that proves or suggests an intruder.

Um, I just realized the 'source' for that information regarding the cigarette butts was Pete Peterson.

I can't even begin to understand why the opinion of a hired Rams man is more relevant and believable than what Kolar says.
