Iraq - Saddam Hussein, for crimes against humanity, Halabja, 1988

I'm against execution because of the motivation for the killing. It is a negative motivation. Revenge. Eye for an eye.

You can say the motivation is to prevent further harm but it is not true. The same can be accomplished with LWOP.

When the Dalai Lama starts being the executioner then I will support the death penalty.

They're against the death penalty - period .... or at least their governments are. If you poll the people, you get a somewhat different answer....
I haven't seen a poll, and I'm not saying you are wrong - I just know that since I do write to death row inmates and know at least THAT area pretty well - the majority of people writing to DR inmates come from Europe. Not the ladies that want to marry them or the priests that want to save them - but just the advocates that want to change the system over here. Holidays, the visiting park is FULL of people who have come over from Europe to see their pen pals.

(And some of them smell worse than the inmates!) :-)

I only share this because it surprised me that people in other countries would even care.).

I recall a poll that said that the opinion of the people was nearly (not quite) what it was in America, on the death penalty. But the opponents there are more vigorous, and they don't have a death penalty of their own to campaign against - so our cases have to do. Easier anyway to talk about the problems some other has, then to look to your own, sometimes.
