Charlotte's family last heard from her when she called her mother in October 2012 to say she had broken up with her fiancé of two years and was moving out. Her family reported her missing in May 2013.

In 2015, Charlotte's ex-fiancé, John Miller, was arrested. According to court documents, Miller learning Charlotte had been romantically linked to another man. It's believed he killed her during between October 31 and November 1st. Traces of Charlotte's blood was found in the bathroom of the home she had shared with Miller. Within hours of her murder, he attempted to sell her engagement ring at pawn shops. At around 5:15 a.m. on November 1st, a post appeared on Charlotte's Facebook account, saying "I'm so pissed off with life. I have to go away for a while." A text from her cell phone is sent to her employer saying she will not be coming in. Later that day, a friend received a text from Charlotte's phone which said, "I'm going away for a while". Cell-site analysis show the texts were made in the vicinity of Charlotte's home although, Miller claimed Charlotte had moved to Belfast.

In 2019, Miller was found guilty of murdering Charlotte. Charlotte's body has yet to be found.

''Last year the Department of Justice carried out a public consultation on Charlotte's Law.
Named after missing murder victim Charlotte Murray, the law would assign an additional tariff to a killer's sentence if they failed to reveal the whereabouts of their victim's body.
"Working closely with affected families, we are continuing to develop the detail of proposed recommendations following the consultation, which will be subject to the views of an incoming justice minister," a department spokesperson said.

'Absolutely, completely life is on hold'

It’s been 13 years without answers as to where Charlotte is. Charlotte’s family continues to campaign for a change in the law in murder cases where killers conceal the location of victims' bodies.

Charlotte's Law -
The proposed law outlines a series of measures that it is hoped could encourage killers to volunteer information about where victims' remains are. This includes potential reduced sentences for those who disclose the location of a victims' remains and longer prisoner sentences for those who do not.
