''Gardaí will be able to use facial images and other biometric technologies to investigate serious criminal offences and missing persons cases under new legislation published today.
The Department of Justice has argued the introduction of biometric analysis will save gardaí “thousands of vital work hours” as they will no longer have to spend “months and months trawling through CCTV footage, or footage captured on phones or from passers-by”.
