Three members of a family who were found dead at their home in Drumgowna, County Louth, suffered "violent" deaths, gardaí (Irish police) have said.

They confirmed the victims' names as Louise O'Connor, who was 56, her 54-year-old husband Mark O'Connor and their 27-year-old son, Evan O'Connor.

Supt Andrew Watters told reporters that it was a homicide incident and post-mortem examinations were due to begin on Tuesday.

A man in his 30s has been charged in connection with the deaths, but details of the charge will not be disclosed until he appears in court later on Tuesday.

"A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his 'well-known' parents and brother at their home in Ireland.

Robert O'Connor, 31, of Drumgowna, Louth village, was brought before a special sitting of Drogheda District Court yesterday evening.

His solicitor told the Court
Mr O'Connor has been getting mental health support since he was 22.

Judge Stephanie Coggans remanded him in custody
to appear before her again via video-link next Monday, October 6.

Judge Coggans ordered that a psychiatric assessment be carried out on Mr O'Connor
and granted legal aid of one barrister and one solicitor."

I've heard rumours that he has schizophrenia. This could potentially tie in with him attending mental health services since he was 22, it'd be the correct age for onset of symptoms.. Does anyone know if this is true or not?
