Is Oprah being unfair??

But yet she'll have movie stars on who do violent movies? How is that not promoting violence?
I'm not trying to give the definitive answer to your question but do think people tend to see movies just once, whereas kids listen to the messages perpetuated in rap songs over and over and over.

Just incase this was directed at me I worked with The families affected with Drug and Alcohol addiction in The Projects in NY for over 25 yrs. Still am involved at times with them. So I did my fair share and I saw a whole lot, nor did I say it was up to the rich and famous. Did I say that it was???? So why would you imply that I did?

What I said was that while Oprah Winfrey was off saving The Children in Africa there are children right in her own door step who need saving..... That is what I said. And I was not yelling and yes it was directed at me, or you would not have capitalized the word their.
Furthermore I don't need you sitting in judgement of me as to why I do not like Oprah.
I wasn't judging you and I even put that in my post. Believe me, I don't beat around the bush when I post. I would have said it flat out and in YOUR face if I was. You need to reread my post. I never said you had to like her. I never said YOU weren't doing your part. I don't even know you. I made a statement that EVERYBODY needs to help and I still stand behind that statement. The ONLY comment that was directed to YOU was the "Good lord Tis, she can't help the whole freaking world." It is her choice to do with her money as she sees fit. If she perfers to help those in Africa, rather than the children on her "back door step" so be it. I will say again, if she helps one person, then there is one less needy person in the world. I don't care where they live.

Hi Dea
I thought World Vision was over there too :)
World Vision shows you where your money goes and keeps you updated on your sponsored child and their community.
Some of the money of course has to go to admin but the majority of the money goes to helping people in desperate need.
It cost less than $40 a month, a little more than a dollar a day.....
Yep, they don't waste money. I like that!!! :D

I can't believe some people are so full of hate, so much so they hate people they don't even know and for no particular reason other than they think someone is a snob.

It is truly unbelievable. I've met Oprah and she's a genuine, caring lady - warm, intelligent, and funny. Rumors and innuendo abound when others prosper. I think it reflects poorly on those who spread such unfounded gossip and makes them appear trashy and low class.

Rap songs tend to be worse than movies - a lot worse. X-rated and beyond. Not to mention all the stereotypes in them - not having a rap star who does the gangster rap is a good call by me.

Oprah herself - never watched her, don't know much, I can see hating her or loving her - whatever. But on her show, she can endorse or decline to endorse whatever she likes.

I for one cannot stand rap music and I hope my son ha my taste in music. So far he does :) ...He likes country and he LOVES Lynard Skynard, Sweet Home Alabama he sings, lol....

Well, in Eminem's 8 Mile movie, he sings a version of Sweet Home Alabama.

That's your opinion. It depends on which rap song and which movie.

Oprah herself - never watched her, don't know much, I can see hating her or loving her - whatever. But on her show, she can endorse or decline to endorse whatever she likes.
However, she is highly influential and much of what she says and does on her show influences a lot of people. So, in a sense, who she has on can make or break situations and people.

Like I said, he sang a "version" of that song, which means, yes he did change the words.

Great post. Now that's what I call "informed opinion". You met Oprah and her positive qualities are evident in the meeting. She's the real deal.

Oprah has a right to run her own show..I have seen wrappers on it and in fact, I thot he was on her shw once- puff daddy has been on..queen latifa, etc.

Maybe she doesnt get requests for shows on rappers in general.
Obviously Oprah doesnt care about black people...NOT!

You know that movie "Sweet Home Alabama" with Reese Witherspoon? Well thats where my son heard the song and he loves it, it is s cute....

This is only my opinion. I'll say right up front, I dont like rap music.

I think there's a difference between when an actor plays a role in a violent movie, and a rapper who sings a violent song. Here's the difference... from my perspective, rappers don't just sing those songs, MANY of them LIVE THAT LIFE. You hear about some rapper getting shot in the recording studio every other week, dont you? (I realize that this is an exaggeration)

I mean, how often does a movie actor get shot because they're caught up in some "actor war". Not too often. However, rappers get shot a heck of a lot more, because they're caught up in some west coast/east coast gang war. Think: Tupac, Biggie, etc... There is a lifestyle associated with Rappers. Maybe that's what Oprah is opposed to.

:innocent:

Ooh, where is there a clip?

I remember that show, and wasn't even half listening to Kanye when I noticed MM's face. It was all pinched up and you could just tell he was wishing Kanye would STFU.
