If the Palestinian leaders had declared War to take back the land (settlements), dropped flyers giving warning to civilians, then attacked the Israeli army guarding the land this would be an entirely different conversation/war.

But that is not what happened.
I agree- though not about dropping leaflets as then a surprise attack would be impossible.

The could have benefitted their cause much more by only attacking Israeli military compounds and check points. Meanwhile, Hamas propaganda goes into high gear:

- We attacked IDF compounds that were keeping us cooped up for years.
- We did kill resisting soldiers. We did not kill any civilians. Soldiers who surrendered were made prisoner- and are being well treated with monotonous food in sunless tunnels- but they are alive.
- No, the IDF are not invincible super warriors.

But, instead they go on to a massive terror rampage and murder hundreds of civilians?

Israel supporting family of hostage after Hamas death claim

Noa Marciano is seen in a hostage video circulating on social media

The chief spokesman of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says the hearts of the Israeli military go out to the family of a 19-year-old woman, Noa Marciano, who was kidnapped by Hamas on 7 October.

A video has been circulating on social media in which Marciano identifies herself and says she has been held for four days. This would date the recording to 10 or 11 October.

There is the normal assumption - as with all hostage videos - that the words are not her own and it was recorded under duress.

The footage then cuts to graphic images which appear to show the body of a young woman.

The Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military arm, says Marciano was killed in an Israeli air strike on 9 November.

There has been no confirmation from the Israeli military of her reported death.
IDF chief spokesman Daniel Hagari says they are supporting the Marciano family.
“A representative of the IDF came to the family's house and informed them about the publication of the video," says Hagari.

"Hamas continues to use psychological terror and behaves inhumanely, through stolen videos and photos, as it has done in the past,” the Israeli military spokesman adds.

Is it possible that she's still alive, and her "death" was staged, to put pressure on the IDF to negotiate?

IMO there is no comparison between Israeli gov’t and Hamas.
Israel doesn’t enter homes rape, butcher, incinerate people.
I never said there was. As a side note, the Palestinian people as a whole are not HAMAS.

I agree. I am speaking about Hamas. Not Palestinians.

And IMO Israelis and Palestinians CAN live in peace. It will just take the right leadership.

Another UNRWA staff member has been killed in Gaza due to “strikes” the UN agency for Palestinian refugees has said in its latest update, bringing the total number of UNRWA staff killed in the conflict to 102. At least 27 have been injured.

The UNRWA death toll over the past month was already the highest number of UN aid workers to be killed in a conflict in the history of the UN.

UN workers observed a minute’s silence on Monday for their colleagues killed in Gaza, as we reported earlier.

Family members of Israeli women being held hostage by Hamas are pleading for their immediate return. At a press conference in Tel Aviv on Monday, families begged for the safe return of the hostages, stressing that their relatives are in need of urgent medical care.

Gaza is on the brink of a communication blackout, Palestinian telecommunication minister warns

From CNN's Abeer Salman and Eyad Kourdi

The Gaza Strip is facing an imminent, complete halt of communications and internet services by Thursday, the Palestinian telecommunication minister said Sunday.

The expected interruption is due to the depletion of fuel supplies and is expected to exacerbate the ongoing humanitarian crisis by hindering Palestinians’ ability to reach emergency, relief and rescue services, according to Ishaq Sidr, the minister of telecommunications and information technology.

An outage could prevent Civil Defense and Red Crescent teams from coordinating a response to emergency sites, Sidr said at a news conference from the occupied West Bank.

Any interruption between the crews of these groups on the ground and their centers of communication "may cause the inability to direct these crews to distress sites, which means the loss of many lives, and deliberately depriving our people in Gaza of their right to communicate, especially in light of the displacement and continuous bombing,” Sidr said.

The minister characterized these developments as a “violation of international law and basic human rights.”

Since Friday morning, CNN hasn’t been able to reach Palestinians in northern Gaza via the internet, although regular phone calls have been possible despite frequent disconnections. In southern Gaza, intermittent internet access is still available.

We've had many excellent examples of that shared on here. Case in point, the Nova Festival was organized by an Israeli and a Palestinian, was it not?

FWIW, I feel the hostages  are being cared for (medications, etc). In fact, I'm sure many of them are probably in the "basements" of the hospitals, where there is access to necessities. I think this was anticipated by Hamas. jmo

I agree as well. It will take the right leadership on both sides and tough compromises by both sides. There is no magic wand to make Israel go away. Current Israeli land policies are also simply non sustainable.

But.... if the Catholics and Protestants in northern Ireland can get exhausted and eventually sign a peace treaty, there is hope for Israel / Palestine. In the end, Northern Ireland has alot in common with Israel / Palestine:

Two people with alot of violence between them, one small territory, very different views on what land was / was not "abandoned". Who is /Is not indigenous. And... who did what to whom, first and why. And... who did / did not bring what on themselves.

I don’t think so, but, many of the security force there were. Many paramedics. Many who sacrificed their lives.

But each day diminishes their chance of survival IMO.

That is why I think this deal of 70 hostages to free was good.

Now, I'm afraid these tunnels might become their graves :(

They will be useless for Hamas if terrorists don't get anything for freeing these poor people.

I'm not convinced there are hostages in the tunnels, tbh. I'm thinking they were taken either to the hospital basements or out of Gaza (into Egypt, etc), once the bombing started. Then the tunnels became utilized strictly by Hamas for warfare and communications. jmo

You can blame Hamas for not protecting the people and the land they govern (assuming as some say... Israel is land-grabbing and bullying). If the Hamas leaders spent their time and billions on proper assistance for their people instead of spending on weapons, bombs, grenades AND stopped their preaching and training and instilling hate... just imagine the PEACE everyone keeps yelling and protesting about! But, NOOO years and years of Hamas hate created a land FULL of death and destruction. The pro-P protesters filling city streets around the world calling Hamas "freedom fighters" haven't a real clue what might be accomplished if Hamas was obliterated from the lives of Palestinians... unless of course, these protesters also want to rid the world of all infidels... it makes me wonder if that's REALLY how they think/feel.

I don’t think most pro-P protesters are calling Hamas “freedom fighters”. I think Hamas are condemned for what they did.

You must have missed the interviews posted previously. The voices I've heard only condemn Israel. And, claim those of us who support Israel are not caring nor empathetic. IMO ETA: It's a seriously poor judgement call.

DHS has upgraded the March for Israel to a SEAR 1 threat level event, based on the sheer numbers and members of Congress expected to attend. SEAR 1 requires “significant coordination among federal, state, and local authorities and warrants pre-deployment of federal assets.”

Those of us who do not share borders with Hamas governed land should be thankful for every moment of every day. And, we should support those who DO have to live next door to any Hamas-loving person.
