36 neonatal babies still alive at Al-Shifa, surgeon says, but still no evacuation plan
Erin McLaughlin
TEL AVIV — Despite the lack of resources, 36 babies requiring neonatal care at Al-Shifa hospital are still alive, plastic surgeon Dr. Ahmed El Mokhallalati told NBC News.

The Israeli military said it was working on getting portable incubators to help the infants at Al-Shifa, but El Mokhallalati said he believes they will still need electricity the hospital cannot afford to give.

The babies need evacuation to a place where they can get proper care, but the IDF has not given them permission to move the children out of Gaza City or a plan to do so, he added.

"We didn't receive anything as a proper offer to evacuate the patients yet — the babies yet — no one has offered anything," El Mokhallalati said. "The only beginning of talks were from the Egyptian side saying how many do you have? What are their names?"

So glad those little ones are still with us. I wonder what the holdup is...

Are these babies orphans?
If not, are parents coming too?
My God - what a "welcome" to this world :(

I was also wondering where the parents are. There's been no mention of them that I know of, which is odd, imo.

He just mentions the babies.

“We've been asked to receive 36 newly-born neonates in incubators,” Abdel Ghaffar said, adding that he is working with his team and other officials to get them into Egypt "as soon as possible."

He says he will have 36 ambulances equipped with portable ventilators ready for them at the border.

One baby per ambulance? Wow. I assume medical staff will accompany each infant?

Four of the mom's were dying when they had emergency C-sects. That was the reason they were premature. (So, those four mothers are dead)

That’s how specialised it is and needs to be. That’s why I didn’t think the doctors were exaggerating when they were saying it was not safe to move them. It really wasn’t. I hope they can travel safely and be looked after well, hopefully some of the damage can be undone. :(

Israel has given approval for 24,000 litres of diesel fuel to be used by trucks for UN operations in the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported, citing a humanitarian source.

The fuel is only meant for UN trucks and not for hospitals, according to the source.
