"A breakthrough in the case of Hamas hostages.

'They want to use the situation tactically'.

1700692777910.png

Israel and Hamas agreed on a four-day truce and the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip.

- 'From Israel's perspective, the return of 50 people from captivity is a big success. However, the situation does not aim to completely extinguish the conflict',
says an Israel analyst.

The situation does not aim to completely extinguish the conflict

- 'At this point, the fuel for this conflict is running out' -
says
an Israel analyst from the Institute of International Affairs.
He emphasizes that
'for several weeks this has been the case and people have been talking about the need for a moment of respite, some form of ceasefire.

And he emphasizes that the moment to cease fire is needed to help the civilian population. -

'So that humanitarian and material aid reaches those most in need, and this is practically the entire Gaza Strip at the moment.

- Hamas wants to take advantage of the situation tactically, hence the suspension of Israeli air operations.

Not only combat ones, but also reconnaissance ones.

So this is a moment for Hamas to regroup'.

The expert emphasizes that the important question is how all this will be implemented.

'Will there be any attempts at provocation, attempts to break the agreement, or renegotiate the terms?'
- he enumerates.

'Hostages are a tool of influence - the strongest that Hamas has'

He points out that the provisions of the agreement include a condition that a ceasefire day can be guaranteed for every 10 hostages.

'But it is doubtful that Hamas would decide to release everyone in such a case, extending the war silence for a few weeks',
- he says.

The expert notes that
Israel will strive to defeat Hamas.

'The question is whether they will have enough money and time for this.
Conducting hostilities in the Gaza Strip involves a lot of forces and resources,
not only strictly military ones',
he adds."

PS
The whole post is a quotation of the MSM article.
Just pointing out ;)

US President Joe Biden has said that “under no circumstances will the United States permit the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank, or the besiegement of Gaza, or the redrawing of the borders of Gaza,” in a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the White House said in another statement. It continued:

He [Biden] also affirmed that under no circumstances can Gaza remain a sanctuary for Hamas where they can threaten Israel and Palestinians alike and imperil any pathway to a durable peace.

The President affirmed his commitment to the establishment of a Palestinian state and recognized Egypt’s essential role in setting the conditions for that outcome.

I know nothing about the justice system in operation concerning the Palestinian prisoners held in Jerusalem.

Were they tried in civil courts or were they tried in military courts?

What legal representation was made available to them?

Another question which arises is about equality under the law.

Snip
Dozens of ultra-Orthodox Jews marking the Purim holiday threw stones at police in Jerusalem on Sunday, as tensions persisted between authorities and the deeply-religious community that has been accused of repeatedly flouting coronavirus restrictions.

Police said residents of Jerusalem's mainly ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighbourhood threw stones at officers who had cut down police effigies hanging from power lines.

"Police commissioner Yaakov Shabtai" was written on one effigy.

Some residents shouted "Nazis" at the officers, one AFP reporter said, while others threw liquid-filled bottles as well as rocks.

Ultra-Orthodox Jews, known in Israel as Haredim, have in recent months clashed repeatedly with police enforcing coronavirus restrictions on gatherings.

These guys did more or less what the Palestinians did when protesting (for one I would be perturbed if a bottle containing an unknown liquid was launched in my direction).

IDF take stringent action against Palestinians sometimes shooting them - sometimes arresting them.
What happens to Orthodox Israelis who riot?
Apologies, the link to this post is wrong.
It should read

NETANYAHU SAYS SPY AGENCY WILL ‘ACT AGAINST’ HAMAS LEADERS OVERSEAS

JERUSALEM — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has instructed the country’s Mossad spy agency to track down the leadership of the Hamas militant group living in other countries outside Gaza.

“I have instructed the Mossad to act against the heads of Hamas, wherever they are,” Netanyahu told a news conference.

Most of Hamas’ top leadership lives in exile, primarily in the Gulf state of Qatar and the Lebanese capital of Beirut.

The Mossad has been accused in a series of assassinations overseas of Palestinian militants and Iranian nuclear scientists over the years.

The Shifa Terror Complex under the hospital was Gaza's biggest open secret—now the IDF has blown it wide open, and it's no longer a secret. Tonight's full interview on @BBCNews

I’m eagerly awaiting the BBC to drop the fabled “stiff upper lip” and admit they were WRONG.

WRONG to blame Israel about hospital explosions when it was Hamas who misfired a rocket, WRONG to doubt Israel regarding the tunnels, still WRONG to speculate that the doctors in Shifa were unaware of the tunnels when it was well-known, and when they are seen in Palestinian video chatting with Hamas. No urgency, as we can see.

Did the Gaza doctors gasp in surprise and confusion when they saw the tunnels being uncovered right beneath their feet? Right near their vulnerable patients? Did they race to call authorities and demand Hamas be forced out of their hospital corridors with their weapons? Did they relay to Israel that they, who took an oath to “first do no harm,” saw some hostages right in front of them?

No, they did not.

Had they done something constructive that first day, there would have been so much less destruction all around. But their loyalty is to Hamas.

Why to announce this to the whole world? o_O

I thought such missions are conducted in total secrecy

Good point.

I’m thinking since the Mossad did this with hunting down Nazis, it’s likely a known fact.

Also letting them know, you can run but you can’t hide.

Palestinian just convicted of stabbing her neighbor may be freed in Hamas deal

Dvir Cohen, whose wife Moriah was attacked by Nafoz Hamad in Jerusalem, says that while he’s ‘happy for the families of the hostages,’ he’ll fight to keep her in prison

A Palestinian teenager who was sentenced to 12 years in prison earlier this month for stabbing her Israeli neighbor could be freed in a deal that will see Israel release 150 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for 50 of the roughly 240 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.

Earlier this month, Nafoz Hamad was found guilty of attempted murder and obstruction of justice for stabbing Moriah Cohen in the contentious Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in December 2021.

Re: this deal and being skeptical about Hamas, not trusting them, C says:

“….Hamas has a proven record of not honoring commitments and firing after a ceasefire comes into effect, the last time they did so was in 2014 and they abducted an Israeli officer at the time, so we keep that fresh in mind.”

Assassination has long been a vital tool in Israel’s arsenal. Just as Israel was emerging as a state in 1948, United Nations negotiator Folke Bernadotte was killed by members of the Lehi gang, which included a man who would later become an Israeli prime minister, Yitzhak Shamir.
(Bernadotte was promoting alternatives to the U.N. partition plan that Lehi feared might gain traction.)

Will it be easy for the “good guys” who use assassination as a tool of statecraft to distinguish themselves from “bad guys” who do the same, albeit for different reasons? Perhaps not. Yet, as long as the benefits continue to outweigh the consequences, the practice is almost certain to continue—indeed, it is likely to proliferate.
