Deri says hostage talks were held months ago, appearing to confirm report Hamas duped Israel

Shas party leader Aryeh Deri, a close confidante of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, says Israel just months ago held advanced negotiations with Hamas over a potential hostage swap deal that would have seen Israel free terror convicts in return for two hostages and the bodies of two IDF soldiers who had been held in Gaza.

The comments appear to confirm a report last month by the Kan public broadcaster that Hamas duped Israel by holding fake negotiations with the highest echelons in the Israeli government, all while planning its October 7 mass invasion, in which thousands of terrorists murdered some 1,200 in Israel and kidnapped more than 240.

“We were prepared, a few months ago, with the same [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar — we held negotiations over [the bodies of] Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin and the other two civilians who are there [Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed],” Deri tells the ultra-Orthodox Kol Chai radio station.

“I don’t want to repeat the number and the type of murderers we were willing to release.”

The mother of two Israeli hostages held in Gaza has said she has been informed that her children will not be part of the hostages released on Friday.

Maayan Zin said her daughters, 15-year-old Dafna and 8-year-old Ela Elyakim, were kidnapped by Hamas militants from their father’s house in kibbutz Nir Oz on 7 October.

“I’ve been informed that Dafna and Ela are not on the list of the 13 hostages to be released tomorrow,” Zin posted to social media on Thursday.

This is incredibly difficult for me; I long for their return.

The office of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said it was in contact with the families of the hostages after receiving “a first list of names” of those due to be released. It did not specify who was on it.

Gaza has become a moonscape in war. When the battles stop, many fear it will remain uninhabitable

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s military offensive has turned much of northern Gaza into an uninhabitable moonscape. Whole neighborhoods have been erased. Homes, schools and hospitals have been blasted by airstrikes and scorched by tank fire. Some buildings are still standing, but most are battered shells.

Nearly 1 million Palestinians have fled the north, including its urban center, Gaza City, as ground combat intensified. When the war ends, any relief will quickly be overshadowed by dread as displaced families come to terms with the scale of the calamity and what it means for their future.

Where would they live? Who would eventually run Gaza and pick up the pieces?

[…]

Israel’s bombardment has become one of the most intense air campaigns since World War II, said Emily Tripp, director of Airwars, a London-based conflict monitor. In the seven weeks since Hamas’ unprecedented Oct. 7 attack, Israel unleashed more munitions than the United States did in any given year of its bombing campaign against the Islamic State group — a barrage the U.N describes as the deadliest urban campaign since World War II.

“It will take decades for Gaza to go back to where it was before.”

It remains unclear who will take responsibility for that task. At the recent security summit in Bahrain, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi vowed Arab states would not “come and clean the mess after Israel.”

At least 85 Jewish graves damaged in Belgian cemetery, in antisemitic vandalism

The Belgian city of Charleroi condemns antisemitic vandalism after at least 85 Jewish graves in one of its cemeteries were damaged and Star of David emblems were stolen.

A gravedigger in a cemetery in the Marcinelle neighborhood of the southern city discovered the damage in plots for Jewish tombs yesterday. An investigation has since been opened.

“The place chosen and the theft of many Stars of David leave little doubt about the antisemitic nature of the intentions,” Charleroi mayor Paul Magnette says.

“In the name of the city, I fully condemn these abject acts,” he adds, saying he has asked the city’s administration to notify each family.

Only the cemetery’s Jewish section was affected, suggesting the antisemitic nature of the vandalism.

Just want to point out that confusion can be avoided by using the format below:

[*quote]insert the text you wish to quote here[*/quote]

Remove the little * within the [ ] but leave the words quote and /quote
Why to complicate things?

And making it more yellow hahaha

Just a quotation mark at the beginning and the end should be obvious for anybody.
Plus a link at the bottom :)

Easy, peasy :D
But thanks, I appreciate the effort ;)

They only care about Hamas. Anyone who goes against them results in anything ranging from harsh rebuke to banishment. They're already against the IDF, so it's a waste of hot air. Now they have added a new adversary. They will either intimidate the WHO or isolate the people of Gaza further. (In a way like a cult isolates)
I'm talking about Hamas. Hamas only cares about Hamas. Doesn't care about citizens.

I was replying only to the Hamas, WHO issue.

Didn't notice Haaretz was also in there. (On my phone and didn't see it)

Israeli jets hit Hezbollah rocket launchers in Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces says fighter jets have struck a number of rocket launcher sites in Lebanon, in response to fire directed at northern Israel earlier in the day.

The army says its air strikes destroyed launchers belonging to the Hezbollah terror group used in attacks against Israel in recent days, as well as “military sites” used by the group.

The IDF releases footage showing its strikes.

At least 80 rockets, missiles, and mortars were fired from Lebanon at northern Israel in a series of Hezbollah salvos Thursday that marked one of the terror group’s most wide-ranging attacks since October 7.

Translated from Hebrew by Google
Fighter jets attacked terrorist targets of the Hezbollah terrorist organization in Lebanon a short time ago.As part of the completed attack, the forces attacked and destroyed launch positions from which shots were fired at the territory of the country in recent days and military sites from which the organization's terrorists operated >>

Israel has notified families of the hostages expected to be released tomorrow

[...]

Hirsch said "liaison officers have informed all of those families whose loved ones appear on the list, as well as all of the hostages' families."

The first hostages expected to be released will include members of the same families leaving together, Qatar foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said in a news conference earlier Thursday.

“They will be 13 in number, all women and children, and those hostages who are from the same family will be put together in the same batch,” he said.

A reminder: The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, a group that sprang up in response to the Hamas attack on Israel, lists 201 Israelis believed to be alive and held hostage in Gaza since October 7.

That list of Israeli hostages includes 39 children aged 18 and under; 44 adult women and 89 adult men aged 19 to 64; and 29 people aged 65 and over. The youngest is Kfir Bibas, who is 10 months old; the oldest are Yafa Adar, Shlomo Mansour and Arye Zalmanovich, who are all 85.

The Israel Defense Forces says the estimated total number of hostages — which includes Americans and other foreign nationals — fluctuates with the latest intelligence, but stood at 236 earlier this week.

im grateful for Hamas releasing hostages. But, why are only 50 being released? How are the prisoners worth more than the 50 hostages?

IMO

Because it was the main reason to take Hostages.

To dictate the conditions.
To free the Palestinian prisoners.

This is terrorists' tactics.
Typical tactics of all terror groups.

And some claim not to respond as it is seen as "pandering to terrorists' wishes".

  • Persons accused of offences frequently only see their lawyer for the first time inside a military courtroom.
I find it all terrifying but nothing more so than civilians being subject to interrogation by military in effect with no representation or due process.
My opinion
It' shocking that civilians are interrogated by the military but especially so if they are minors. There definitely needs to be a regime change.

I was shocked to learn Israel has no Constitution or Senate and the PM has been trying to take over the Supreme Court. smh

JMO
In the U.S.A., there is an entire system of checks and balances. In Israel, we have no constitution, no Senate, no federal structure, and no other check on the power of the central government, except one: the Supreme Court.

It might have something to do with their terror training. They are radicalized and indoctrinated.

Just a thought.
