I've seen posts with cheering, jeering Gazans and posts with mad-as-he!! Gazans. I think at this point we have a divided population in Gaza, which could get interesting, come election time...jmo

Hamas is Sunni (sort of Evangelical Protestant). Iran is Shia (sort of Catholic). Thus, Iran is not going to have the same level of control over Hamas as they do Hezbollah (also Shia).

In the end, Hamas might not have been so readily inclined to spare Thais per a possible Iranian request.
I wouldn't try to make a protestant/catholic comparison to the shia/sunni split. They really aren't similar.
But Hamas is largely funded and armed by Iran. PIJ is very much under Iran's thumb. None of which is really in the best interest of the Palestinian people.
But my point was I don't know what Iranian/Thai relations are like, but that video of the sickening atrocity against the Thai citizen by the Palestinian can't be helpful.

Sometimes it's hard to believe the words of Hamas considering they're pedophiles, rapists, and murderers. But hey, you do you.

Please note - the quote I used was from Reuters (quite a respected source internationally) explaining that the information from Israeli media seemed to be mistaken in their claim suggesting that one faction was disallowing humanitarian aid denied the people cut off from food, sanitation, fuel, water, shelter, medicine etc. when it actually was the other.

... the first casualty of war etc... but it should not be as long as independent information exists.

If there is an election. Hamas refused to hold any. Is Fatah, PA going to invade and force elections? Not likely.

Please note that I said "sort of" in making the comparison.

In the end, Sunni Islam is effectively "sola scriptura"- just like evangelical Protestantism. In both religions, the individual believer is the highest religious authority. Neither has a required teaching authority beyond the individual believer. Rather, the Koran / Bible "means what is says and says what it means".

Meanwhile, Shia Islam, like Catholicism, and Orthodoxy has teaching authorities, continuing authoratative (but not scriptural) revelation from saints, church fathers etc and a religious hierarchy. Thus, none of them are sola scriptura.

Aunt says Hamas forced 12-year-old hostage to watch videos of atrocities, aimed gun at him when he cried

The aunt of Eitan Yahalomi, 12, who was released from Gaza captivity last night, tells French TV that terrorists forced him to watch videos of the atrocities they carried out on October 7.

She also says that any time a child in captivity cried “they threatened them with rifles to shut them up.”

Speaking to BFM, Devora Cohen says that “the Hamas terrorists forced him to watch films of the horrors, the kind that no one wants to see, they forced him to watch them.”

She says the Hamas members were “monsters.”

“When he arrived in Gaza, all the residents, everyone, beat him. He is a 12-year-old child,” she says.

[...]
I find it very troubling for the remaining hostages when hearing freed hostages/family members publicly telling the atrocities they experienced in captivity then seeing it reiterated throughout the media worldwide.
Does Netanyahu think this helps in any way?

I really do feel for those that do not support HAMAS or the activities that they engage in. With the type of "leadership" they've had for 16 years, how do they even trust anyone? If they could understand why the blockade happened.. what HAMAS was doing.. what they stand for (eradication of Jews).. It isn't THEM that is the problem, it's HAMAS and it's plans and goals. Those plans and goals are not to see Palestinians succeed.. it's to remove Jews at all costs, including at the expense of Palestinians.

The Islamic Jihad: Some of the abductees released today were held by us This is what the first collaboration with Hamas looks like
Oh good grief what do they want a cookie? Just the perfect time for a photo op here as we work together so we can get these fine innocent Israeli hostages back to safety and secure the release of some of our terrorist buddies from prison in Israel. No worries we will be back to hating each other right after this perfect photo moment. Gotta show the world how united us terrorists are in our desire to destroy.

Abbas also refused to hold presidential elections.
Polling and the popular voice showed he was losing big time to imprisoned Marwan Barghouti.

ADMIN NOTE:

This post lands at random.

Before you accuse WS staff of bias in removing posts, best you not be comparing apples to oranges.

Compare war crimes to war crimes. IOW, rapes conducted by the various military fighting factions under conditions of war are not to be compared to generalized gang violence years prior that can occur in any city or country.

I feel mixed about the releasing of info also.

On one hand, it's good because the truth of what is occurring is not portrayed in the nicey nice videos HAMAS wants us to see of them waving, hand shaking, etc. They have NOT cared for these hostages well and when the "world" just seeing the video of the release it might think oh see they didn't hurt them.

On the other hand, will the other hostages be harmed because these are speaking out? I don't know.. I think they have already been harmed. Some have been murdered, one was released in critical condition, one had surgery immediately after release.. I mean HAMAS had no good intentions with them in the first place. Maybe it'll keep them safer if HAMAS really wants to use them to make deals.

Genuine question here - what would Hamas' situation be in a future election considering they are for many, a proscribed terrorist organisation?

So many of their leadership on the ground in Gaza have been eliminated according to the Israeli army and according to a quote I read sometime today the leadership in exile knew something was afoot but did not know about plans for the 7th (I will locate that); so what happens in an election. A name change?

Edited to add cite
A deadly cascade: how secret Hamas attack orders were passed down at last minute
Plan drawn up by handful of leaders was unknown to men who would carry it out until morning of attacks on Israel a month ago

Hamas and ilk are still holding hostages that are relatives to these people ,people who think they're doing some them some kind of favor by letting the world know how they/released hostage were treated.

There's a time and place for everything and what they're doing is a huge diplomatic no-no.

Hamas knows who's who and all ya need is one crazy pissed off one to take it out on the hostage whose relative spoke to the media.

Both Sunnis and Shiites read the Quran, the sayings of the Prophet. Both believe Prophet Muhammad was the messenger of Allah. And both follow the five tenets of Islam: They fast during Ramadan, pledge to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, practice ritual prayer (which includes five prayers each day), give charity to the poor, and pledge themselves to their faith.
Their prayer rituals are nearly identical, with slight variations:For example, Shiites will stand with their hands at their sides,Sunnis will put their hands on their stomachs. They also both believe in Islamic law but have different applications for it.
Their beliefs over who should have succeeded the Prophet Muhammad is the key theological difference between the two. Sunnis also have a less elaborate religious hierarchy than Shiites have, and the two sects' interpretation of Islam's schools of law is different. Shiites give human beings the exalted status that is given only to prophets in the Quran, often venerating clerics as saints, whereas Sunnis do not.
