Iran warns of ‘far reaching consequences’ if Israel does not halt Gaza campaign

Iran’s mission to the UN repeats its warning that the conflict between Israel and Hamas could widen if Israel continues striking Gaza, seen as a veiled threat to deploy its proxy terror group Hezbollah or take action itself.

Accusing Israel of “war crimes and genocide,” the mission says “the situation could spiral out of control & ricochet far-reaching consequences,” placing the blame on the UN Security Council.

On Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian warned the “Axis of Resistance” could respond to Israeli “crimes,” after a meeting in Lebanon with Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and others.

‘I knew it’s either I hit him or I die’: Re’im rave survivor recounts daring decision

Fleeing music festival near Gaza where 260 were massacred by Hamas on October 7, Michael Silberberg took his chance when he encountered Hamas gunmen on a motorcycle

The two terrorists were just ahead of him, spraying gunfire from their motorcycle at passing cars. One was driving, the 50-year-old man said, and the other sat behind, shooting at any target he saw. At least one wore body armor.

“He didn’t see me,” Michael Silberberg said. So Silberberg made a decision.

He and two friends had already managed to escape the slaughter at the Supernova music festival near Kibbutz Re’im, where hundreds of terrorists from the Palestinian group Hamas had swarmed through crowds, killing at least 260 people and taking an unknown number hostage.

They survived another attack a few minutes later, with two hiding in a roadside air-raid shelter while the other hid outside.

Soon after that, they were driving away in Silberberg’s car, trying to get far from the massacre, when they saw the motorcycle.

“I knew it’s either I hit him or I know I die, or other people die, or somebody will die,” Silberberg said.

So he stepped on the accelerator and slammed into the motorcycle with his four-door sedan.

The shooter, he said, died immediately. The driver survived, but they left him crawling in the street badly injured.

“They were neutralized,” Silberberg said.

The men quickly drove away, with the vehicle’s front end badly dented, the car alarm blaring and smoke billowing from everywhere. They drove like that for 20 minutes until they reached a friend’s house and found safety.

Silberberg, an Israel-born German, said he had long been politically liberal, hoping for a peace that gave Palestinians their own homeland.

“You know: ‘All good. Let’s live all together. Let’s give them the land.'”

But not anymore.

“My mind has changed. I’m sorry — I’m not sorry,” he said, sitting in his seafront Tel Aviv apartment where he and his two friends hunkered down after the attack.

They are going to have a hard time getting the supplementary items there. I believe the hits on the airports were to prevent supplies from Iran from landing. The US Navy is in the sea off the coast. Perhaps part of this strategy is to let them fire off theire key weapons/missiles/mortars, etc to thin the supply and then prevent more supplies from getting into Gaza. AT some point they will run out of rockets I would think.

One of the keys to the current combat is that HAMAS is limited to batteries of ground-based missiles that are truck-based and moved around instead of being stationary.

The Iron Dome defensive system has worked very well. Without it, there would be much more damage in Tel Aviv, the airport and Jerusalem.

Israel really benefits from the lack of anti-aircraft weaponry in the hands of HAMAS. It is critically important to cut of their source of armaments transported and hidden in through tunnels. The Israeli Air Force has been very effective and will need to be in the upcoming invasion, but if HAMAS had anti-aircraft weapons it would be far more dangerous for the pilots and they would have to be more conservative in their strikes.

US sending second aircraft carrier ‘to deter hostile actions against Israel’, Lloyd Austin says

The US defence secretary has confirmed the US is sending a second aircraft carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean, saying it is “to deter hostile actions against Israel or any efforts toward widening this war following Hamas’s attack”.

Lloyd Austin said on Saturday the deployment signalled Washington’s “ironclad commitment to Israel’s security and our resolve to deter any state or non-state actor seeking to escalate this war”, Agence France-Presse reports.

The USS Eisenhower and its affiliated warships will join another carrier group already deployed to the region in the wake of the attack on Israel a week ago and Israel’s ongoing response.

The US has sent munitions to Israel and warned other countries not to escalate the conflict.

Israeli military's response over death of Reuters journalist

The Israeli military has been responding to a Reuters statement on the death of one of his journalists, Issam Abdallah, who was killed on Friday in southern Lebanon.

It says the Israel-Lebanon border was under fire from Lebanese militant group Hezbollah at the time of his death.

According to the Israeli military, Hezbollah fired anti-tank missiles that hit the Israeli border fence. Israeli soldiers then suspected an "infiltration" into Israeli territory and used tank and artillery fire to prevent it, it said.

Some hours later, it received a report that journalists had been injured during the incident. The incident is now under review, it added.

I know what you mean... everything could escalate... it's frightening.

I am hoping IDF is making some headway into (somehow) locating the hostages and eliminating members of Hamas. Then, maybe calling some kind of ceasefire? I don't know if that's possible but I keep hoping for positive actions.

ETA: Hope is difficult when there's sooo much hate.

In the words of IDF Spokesperson Lt. Col. Peter Lerner from one of the videos I posted upstream, a saying in the military is “Hope is not a method.” :(

The journalists should not have been there. They put themselves in a dangerous situation to get footage, expecting that Israel would not perceive a camera pointed at their activities as a threat while bombs are flying.

Journalists should know better than to stand between two warring parties that are lobbing bombs at each other.

This gives me the feeling that Israeli Navy vessels will be participating in a landing attack, also.

At least 12 journalists killed in conflict, group says says

At least 12 journalists have been killed in the conflict since Hamas attacked Israel and Israel launched strikes on Gaza, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

Two others are missing, and eight were injured as of Saturday, the organization said in a statement.

Of the 12 confirmed dead, 10 are Palestinian and one is Israeli, according to the group, known as CPJ. A Beirut-based journalist was killed in Lebanon on Friday in shelling by Israel.

Reuters has previously said that video journalist Issam Abdallah was killed while providing a live signal to broadcasters. Abdallah was killed in Lebanon close to the Israeli border where Hezbollah militants and Israel's military had been trading fire, Reuters reported.

Israel said it would investigate, the news agency reported.

"Journalists are making great sacrifices across the region covering this important conflict. Measures to ensure their safety must be taken by all parties to stop this deadly and heavy toll," Sherif Mansour, CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator, said in the statement.

Israeli forensic teams describe signs of torture, abuse

Multiple cases of rape and torture were found after forensic examination of the bodies.

Military forensic teams in Israel have examined bodies of victims of last week's Hamas attack on communities around the Gaza Strip and found multiple signs of torture, rape, and other atrocities, officers said on Saturday.

Around 1,300 bodies have been brought to an army base in Ramla in central Israel where forensic checks to determine the identity of the dead and the circumstances of their death are carried out by specialist teams.

Around 90% of the military dead have been identified and teams are halfway through identifying civilians, said Rabbi Israel Weiss, former army chief rabbi, one of the officials overseeing the identification of the dead. He said many bodies showed signs of torture as well as rape.

I’m posting this for those who may not know this, but you can go to Snapchat map to Israel and view images that people in the area are posting. So much destruction and sadness, which we know of course. I’m actually surprised people can still post images/short videos.

and the world will be a better place…
I do wish they wouldn't tell us about this until AFTER it happens. Maybe they have a method they think works, but boots on the ground is different in my mind. I want the soldiers going in to be safe and I want it to be a surprise.. ugh

Demonstrators descend on Israel's L.A. consulate to support Palestinians

LOS ANGELES — Hundreds of demonstrators rallied outside Israel’s Consulate General today in support for the plight of Palestinians in Gaza.

Despite a splinter group's attempt to block the nearby 405 freeway, which was thwarted by Los Angeles police, and a single confrontation with a pro-Israel protester, the event was peaceful overall, authorities said.

Demonstrators blocked busy Wilshire Boulevard, which runs from the sea to downtown and passes UCLA and the Westwood Federal Building, for hours this afternoon, but no arrests were reported.

Estee Chandler, a well-known actor who founded the L.A. chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace, said it was important to note that Jewish Americans attended to support the Palestinian state and human rights for the people of Gaza.

“Dehumanization of Palestinians starts at the top from our government officials,” she said. “We need to remind people that Palestinians are human beings our brothers, our sisters, our cousins, our dentists, our friends, our teachers, our neighbors, and we have to love each other and take care of each other.”

Critics of Hamas say its level of violence may have discarded any notion of human civility.

“This is about humanity,” Chandler said. “This is about not letting the worst things that we’ve seen in history that we’ve learned about history happen again before our eyes with the support of our government and the use of our tax dollars.”
