WATCH: Israel is only the first target, warns Hamas commander

Mahmoud al-Zahar: "The entire planet will be under our law, there will be no more Jews or Christian traitors."

THIS is why America and other countries need to sit up and pay attention and understand that he really means this.

The only people allowed in Egypt are dual citizens..for instance US citizens etc.
I know....just not feeling especially optimistic that it won't be chaotic, confusing, and disappointing. Ever hopeful, though.

The IDF continued throughout the day to attack military targets of the terrorist organization Hamas, with an emphasis on the neighborhoods of Jabaliya, Zeytun, al-Furkan and Beit Hanoun. Among the targets attacked, operatives of the terrorist organization were eliminated and military headquarters and dozens of mortar launchers were destroyed. In the evening, a combat helicopter located a building where a number of terrorists were staying, attacked and eliminated them.

Grateful for strict teachers in my youth who assigned memorization, when memorization was out-of-style.

Man's Inhumanity to Man
Many and sharp the numerous ills
Inwoven with our frame.
More pointed still, we make ourselves
Regret, remorse and shame.
And man, whose heaven-erected face
The smiles of love adorn,
Man's inhumanity to man,
Makes countless thousands mourn.

I can't believe those huge pro-Hamas protests. Pro-Palestinian protests happen locally from time to time, but they are usually on a small scale. This is crazy.

That has not yet happened at the Rafah border. The Egyptian Foreign Minister interviewed on CNN said the problem was on the Palestinian side of the border, but as of yet, no one at all has crossed that border and entered Egypt since last Saturday, at the earliest.

For good reason, Egypt is trying mightily to hold the dam back and prevent what will be a loud, desperate, and possibly riotous group of people from attempting to exit Gaza. As of this time, we have not heard that there are any representatives of foreign countries in that area that would be able to facilitate foreigners leaving Egypt, once they had entered.

The border is fairly remote and does not have any easy access to major airports other than the small one 30 miles away which does not seem to normally service commercial flights. It's about 200 miles to the Cairo airport from Rafah and there is no rail service. It's even farther to the other nearest airport, through the Sinai airport of Taba or farther again to Sharm al Sheik.

I think it would take Egypt having to bring in their military to handle the border crowds and processing, and then providing the ability for transport to Cairo, where the representative foreign consultates would have to take over.

Then Egypt is left holding the bag with desperate, impoverish, ill and starving hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

No wonder Egypt is being coy and cautious about their comments

The White House has released readouts of president Joe Biden’s calls with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority’s president Mahmoud Abbas.

On Biden’s call with Netanyahu, the White House said:

President Biden discussed with Prime Minister Netanyahu US coordination with the United Nations, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and others in the region to ensure innocent civilians have access to water, food, and medical care. President Biden affirmed his support for all efforts to protect civilians.
As more information comes to light about Hamas’s brutal atrocities committed over the past week, President Biden reiterated the need for all countries to unequivocally condemn Hamas as a terrorist organization that does not represent the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
On Biden’s call with Abbas, the White House said:

President Biden condemned Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel and reiterated that Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination. President Abbas briefed President Biden on his engagement in the region and his efforts to bring urgently needed humanitarian assistance to Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza. President Biden offered President Abbas and the Palestinian Authority his full support for these important and ongoing efforts.
President Biden discussed with President Abbas US efforts to work with the United Nations, Egypt, Jordan, Israel and others to ensure humanitarian supplies reach civilians in Gaza.

Israel-Hamas war live updates: Gaza hit with more shelling as Israel defends evacuation order (nbcnews.com)

Mother desperate for information after daughters' kidnapping was livestreamed

For a week now, Maayan Zin has been desperate for information about her daughters who were taken hostage from Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

Hamas attackers livestreamed the kidnapping of 8-year-old Ela Elyakim and 15-year-old Dafna Elyakim from the kibbutz Oct. 7th.

A photo of Dafna was later posted online by Hamas.

Ela and Dafna were supposed to have spent the weekend at their mother’s home in Tel Aviv, but went to their father’s in Nahal Oz to take part in a ceremony celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Kibbutz’s founding.

Maayan Zin, 50, learned his daughters had been kidnapped when her sister called and shared the image of Dafna several hours after the kidnapping.

"I thought it must be photoshopped," Zin said.

Only when she saw the video of the kidnapping did the reality start to sink in for Zin.

The video shows the family seated and scared as men armed with semi-automatic weapons walk around their house and ask the adults for their IDs while speaking in English.

In addition to the girls, their father Noam Elyakim, 48, his girlfriend Dikla Arava Eliaz, 50, and Eliaz’ 17-year-old son, Tomer, were kidnapped.

The video appears to show Noam suffered a gunshot wound to his leg.

I wonder if there is more than one Zeytun? The Zeytun I'm familiar with is near Aleppo.

Israeli strikes slowing as Saturday turns to Sunday near Gaza border

SDEROT, Israel — It's just past midnight on the border with Gaza, and the streets remain quiet, save the constant hum of an Israeli drone hovering above.

The tempo of outgoing Israeli strikes has slowed in the last several hours.

In the darkness of night, the skyline of Gaza City is black; only a few lights can be seen flickering in the distance.

I firmly believe the strikes will not start until US Ambassador Bilken has spoken to Egyptian authorities to ask for their assistance in hostage release and imploring them to find a way to open the Rafah border. And has left Egyptian airspace.

Egypt's cooperation is clearly necessary. It would add huge more layers of complexity if Israel was invading northern Gaza while Egypt may be in the process of setting up opening the Rafah border crossing and dealing possibly half a million people trying to leave. It does not harm Israeli positions by delaying a few days more and possibly allowing humane treatment of civilians so they are no in danger of being held responsible for "war crimes".

Aid convoys continue to arrive in Egypt in preparation to enter Gaza

Airplanes carrying aid from Jordan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the World Health Organization and the Red Cross have arrived at Egypt's El-Arish Airport, according to footage aired on state television.

The Egyptian Red Crescent's warehouses are full of humanitarian aid, an official told Egypt's government-run Extra News TV on Saturday. The official added the El-Arish stadium has been prepared to accommodate more aid.

A third Turkish aid plane arrived at the airport Saturday carrying medical supplies and food, an Egyptian Red Crescent official said. The resources are scheduled to be stored at the stadium in preparation for its entry into the Rafah land crossing.

An Emirati plane carrying medical supplies arrived at El-Arish Airport on Friday.

Jordan was the first to send an aid plane carrying pharmaceutical supplies Thursday.

Canada’s foreign minister has confirmed death of fourth Canadian in last week’s attacks by Hamas

Twenty-two-year-old Shir Georgy went missing following Hamas’s attacks at a music festival near Kibbutz Re’im last Saturday. Her aunt, Michal Bouganim, mourned her niece’s death on Instagram, saying: “It is with great sadness and a broken heart that we announce the murder of our beloved Shir.”

Reuters reported Canadian foreign minister Melanie Joly said that Georgy’s death brings the total death toll of Canadians to four, with three still missing.

Joly also said that she is working on evacuating Canadians in Gaza through the Rafah border crossing into Egypt and out of the West Bank via bus and into Jordan.

“Canada has an agreement with Israel to get Canadians out of Gaza … Things are very volatile, obviously, in Gaza, where it is one of the worst places on earth right now to be living in,” Reuters reported Joly said in a phone call to reporters from Jordan.

Iran warns of “far-reaching consequences” if Israel doesn’t stop attacks on Gaza

Iran warned of “far-reaching consequences” if Israel does not stop its attacks on Gaza, the Iranian Mission to the United Nations said on social media Saturday.

“If the Israeli apartheid’s war crimes and genocide are not halted immediately, the situation could spiral out of control & ricochet far-reaching consequences,” Iran’s Mission to the UN said.

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Abdollahian voiced a similar sentiment in a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

“The fact that the Zionist regime martyrs hundreds of Palestinians every day cannot be tolerated, and this war crime, as well as the human blockade of Gaza and the cutoff of water, food, and medicine, must be ended,” Abdollahian said, according to a readout of the meeting.

“If the Zionist regime's crimes against the Palestinian people and citizens continue, no one can guarantee that the situation in the region will remain the same,” Abdollahian said.

Iran warns the situation could 'spiral out of control'

Iran's mission to the United Nation says that "if Israel's war crimes and genocide are not halted immediately, the situation could spiral out of control and ricochet far-reaching consequences".

In a post on X, the mission wrote that if that happens, "the responsibility lies with the UN, the Security Council and the states steering the Council toward a dead end".

Jordan was the first to send an aid plane carrying pharmaceutical supplies Thursday.

I think this is the kind of cooperation Egypt wants to be producing: Shipping and storage of humanitarian supplies to be sent into Gaza and used there.

I also think they will do just about anything to avoid having to accept Gaza refugees onto their soil, ending up with a chronic refugee camp of hundreds of thousands of exiles, just as Turkey has ended up with hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.

And I don't think Iran cares at all about the civilians in Gaza, or what their fate is, or who has to take care of the problem.
