Zaka: The volunteers giving dignity to Israel's dead

Warning: This article contains details that some readers may find distressing

Behind the tall, barbed-wire gates of a military base in central Israel last week, away from the public eye, soldiers, police officers, and forensics experts were working diligently on a task that was almost impossible to imagine from the outside - the mass identification of the victims of Hamas's murderous attack.

[…]

Zaka's job is to […] so that they can be buried in accordance with Jewish religious law.

[…]

Its members are almost all ultra-orthodox Jews, and they are all volunteers.

I'm a bit confused. Are you guys referring to one particular protest, or the protests in general?
So, Hamas sent out this "Friday is a Day of Rage for Jihad" message. However, since last Sunday, there have been many pro-Palestinian protests. What I found odd was usually pro-Palestinian protests are organized when something has happened to Palestinians or there are possible votes in Congress that are not considered to be in their best interest. (etc..) This is the first time I've seen them in response to a terror attack by Hamas. (I know, I know..we don't want civilians hurt by the Israelis, but the protests aren't likely to be very productive at this time) It seems quite tone deaf.

They are pro Palestine.
Palestine for all nations living there.

People want PEACE!!!!!!

Is it too MUCH to ask and hope for???
Unfortunately, Hamas doesn't care about peace. Killing and sacrificing are normalized. As long as they believe that Jews need to be erased from all of Israel, and Palestinians have to, or choose to, tolerate or embrace them, there can be no peace. Protesters think that Israel can do certain things and that Hamas would then change their view of wanting to kill Jews?

Israel-Hamas war live updates: Israel says it’s preparing Gaza ground attack (nbcnews.com)

Border buzzing with drones and fighter jets

NEAR THE ISRAEL-GAZA BORDER — It’s a quarter to 2 a.m. in Israel. Along the northern section of the Israel-Gaza border, you can hear the buzz of drones and fighter jets overhead.

Tanks on flatbeds have driven along the road bedside us — headed in the direction of Gaza.

We haven’t seen rocket fire here in a few hours, but we are hearing artillery. In the last 45 minutes, we’ve heard the booms of artillery at least nine times.

  • It's been a week since Hamas attacked Israel, killing 1,300 people and taking hostages
  • More than 2,200 people have been killed in Israel's bombing campaign of the Gaza Strip launched in response, according to Palestinian figures
  • Israel has told some 1.1 million Palestinians living in north Gaza to evacuate to the south of the strip
  • The evacuation order was given as the Israeli military plans a ground offensive into Gaza by land, air and sea, it says in a statement - but gives no timings or specifics

And yet,
there is no other way than Peace Talks and Compromise on BOTH sides.

If not,
all living there will eventually kill one another to the last person.

And instead of 'Holy Land',
the name will be 'Cursed Land'.

This case is too much for me.
My heart hurts reading all these reports.
And I live far away from this Land.

I simply cannot imagine what ALL people living there are going through now.

Please, please
Give PEACE a chance.

Israel-Hamas war live: rockets fired from Syria as Israel prepares ground invasion of Gaza (theguardian.com)

4m ago00.11 BST

Summary

It is slightly past 2am in Gaza where thousands of Palestinians have been evacuating towards the southern part of the Gaza Strip as Israel prepares for a ground invasion. Here is where things stand:
  • The World Health Organization has issued a statement condemning Israel’s orders of the evacuation of 22 hospitals in northern Gaza that are treating more than 2,000 inpatients. In a statement on Saturday, the WHO warned that the “forced evacuations of patients and health workers will further worsen the current humanitarian and public health catastrophe”.
  • Iran has warned of “far-reaching consequences” if Israel’s “war crimes and genocide” are not stopped immediately. On Saturday, the permanent mission of Iran to the United Nations added: “The responsibility of which lies with the UN, the Security Council & the states steering the Council toward a dead end.”
  • Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian appears to have met with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Doha, Qatar, this evening. The exact meeting details have yet to be disclosed.
  • US president Joe Biden spoke separately with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday. Netanyahu’s office said that the prime minister told Biden that “unity and determination” are needed to achieve Israel’s goal of defeating Hamas. Meanwhile, Abbas’s office said that the president told Biden that he rejects the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza as thousands flee amid deadly Israeli airstrikes.
  • Israel’s military said on Saturday that it has fired back at Syrian areas from which two rockets were launched towards Israeli territory and fell into open areas. The military also said it fired an interceptor towards a “suspicious target” that crossed into Israeli territory from Lebanon but did not provide any additional details.
  • The European Council chief has called on a virtual summit with EU leaders next week to discuss the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. “It is of utmost importance that the European Council, in line with the treaties and our values, sets our common position and establishes a clear unified course of action that reflects the complexity of the unfolding situation,” said Charles Michel, president of the European Council.
  • Médicins Sans Frontieres has called on the ‘Israeli authorities to ‘show humanity’. In a statement issued on Saturday, MSF condemned Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip “without restraint for a week”.
  • Israel has admitted to intelligence ‘mistakes’ in failing to predict Hamas’s attacks last weekend. “It’s my mistake, and it reflects the mistakes of all those making [intelligence] assessments,” Israel’s national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi said at a press briefing.
  • The Israeli military announced on Saturday that its forces are preparing to implement a wide range of operational offensive plans. It also announced that its forces have been deployed throughout Israel and is preparing for the next stages “with an emphasis on significant ground operations”.
  • Lebanon said on Saturday that Israel had launched a deadly strike on Friday that killed a Reuters journalist and injured six other journalists from Agence France-Presse, Reuters and Al Jazeera. The Lebanese army said in a statement that “the Israeli enemy fired a rocket shell that hit a civilian car belonging to a media team, leading to the death of Issam Abdallah”.
  • The UN’s under-secretary general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator, Martin Griffiths, has warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is “fast becoming untenable”. In a statement issued on Saturday, Griffiths said: “Even wars have rules, and these rules must be upheld, at all times, and by all sides. Civilians and civilian infrastructure, including humanitarian workers and assets, must be protected.”
  • The European Commission announced this afternoon that it will triple humanitarian aid for Gaza. The move comes after the EU faced criticism for conflicting messaging from its senior leadership. The commission’s president, Ursula von der Leyen, spoke with the UN secretary general, António Guterres, today, the commission said.Israel-Hamas war live: Syria says Aleppo airport hit as Israel prepares ground invasion of Gaza

An emotional goodbye after Florida family’s son goes to Israel to fight

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Nata Nagli was in the family’s South Florida home last week when she woke her 22-year-old son David and told him about the Hamas terror attack on her native Israel.

David was soon on his feet, she said, telling her, “Mom, I know you’re going to start crying now,” which she did.

“But there’s nothing that you can tell me that’s going to stop me from going, I need to join my unit,” Nagli told NBC News.

David joined the Israel Defense Forces when he was 18 and is in the reserves. Israel has called up more than 300,000 reservists since Hamas launched its terror attacks. Israel’s prime minister declared war on Hamas and vowed to crush the group.

David’s parents drove him to the airport last Saturday, the same day that he and the world learned of the Hamas attacks

A long time ago, David gave his mother a box with a bug inside that says, “Love Bug.” Nagli gave her son that box back at the airport as they said goodbye.

“When he hugged me goodbye, he said, 'Mom, I promise I’m going to bring the love bug back,'" she said.

Maybe this is old news but I'm posting

Iran sent a message to Israel on Saturday stressing that it does not want further escalation in the Hamas-Israel war, but that it will have to intervene if the Israeli operation in Gaza continues, two diplomatic sources with knowledge of the situation told Axios.

https://www.axios.com/2023/10/14/iran-warning-israel-hezbollah-hamas-war-gaza

Hmmm. That could be really bad. Like really bad. Like this is not already really, really bad (understatement), but you know what I mean.

I’ve had my eye on the Iran situations for a while.

Um, what exactly would Iran do??

ASHDOD, Israel — Israel’s military is conducting an all-out hunt for Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza and mastermind of the worst attack in the Israel's history.

The IDF says he's their Osama bin Ladin.

“When they chose to go full front against Israel, they signed their own death warrants," IDF Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said.

Unfortunately, religious wars have been happening since the beginning of time. Hamas is a horrible, terrorist organization which is why Israel has declared war on them.

How much support does Hamas have among Palestinians?

Following the 2021 Israeli-Gaza conflict, an opinion poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in the West Bank and Gaza Strip showed a dramatic surge in support for Hamas.

In the poll, 53% of the 1,200 Palestinians surveyed said they believed Hamas is "most deserving of representing and leading the Palestinian people." By contrast, just 14% said the same of Fatah.
