US orders its non-emergency staff to leave Baghdad embassy

The United States says it has ordered non-emergency staff and eligible family members to leave its embassy in Baghdad and its consulate in Arbil, Iraq.

The directive, which was announced today but issued Friday, was given “due to increased security threats against US personnel and interests,” the State Department says.

The department also updates its travel advisory to a level four, the highest possible, warning US citizens not to travel to Iraq.

Hamas and Israeli troops clash inside Gaza

Hamas fighters clashed with Israeli troops inside Gaza, the Palestinian group’s militant Al-Qassam Brigades said Sunday, in what appears to be one of the first skirmishes between the two sides on the ground inside the strip since war broke out on October 7.

Hamas said its fighters destroyed two Israeli military bulldozers and a tank in an ambush, forcing Israeli troops to retreat into Israel without their vehicles.

“The soldiers of the Zionist force that fell into the Khan Younis ambush left their vehicles and fled east of the fence on foot," the Al-Qassam Brigades said on social media.

The Israel Defense Forces said only that "shots were fired at IDF soldiers operating west of the Gaza Strip security fence, in the area of Kissufim."

"An IDF tank struck the terrorist cell who fired at the soldiers," the IDF added.

Kibbutz Kissufim, in Israel, is east of Khan Younis, in Gaza.

The IDF confirmed to CNN by phone that its troops had been operating inside Gaza during the incident.

It is not the first time the IDF has said it operated inside Gaza since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. On October 13, the IDF said it had carried out raids inside Gaza in the previous 24 hours, but it did not say clashes had taken place.

If you're not watching this, you should be!

The testimonies of the family members are heartbreaking.

They are now reading the names of the hostages. Age 3, Age 12... View attachment 455142

They will be singing the Israeli national anthem at the end.

I'm an hour into it and the goosebumps haven't stopped.

BRING THEM HOME!

I’ve been watching.

Beautiful and very emotional.

Thank you, England.

I’ve heard the Hatikvah that was sung by survivors of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, sung five days after their liberation.

Am Yisrael Chai! The Jewish people live!

10 US senators visit Israel to express support: ‘Destroying Hamas is non-negotiable’

Leading a bipartisan US Senate delegation of five Republicans and five Democrats, South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham says that “destroying Hamas is non-negotiable.”

“How do we do it? Let’s talk,” says Graham in Tel Aviv. “What is winning? For the terrorist organization to be destroyed, for the people of Israel to have the sense of peace they’ve lost, for the Palestinian people to have hope they don’t have, and for the Arabs and Israelis to end a conflict that would make the world better.”

[...]

The group met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman yesterday and urged him to offer funds to sustain the Gazan people until Hamas is destroyed. They also met families of hostages taken by Hamas. Graham says he believes that Iran, through Hamas, tried to stop Israel-Saudi peace: “My goal is for them to fail.”

[...]

Graham also has stark words of warning for Tehran: “We’re here today to tell Iran, we’re watching you,” says Graham. “If this war grows, it’s coming to your backyard. There won’t be two fronts, there will be three.”

“If these innocent hostages get slaughtered, I hold you, Iran, accountable because you could stop it if you chose to. The idea this happened without Iranian involvement is laughable,” adds Graham. “For Iran to fail, the Middle East needs to come together, marching toward the light, and away from the darkness.”

[...]

The group also includes Susan Collins (R-Maine), Chris Coons (D-Delaware), Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut), Cory Booker (D-New Jersey), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), and Katie Britt (R-Alabama).

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant at the IAF's command center: "This needs to be the last [ground] maneuver in Gaza, for the simple reason that after it there will be no Hamas. It will take a month, two months, three, but in the end there will be no Hamas. Before the enemy meets the armored and infantry forces, it will meet the bombs of the Air Force. I am under the impression that you know how to do it in a lethal, precise, and very high-quality way, as it has been proven until now."

Several thousand people are rallying in support of Israel in Berlin.

Police say around 10,000 people have gathered at Brandenburg Gate for the demonstration in solidarity with Israel and in opposition to antisemitism, though organizers put the figure at 25,000.

“It is unbearable that Jews are living in fear again today — especially in our country,” Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier tells the crowds. “Every single attack on Jews, on Jewish institutions, is a disgrace for Germany. Every single attack fills me with shame and anger.”

Gallant: This war may take months, ‘but in the end there will be no Hamas’

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant says Israel’s upcoming ground offensive in the Gaza Strip may last three months, but it will be the very last one if Israel succeeds in eliminating the Hamas terror group.

“This needs to be the last [ground] maneuver in Gaza, for the simple reason that after it there will be no Hamas. It will take a month, two months, three, but in the end, there will be no Hamas,” Gallant says at the Israeli Air Force’s command center in Tel Aviv.

“Before the enemy meets the armored and infantry forces, it will meet the bombs of the Air Force,” he continues.

“I am under the impression that you know how to do it in a lethal, precise, and very high-quality way, as it has been proven until now,” Gallant adds to the IAF officials.

Israeli warplanes struck targets across Gaza overnight and into Sunday, as well as two airports in Syria and a mosque in the occupied West Bank allegedly used by militants, as the 2-week-old war with Hamas threatened to spiral into a broader conflict.

Israel has traded fire with Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group on a near-daily basis since the war began, and tensions are soaring in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where Israeli forces have battled militants in refugee camps and carried out two airstrikes in recent days.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told troops in northern Israel that if Hezbollah launches a war against Israel, “it will make the mistake of its life. We will cripple it with a force it cannot even imagine and the consequences for it and the Lebanese state will be devastating.”

Last month, I went with my mum and sister to my Palestinian cousin's wedding (he lives in the UK and is in his 20s). One of his Palestinian friends whom we met there (also in his 20s) just lost 30 members of his family in an air strike in Gaza.

My cousin is in a WhatsApp group with Palestinians in Gaza and they don't care about aid. They just want the attacks to stop.

Innocent people on both sides are suffering and losing loved ones.

Israel is not innocent. The state of Israel is murdering innocent people.
