The difference in the numbers ... Israel used funds to protect the citizens.
Hamas steals from it's citizens, hides behind women and children and uses funds to built tunnels to protect themselves.

The UN has provided all essentials for life, schools, medical care and housing for almost 75 years. These folks aren't ever going to have a better life and become self supporting.

Statehood they say, while the world supports them.

We will just have to agree to disagree. IMO.

UN warns of 'potential for thousands more to die' in Gaza

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has warned that there was the potential for thousands more civilians to die as Israel presses ahead with a major ground operation in Gaza.

"Given the manner in which military operations have been conducted until now, in the context of the 56-year-old occupation, I am raising alarm about the possibly catastrophic consequences of large-scale ground operations in Gaza and the potential for thousands more civilians to die," Volker Turk said.

"There is no safe place in Gaza and there is no way out. I am very worried for my colleagues, as I am for all civilians in Gaza," he added.

Israel's army has relentlessly hammered Gaza after fierce overnight bombardment that rescuers said destroyed hundreds of buildings three weeks into a war sparked by the deadliest attack in the country's history.

(...)

The UN rights chief also condemned the Internet and telecommunications blackout that has hit the Palestinian enclave since yesterday.

"Compounding the misery and suffering of civilians, Israeli strikes on telecommunications installations and subsequent Internet shutdown have effectively left Gazans with no way of knowing what is happening across Gaza and cut them off from the outside world," he said.

"Ambulances and civil defence teams are no longer able to locate the injured, or the thousands of people estimated to be still under the rubble.

"When these hostilities end, those who have survived will face the rubble of their homes and the graves of their family members," Turk said.

He called on all parties "to do all in their power to de-escalate the conflict".

Gazans mourn multiple casualties after overnight bombardment

From CNN's Kareem Khadder

People gathered at Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza on Saturday morning to mourn loved ones lost in a night of intense Israeli airstrikes.

Video captured by CNN shows multiple bodies, including those of children, covered in white shrouds or thick blankets, placed on the ground in the hospital yard.

Dr. Khalil Al-Dikran told CNN the hospital had received 22 bodies overnight and hundreds of injured. He said people had brought the dead and the wounded to hospital using everything from cars, bikes, and donkey carts.

Hospitals have lost contact with each other, he said, after communications networks were cut across the Gaza Strip.

People are desperate to find some news about their loved ones and their families,” he added.

Al-Dikran also said that after a pause of several hours, airstrikes had resumed again in central and northern Gaza.

Artillery fire had continued uninterrupted through the night, he said.

Bbm.
The communications needed to be cut to also stop the terrorists from communicating with each other; and I'm sure those who live there and work in the hospital understand that.

What is esp. sad is the innocent children who do not have a voice or a choice ...they did not elect Hamas --the same gov't. that is putting people in harms' way.
Loss of innocent life is unbearable for the surviving families, and even more so when those people died at the hands of Hamas who used them for human shields.
These deaths are Hamas' fault.

"Israel withdraws diplomats from Turkey.

This is the result of Erdogan's words.

'Hamas is not a terrorist organization, while Israel is an occupier'
- said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a rally in support of Palestine in Istanbul.

Israel reacted to these words - the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordered the return of all diplomats from Turkey.

'The main culprit of the massacre in Gaza is the West, it is its work'
- argued Erdogan.

He accused Western leaders of 'shedding tears' over the deaths of civilians in Ukraine and 'turning a blind eye' to the deaths of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.

He described the situation as an 'atmosphere reminiscent of the crusades' of Christianity against Islam'.

Israel responds

These words angered Israel.

'Against the background of serious statements from Turkey, I have ordered the return of all diplomatic representatives from that country to reassess relations between Israel and Turkey' - said Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen."

Gaza is a two-layer cake.
Civilians are on top, and Hamas underground.
Gaza has one of the most complex underground complexes known to man and
they've have 17 years to prepare for this battle.
Tunnel fighting is not about skill. It's about firepower, superiority, unflinching movement.
A stoned enemy will do things that no normal soldier would even consider.
And once you thought you'd won the fight, they'd just blow the building up – killing you, them and everyone else.
The sick reality of urban war against homicidal maniacs is that you can do everything right and still die.

Emphasis mine.
An inside look at urban fighting. ^^^

Regarding the 'stoned' comment, I've wondered if the terrorists on Oct. 7th were pretty much 'high' on something ?
Still no excuse for murdering babies, not to mention all of the other unarmed innocent people.

Another concern is that within the tunnel or even fighting in buildings, it's going to be difficult to separate the Hamas terrorists from ordinary people.
It's conceivable that the terrorists will gather women or kids around them and pretend they're a family trying to get to shelter , and then produce guns and kill the IDF if there's any hesitation on the part of the IDF, or if they're let go ?
Hamas could also hide in people's homes to lure Israelis into thinking they're civilians.
Etc.

IDF chief says ground offensive in Gaza essential to achieve war aims

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi in a video statement says that to defeat Hamas and return the hostages the terror group is holding, Israel must carry out a major ground offensive in the Gaza Strip

“Three weeks have passed since the start of the war. This war has stages, and today we moved into a new phase,” Halevi says, referring to ongoing, expanded ground operations in Gaza.

“Our forces are currently carrying out ground operations in the Gaza Strip… which serve to achieve all the war’s objectives: dismantling Hamas, security at the borders, and uppermost efforts to return all the hostages back home,” he says.

“The objectives of the war require ground entry. There are no achievements without risks, and there is no victory without prices being paid,” he continues.

“In order to expose the enemy and destroy it, there is no other way but to enter its territory with great force,” Halevi says, adding that the ground operations “serve all the objectives of the war.”

He also says returning the hostages “is a national effort of utmost importance.”

“Hamas is now holding innocents — babies, children, women, men, and elderly citizens,” he says. “We will do everything in order to succeed in this effort.”

Hamas demands all Palestinian security prisoners be freed in exchange for ‘enemy hostages’

Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida demands that Israel release all Palestinian security prisoners in return for the Israeli hostages it is holding, AFP reports.

“The price to pay for the large number of enemy hostages in our hands is to empty the (Israeli) prisons of all Palestinian prisoners,” he says, in a statement broadcast by the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa television channel.

Hamas and other Gaza terror groups are believed to be holding some 230 hostages, abducted from Israel during the terrorists’ October 7 assault on southern Israel in which over 1,400 were killed, mostly civilians.

Ahead of a likely Israeli ground invasion, Obeida also says Hamas is “waiting for you,” and predicts “a great defeat” and the imminent end of Zionism.

Very clever. And no one should be surprised. All those claims of low fuel making sense now?
Indeed.
Really revolting that the Hamas' terrorists are playing the victim when they have more than enough.
Food, fuel, medicine. All stolen from the people.

Exactly!!!

The TERRORISTS themselves wanted this reaction.
Stir the pot, pit enemy against enemy, and watch the destruction and mayhem with glee. ( See dancing in the street videos ). It was clear to me.

Regarding the UN humanitarian truce vote a few days ago:

Left: How the UN General Assembly voted for a humanitarian truce in Gaza.

This is the final vote being spun to claim abstaining countries - like the Baltics and Ukraine, for example - didn’t support a humanitarian truce.

Right: How the UN General Assembly voted on the exact same resolution - yet with the added statement that the UN General Assembly “unequivocally rejects and condemns the terrorist attacks by Hamas that took place in Israel starting on the 7th of October 2023 and the taking of hostages, demands the safety, well-being and humane treatment of the hostages in compliance with international law, and calls for their immediate and unconditional release".

That amendment got a majority of global votes, but didn’t pass to a final vote because it needed a two thirds majority.

It was blocked by a minority of countries that wanted to remove condemnation of hamas and specifically didn’t like the term “hostages” (rather than “captives”) because it recognises them as a criminal group.

As a result of this geopolitical gameplaying at the expense of Palestinians, the final vote was polarising in the way it could legitimise a terrorist organisation holding hostages.

This is why countries chose to abstain on the final vote.

The question....

Will Egypt allow them to enter through their border.

This is theatrics, in my opinion, to enrage the US.
Jmo

Hamas will likely bring them out through one of their many tunnels running from the Gaza into Egypt...

IDF releases footage of the interrogation of Hamas terrorists who participated in the October 7 massacre in southern Israel, where they reveal that the terror group has a hideout under Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

From the first video, regarding fuel:

"Like I said, first they worry about the machines and their jeeps, and then they give it to the people."

He is then asked if the residents of Gaza are free to go wherever they want, and he replies:

"No, it's forbidden to go to Egypt without their permission."

  • #277
I appreciate your reply and agree with some of your points. I still don’t believe that carpet bombing innocent civilians is the answer.

Current death tolls:
“1,400
Number of Israelis killed

7,326
Number of Palestinians killed

5,431
Number of Israeli’s injured

18,967
Number of Palestinians injured

250,000
Number of Israelis displaced

1.4 million
Number of Palestinians displaced in Gaza”

The link does not say Israel is carpet bombing innocent civilians.
Have checked around and haven't seen that theory published anywhere yet.
Although it's likely some Hamas' influenced publications may have claimed that ?

I do not believe the IDF is doing that .
More like surgical strikes on areas where they know Hamas' bases are operating ?
The possibility that Hamas are forcing civilians to gather in large numbers directly in those headquarters is horrifying.
These terrorists treat their own as if they're disposable; imo.

IDF says Israeli ground forces in Gaza struck Hamas operatives and posts

The Israel Defense Forces says it continued ground operations in the Gaza Strip today, targeting several Hamas operatives and positions.

The IDF says that during the operations which began last night troops struck terror cells attempting to carry out anti-tank guided missile and mortar attacks.

Additionally, the ground forces found and destroyed a booby-trapped home, the IDF says.

Also during the raid, the IDF says tank forces directed a combat helicopter to strike a building in the Gaza Strip, where a number of Hamas members were gathered.

The military publishes a series of clips showing the forces operating inside Gaza.

Netanyahu tells families of captives Israel will ‘exhaust every possibility’ for their return

After meeting with representatives of families whose loved ones are being held captive in Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledges Israel “will exercise exhaust every possibility” to bring about their return.

Netanyahu stressed to the families that freeing the hostages is a chief goal of the war, according to a statement from his office.

“The key is the level of pressure,” the premier is quoted as saying. “The greater the pressure, the greater the chances [of freeing the captives].”

No !!! Say it ain't so. A 'criminal group' ?
*some sarcasm intended*

Does Hamas really think if enough nations accept their actions  ; that they'll (Hamas) be accepted as a legitimate government ?
What planet are they living on ?
Amazing that some countries view the Oct. 7th atrocities as normal.
Also, no other nations seem to be eager to support them or invite the Palestinians to live there, so what does that say ?
