UK 'reviewing aid' to Palestinians, says deputy PM

The UK is reviewing its aid to Palestine, deputy prime minister Oliver Dowden told ITV’s Peston.

Dowden said:

“We are currently reviewing our aid. It is already the case, though, that we go through a very rigorous process for the sort of aid we provide.

It’s also very important to appreciate that we shouldn’t clump together the Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip who have carried out these attacks and the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian people.

It’s just important to keep those two things separate. But of course, we will look at that aid.”

And there it is.

I am dumbfounded that the US would give Iran anything.

My American friends, did you know that this had occurred?

Just sitting here wondering how much of my hard earned money has filtered down to Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah over the years via Iran.

This is a huge wake up call for all of us.

MOO
yes sadly many of us Americans are very aware of how our government has funded corruption and outright terrorism (and not just in the Middle East; Central/South America historically comes to mind too). absolutely disgusting.

The European Commission have finally issued a statement offering clarification of an announcement that it was suspending “all payments” to Palestine in the wake of the Hamas attack.

It said it was “launching an urgent review of the EU’s assistance for Palestine”.

In addition to existing safeguards to ensure no money goes to Hamas-backed projects, “the objective of this review is to ensure that no EU funding indirectly enables any terrorist organization to carry out attacks against Israel”.

The Commission will equally review if, in light of the changed circumstances on the ground, its support programmes to the Palestinian population and to the Palestinian Authority need to be adjusted.

The Commission will carry out this review as soon as possible and coordinate with Member States and partners any follow up action necessary, it said.

It stated:

In the meantime, as there were no payments foreseen, there will be no suspension of payments,” without offering any details as to what this referred to or would mean.
This review does not concern humanitarian assistance provided under European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).

X’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict has come under scrutiny after a “deluge” of fake posts and Elon Musk’s recommendation of war coverage from accounts that have made false claims or antisemitic comments.

The owner of X, formerly Twitter, recommended two accounts on Sunday. He wrote: “For following the war in real-time, @WarMonitors and @sentdefender are good. It is also worth following direct sources on the ground. Please add interesting options in the replies below.”

The @WarMonitors account told a user in June “go worship a jew lil bro” while both accounts helped to spread a false claim in May that an explosion had occurred at the Pentagon. Emerson T Brooking, a researcher at the Atlantic Council’s digital forensic research lab, said the @sentdefender account regularly posted “wrong and unverifiable things”.

Musk has since deleted his post and disputed a War Monitor post describing Gaza fighters as “martyrs”. He wrote: “While reporting both sides is fair, please use maximally accurate words or I must withdraw my recommendation to follow your account.”

Fake social media accounts are spreading false information about the Israel-Hamas conflict, with X and TikTok among the affected platforms, according to disinformation specialists.

One in five social media accounts participating in online conversations about the Hamas attacks and their aftermath are fake, according to Cyabra, an Israeli analysis firm.

'At least 100 bodies recovered in Be'eri'

Israeli media report that at least 100 bodies recovered from Kibbutz Be'eri, citing rescue workers.

Be'eri is about 10 miles (20 km) from the Gaza border and it was one of the first places Hamas militants entered and took Israelis hostage on Saturday.

The clashes between Hamas militants and Israeli army have been continuing in the community.

This morning, an IDF spokesperson said that between 70 and 100 gunmen had been killed in the Be'eri area since Saturday.

Here's where things stand

If you're just joining us, here's the latest news on the conflict.
  • The death toll continues to rise in Israel since Saturday's surprise attack by Hamas fighters - with 900 killed, including 260 people massacred by gunmen at a music festival
  • Since Israel began striking Gaza in response, nearly 600 people have been killed there
  • Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke earlier from southern Israel and has warned the country will use "enormous force" against the Hamas militant group
  • Israel's defence minister earlier ordered a "complete siege" of the Gaza Strip, cutting off food, fuel, electricity and water supplies
  • The armed wing of Hamas, the Al-Qassam brigades, has announced it will "begin executing an Israeli civilian captive in return for any new Israeli bombing of civilians houses without pre-warning"
  • Nine US citizens are now confirmed dead in Israel, while more than 10 Britons are feared dead, or missing
  • Dozens of people are being held hostage by Hamas and their families are desperately searching for information

We are hearing more from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

During his speech, he said that air strikes in Gaza were "just the beginning" and added that they would do "everything for Israelis held captive in Gaza".

He also called on the opposition parties to form a broad coalition government, after an attempt by the two biggest opposition party leaders failed on Saturday.

This doesn't break much down. I know yesterday reports were 600 killed 44 of which were Israeli soldiers. Of this 680 how many are terrorists or soldiers?

LIVE: Palestinian supporters in New York protest US support of Israel

There is no debate that Palestinians got a terrible outcome to the fall of the Ottoman empire and yes, it is true that they were, as many other nationals were, ousted from their land in the period from WWI to WWII. The map of the entire world changed. They were victims, a very long time ago, but now they are their own worst enemy.

What would they propose now? that the current inhabitants of Israel evacuate and give them back their land? No amount of regret can change the past. It's done. Palestinians need to let go of things that happened a century ago and start to actually negotiate. Of all the places to live in the Middle East, Israel is not such a bad place to live in, and not an aggressive neighbor (assuming you're not trying to kill them).

“I’ve been factchecking on Twitter for years, and there’s always plenty of misinformation during major events. But the deluge of false posts in the last two days, many boosted via Twitter Blue [now X Premium], is something else. Neither factcheckers nor Community Notes can keep up with this.”

I hope they can get it under control quickly.

And although I would never, ever watch
Knowing the internet, people will come across it unwillingly. I know people were hiding ronnie McNutts(sp?) Suicide inside of other innocent videos, so people were seeing it without meaning to.

I would avoid social media for a while if you are concerned
