Oh no. So very sad. There was another student who went missing in Italy not long ago... remember John Durkin? He was found in a train tunnel after going missing from a night out with study abroad friends. I'm really thinking that these kids are drugged and robbed.

"Head wound. Bloody shirt." Being investigated as a homicide.

I'm still awaiting more solid confirmation. The article linked above was updated a third time, as:

The body has been taken to coroners at Sapienza University and for formal identification by his parents, who arrived in the capital on Sunday.

ETA: Another update:

"John Cabot University is deeply saddened to announce that the body of Beau Solomon, the missing American visiting student, has been found in the Tiber River," the university said in a statement on its website.

I am so very sorry to read that Beau's body has been found. This is just the worst thing possible for his parents but I'm glad they are there in Italy now at least. Poor guy goes out to celebrate on his first night there and ends up dead. I'm sure he was being watched and somehow became a victim, maybe, as was mentioned above, he had been drugged.

I had never heard about tourists being robbed, beaten and dumped over bridges before....thanks for the link Fascinating1. Who would ever expect that when you're young, carefree and out having a good time with friends. Just awful to know this happens.

Omg. I have no good words. Every fiber of me hurts for these parents. You do all you can, you let them spread their wings even though you worry, then to have your worst fear realised.💝💝💝💝💝

That is so so sad. If his credit cards are being used, then foul play? WTH?

That's what I'm thinking. Horrible.

I studied abroad in Rome and my apartment was in Trastevere. I never perceived it to be even remotely dangerous. It's quite scary to hear this is a pattern there. Rome is a big city though, and there were many students there who drank far too much far too fast. I'm not saying he did and it's no excuse for someone else to injure or harm you, but it obviously puts your guard down fast. I was guilty of doing the same in other cities I traveled to. How absolutely tragic for his first night in town. He had so much to experience there and in life - all to be killed over a wallet?! What repulsive people.

He was a popular guy having an amazing time in a fantastic city and it sounds like this opportunity has been snatched away by someone else, how upsetting and tragic.

RIP Beau

How many American student deaths and critical injuries have occurred via falls while attending John Cabot University? Only they know. These cases were publicly reported:

Andrew Mogni, University of Iowa
Ricky Demello, St. Thomas University, Minneapolis
John Durkin, Bates College (John’s wallet was reportedly not with him.)
Andrew Carr, Marquette University, Milwaukee
Karen Young, University North Carolina

Marquette alum here and Andrew Carr was drunk and walking on a high wall when he fell. Quite tragic and sad but wanted to point out that he was not the victim of a robbery as this case appears to be.

Poor Beau didn't even make it one night. Not ONE night. When I was in college and went out with a group of friends we stuck together. We didn't let each other leave with people we didn't know, didn't let each other walk home alone, reminded each other not to accept drinks from others and not to put drinks down, etc. So many tragic stories could have been prevented with common sense measures. I definitely think and hope that colleges are pushing this kind of advice both for students on campus and those going abroad. When I was at Marquette and was part of a summer study program in Mexico we were lectured extensively on safety tips involving everything from just site-seeing to going out drinking to drugs and what to do if we got into trouble. I'm not saying what happened to Beau could have been prevented, just that stories of bad things happening to both young men and women seem everywhere and it's tragic.

I would be looking at the bar camera's and talk to workers to see who are regulars there. It is probably a college bar and the American students would stand out.To study abroad would mean the parents have money and so would the students.I do believe there is a connection to the other's at John Cabot University. You never know the bartender
could be drugging them too.It seems like he just vanished from the bar.i would do a strip down of the bar and check out all employees.I hope they do a tox report on him.

Let's hope the places it was used have CCTV. This is tragic how awful for Beau's family and friends.
