I heard Maui had 7ft waves and Oahu and Kauai had 3ft waves. The latest reports I heard said the "worst is over" for Hawaii.

On Fox,they just read an urgent bulletin from Govenor of Hawaii that said to still use an abundance of caution ,particularly in Maui and Big Island. Apparently they he doesn't feel its over yet.

Orange County CA is seeming to be a non event, only one school closing, and they are essentially waiting for the authorities to reopen the beaches.

Just to add a little info for those who might have friends / family in the area:
just texted with my son in Santa Monica, CA who was watching the devastation in Japan on TV and is aware of the situation. So far , so good in that area. He said he would update me if anything changed.
Another friend said her daughter in the same area was not happy about being waked up and said that "there will just probably be a lot of surfers out there". Hope she's right!

My heart goes out to all who have been and might be affected by this disaster.
Gosh, the whole world just looks like a "powder keg" of natural and MAN made disasters all over the globe.
I'm praying for the WHOLE WORLD!!!
Sorry to go on a tear, but like some of you I have friends and family all along the CA coast....a little nerve wracking, to say the least, huh?
Thanks SO MUCH to all of you who have provided so much information for those of us watching.....and waiting.:tyou:

11ft wave hit HA.

Wow,have not heard that yet. I'm glad the Govenor issued that warning and didn't say all clear.

Question for anybody...when thre are large aftershocks like the initial one in Japan(7.something),why don't they create another tsunami? With all the aftershocks you would think it would just continue on. I'm glad it doesn't but curious why not?

Radiation poisoning travels around the world on the jet stream. Many many human beings sacrificed in order to contain the disaster. Potential poisoning of local people. jmo

eta: check out the disaster at Chernobyl-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl

Is anyone on WS from Japan? We have a friend over there who lives on that coast and we are very worried about him. We have friends in HI and we live in WA, though not on the coast.

What a horrible day. :(

Wide spread radiation? Devestation. I wonder the wisdom of putting nuclear plants in what is an earthquake zone?
