Very informative article... radiation has been detected 60 miles from the plant, releases are likely to last for months, and this little doozy that gives an idea of how difficult seawater cooling actually is:

To pump in the water, the Japanese have apparently tried used fire-fighting equipment — hardly the usual procedure. But forcing the seawater inside the containment vessel has been extraordinarily difficult, because the pressure in the vessel has become so great.

One American official likened the process to “trying to pour water into an inflated balloon,” and said that on Sunday it was “not clear how much water they are getting in, or whether they are covering the cores.”

I'm seeing on twitter that a 3 meter high tsunami is about to hit Fukushima...

nhk 3 meter tsunami - Google Search
OH NO!!!!!
I have learned to have a tremendous amount of respect for the Japanese culture. I have read where the people are lining up patiently to purchase food. We are not seeing the looting and lawlessness we witness in the US. We could all learn a lot from watching them.
God bless them!!!

that is soo sad :(

I thought you got decontaminated and then were fine.... why the isolation???

Hi Peeples, CNN had an expert on radiation as a guest today. He said if one is exposed they can take an iodine pill as long as it is taken in the 24 hours after exposure. He said all it takes is one pill which would be for light exposure from a cloud. He said the radiation doesn't stay aloft very long. Later I heard there are many variables, like the amount of radiation you are exposed to and for how long.

I remember reading about the bombs we dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima and how deadly the radiation was. It never hurts to look back and I found this:

Number three is the "bad boy" right? The one they were really worried about?

  • #854
Conflicting reports about the tsunami-- some say water dropped 5 meters at Fukushima, some say wave spotted from helicopters, now saying tsunami is not detected. ????

Yes, it uses plutonium, instead of uranium, as fuel. Baaaad. mo

I actually feel sick to my stomach for these survivors. I actually hurt so much for them I want to puke. No exaggeration. :( Will it ever end for them? This is just terrible.

:praying: Please please please let this be over for them.

CNN is reporting smoke coming from reactor #1 and a hydrogen explosion from reactor #3.

NHK Live reporting is saying no Tsunami has occurred. The latest aftershock was a 6.2 and not powerful enough to cause a Tsunami. The Tsunami warning remains in effect for safety reasons but any waves should have been seen by now and they have not been seen.

I would take the iodine.... to keep from getting thyroid cancer. But that doesn't do jack squat for any other organ system in the body! This is just horrible!!!
