Officials keep apologizing for causing concern. Ordering operators to evacuate. Reporters at presser asking pressing questions. Asking why are you apologizing if this isn't serious? Reporter says you aren't answering our questions. You keep apologizing. What is the nature this time? Is it serious? Whoa, reporters have had enough.

I get the impression this was not a hydrogen blast. A talking head said while waiting for presser that this blast actually is the containment vessel this time.

  • #1,043
Official keeps repeating the same technical issues, but will not say what it means. Dancing around the issue. Would like to confirm numbers and explain later. Whaaaaa? These guys are not going to answer any questions directly.

Lovely press conference UGHHHHHHHHHHH

FOX is reporting that a leak is happening now...not sure how, the Japanese gov is stating that the #2 reactor is likely leaking now.

God help everyone.

Now saying there maybe problem with the pressure guage instead of damage to the suppresion pool. (oh yeah, the guage blew up. Right)

  • #1,047
They are all sitting with their heads bowed - and are not answering any
questions directly. This presser is of real concern.

The reporters are basically saying if all is ok, then why evacuate the operators. Answers not making sense and reporters are calling them on this.

I just wish they'd be honest. I don't blame them for what is happening.. it was a series of natural disasters that caused this....but if they aren't being honest, they are making it worse :(

I don't know what to think any more. I believe I understand why all the apologies, it is a cultural thing, a losing of face, so to speak. But, I don't understand why no one knows, or will say WHAT blew up and WHAT it means. Maybe "they" don't know?

  • #1,052
Aha! Admitting that damage to container vessel (the last safeguard) could have caused the pressure to the supression pool to drop.

  • #1,053
Well the way I'm understanding it, unless the guage malfunctioned, the container vessel is damaged. I don't think a gauge would have made an explosive sound soooo.......

  • #1,054
Anyone know which way the wind is blowing now?

  • #1,055
Pressure went down, and radiation went up suddenly. Staff members evacuated.

My heart aches so badly these last few days....

can someone explain this in laymans terms pretty please :)
http://money.cnn.com/2011/03/14/news/international/bank_of_japan_earthquake/index.htm?cnn=yes&hpt=T2

apanese officials said Monday they will backstop the country's financial system with a cash injection of more than $180 billion to buffer it against the impact of last week's devastating earthquake and tsunami.

The Bank of Japan doubled the size of its existing asset-purchase program to ¥10 trillion from ¥5 trillion. In addition it pumped an additional ¥10 trillion into the economy through a record "funds-supplying" operation, bringing the total new cash to ¥15 trillion, or about $183 billion.

ETA: shouldn't all that money go to helping the people?? I don't understand what they are doing with it.....

When I heard the newscaster on CNN say:We had a explosion "of sorts" I about fell out of my chair.

Of sorts? Really?

If I had to interpret this move, it means they are abandoning the plant and allowing all three reactors to melt down. Nothing more the operators can do. Now it's left for the main containment vessels to withstand the meltdown.

I suppose we'll hear more later but really it's no sense in exposing any more victims. JMO
