From a nuke friend @ 18:15 DST:

They are an exact copy of a plant we own. Media is blowing it up, except for the fuel pool part, that's bad. We sent copies of our procedures to help. The more the rods are exposed the hotter they get so the longer to cool down. They should be able to hook up to their control rod drive pumps to pump water in if they lost High Pressure Coolant Injection system and depending on core pressure Low Pressure Coolant Injection system.

Hope that calms some fears... probably not, at this stage of the game...

Mods, I can't site sources so delete if necessary...

Fire erupts again at Fukushima Daiichi's No. 4 reactor

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationw...n-quake-reactor-fire-20110316,0,7859671.story

Quote: A new fire breaks out in the No. 4 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex. The plant's operator says the fire reignited because an initial blaze was not completely extinguished.

I thought it was pretty strange that 24 hours later, another fire in the same spot.

Radiation released from the six-reactor Fukushima Daiichi complex Tuesday caused a 400-fold increase in background levels outside the stricken plant and about 10 times the normal level in Tokyo, the usually thriving capital 150 miles south of the power facility. Those levels described by a top government official as hazardous to human health declined overnight, suggesting the situation might be stabilizing at the three reactors experiencing cooling problems in the nuclear fuel containment vessels, officials said.<snipped>

#2 has potential of melting down
#3 had an explosion and is leaking radiation
#4 is on fire
#5 has heat rising in spent fuel pool
#6 has heat rising in spent fuel pool

cold is not the word I am thinking....

Fukushima Daichi is the one with all these trouble, the one up the road, Fukushima Danai, has achieved cold shutdown. Sorry for the confusion.

Translation into Great Dane speak:

When is this lady going to move away from that computer? I've been waiting for "fill in the blank" hours for her to take my butt outside...It's like banging your head against the wall to get anyone to play with you around here.....:D

Japan needs to start packing the reactors with sand and cement like, 3 days ago.

They're being retarded. It's too dangerous to drop water from helicopters but they can have a bunch of people right near by putting water in? The first way is less dangerous dummies!

No offense meant by use of 'retarded'.

1) thud

2) wow

3) IIRC I read an article from the Japanese government that said they had KI ready to treat evacuees but had not used it yet... I wonder if we will really hear when this is done... and I wonder further if the hospitals that bought out the supply are stateside or abroad. For a hospital to buy a stock of KI that order has to be coming from a higher place....

4) moo

I hope it was a hospital that will send it to Japan for those exposed.

I'd much rather have them receive it because they need it than to have knowledge of it sitting in someone's med cabinet here...just in case.

JMHO.

I was worried that there might be shortage for those that need it because of already being exposed.
