what will boric acid do for no. 4? TIA

I hope it was a hospital that will send it to Japan for those exposed.

I'd much rather have them receive it because they need it than to have knowledge of it sitting in someone's med cabinet here...just in case.

JMHO.

I was worried that there might be shortage for those that need it because of already being exposed.

Kat, I bought 1 little bottle to have Just in case.. I wasn't buying it all up......

it is used to put out nuclear caused fire....

the reason they would use it at this phase is alarming... because it means that a reaction is occuring: Boric acid is used......

in nuclear power plants to control the fission rate of uranium, and as a precursor of other chemical compounds

I wasn't insinuating that you were at all.

But IMHO if 100,000 people buy one bottle just in case we just might find ourselves in a shortage for those that do need the meds.

Might.

Operative word--------might.

No post on this thread that has been posted by me is directed at any poster here. I am merely expressing my thoughts and opinions.

I feel and think I have the right to do that just like anyone else? I'm not quite sure why anyone would think that any portion of my post was directed at them.

In fact, on several posts on the 2 threads that are for this topic I have openly stated that I am not directing my thoughts or opinions *at* anyone here so I'm not sure how else to communicate that I am only sharing my thoughts?

I am really at a loss on that one.

Fukushima's Radiation So Far

Quote: At the Fukushima reactor I, the Japanese government reports, workers have been in the vicinity of radiation levels in the past day as high as 400 millisieverts per hour. "That's pretty high, it's worrisome," says K. S. Clifford Chao, head of radiation oncology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

and

At that level, says Chao, an hour's exposure is roughly equivalent to 1000 times the radiation that the average American experiences in a full year.

Toxicology

Based on mammalian median lethal dose (LD50) rating of 2,660 mg/kg body mass, boric acid is poisonous if taken internally or inhaled in large quantities. However, it is generally considered to be not much more toxic than table salt.[4] The Thirteenth Edition of the Merck Index indicates that the LD50 of boric acid is 5.14 g/kg for oral dosages given to rats, and that 5 to 20 g/kg has produced death in adult humans. The LD50 of sodium chloride is reported to be 3.75 g/kg in rats according to the Merck Index.
Long term exposure to boric acid may be of more concern, causing kidney damage and eventually kidney failure (see links below). Although it does not appear to be carcinogenic, studies in dogs have reported testicular atrophy after exposure to 32 mg/kg bw/day for 90 days. This level is far lower than the LD50.[5]
According to boric acid IUCLID Dataset published by the European Commission, boric acid in high doses shows significant developmental toxicity and teratogenicity in rabbit, rat, and mouse fetuses as well as cardiovascular defects, skeletal variations, mild kidney lesions.[6] As a consequence, in August 2008, in the 30th ATP to EU directive 67/548/EEC, the EC decided to amend its classification as reprotoxic category 2 and to apply the risk phrases R60 (may impair fertility) and R61 (may cause harm to the unborn child).[7][8][9][10][11]
At a recent European Diagnostics Manufacturing Association (EDMA) Meeting several new additions to the Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) candidate list in relation to the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals Regulations 2007 (REACH) were discussed. The registration and review completed as part of REACH has meant the current classification of Boric Acid CAS 10043-35-3 / 11113-50-1 as of 1 December 2010 will be listed as H360FD (May damage fertility. May damage the unborn child.) [12] [13]

The chief of LA county’s public health department, Dr. Jonathan Fielding, says he's heard the stories about people running to pharmacies looking for potassium iodide, a tablet that counteracts a radioactive isotope that the Japanese reactors could release. He's urging anyone who has that medicine not to take it unnecessarily.

“While it's usually benign, it can be harmful occasionally, especially to people who have allergies to iodide or shellfish and to those with skin disorders or thyroid problems,” says Fielding. “It can cause uncomfortable effects such as upset, nausea and rashes.”<snipped>

What scares me about the iodide pill shortage is really in this day and age with all the nuclear plants........should there even be a shortage? That's just another thing that points to the fact that we ain't prepared for chit.

Yep. One or two lives would be up there above it, while there are hundreds of thousands of lives in the miles surrounding the area.

They've been trying the pumping way for 5 days. It isn't working and is getting worse. What other choice is there other than trying fly and drops?
