I hate politics. IMO something like this should be so far above political concern at this stage. Fight that battle later, WTH about right now, right this minute. Let's discuss that. pppffffttttttttttttt.

All of the water is gone from one of the spent fuel pools, says U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission chief Gregory Jaczko. That means there's nothing to stop the fuel rods from getting hotter and melting down, according to the AP.

Meanwhile TEPCO, the electricity company, says it can't confirm when the power line will actually be complete. They say it will be done ASAP. This is contrary to an earlier report that said the powerline was nearly ready.

23 US plants the same design and age as Fukishima plant.

And that same design (Mark I) was found to have flaws as long ago as 1972 & 1986, according to the Senator (Vermont) speaking now.

I'm using a link for twitter updates that someone provided a page or so back. You have to type in what you want tweets on. I used Drudge Report, you can use meltdown, earthquake, Japan etc...

I listened to that for about 15 minutes and couldn't take anymore.

"US nuclear plants are up to code and safe"...blah, blah, blah

Isn't that what we used to hear about Japan's nuclear system until...yesterday? Or was it Monday? The Japanese have it covered and under control. Oy vey!

No one knows what would happen if there is a super major catastrophe. The folks in Japan had no idea they'd be hit the way they were, and they are still being hit by problems on top of problems, plus snow! This is beyond "worst case scenario".

And the Americans say, "we're okay and prepared for every contingency". Really? Really? :banghead: They should be worried, WORRIED, and working towards taking all safety precautions.

I just had to turn off that live feed before I punched my monitor and tossed my speakers. :banghead:

Wth, I want to know what the levels are and if they are evacuating the plant again! I'm not finding much right now...

Senator Lautenburg just chided Mr. Jaczko for comparing the outdated Mark I design with "vintage" airplane design - said it wasn't a fair analogy under the circumstances.

I agree.

I can assure you, and I am no one, that US plants are inspected completely inside and out during every refueling outage, approx every 18 months. These plants are designed to withstand an earthquake. When a large wave of water comes in and wipes out all of your back-up power supplies, there is a problem. This plant withstood the earthquake, the backup power kicked on immediately. The tsunami is what caused the problems.

How are they going to analyze exactly what happened when they have came out and said they are not getting the whole truth about this from Tepco and Japan's gov.?
