He got the USA today to take with him to read while he smoked.

He read a day old USA Today for the sports scores (so he said), when he already had been online on his computer on a sports site AND had a sports channel on the TV in his room (as overheard by the friend he was on the phone with). But yet... he has to read a day old newspaper outside, at night, in the dark, with wind gusts up to 22mph? Not buying that. Smells like B.S. to me. More lies from someone who had to fabricate a story to match the evidence he knew the state had on him (leaving the hotel around midnight).

It is just that the USA Today that he picked up from the counter was a day old newspaper, and would not have up to date scores like he would have seen on the computer.
Also the fact that he testified on the stand that he was using his computer for work and we know that wasn't true that he was on sports websites.

He just wanted something to do while he smoked his cigar.

Listen to his testimony. I may be wrong, but I don't think he ever says he actually worked on the computer. I am re-listening right now.

Pictures of MY's position as she was found show she was partially face down and partially twisted up in the sheets from the bed as her body fell off the bed. One of her legs is caught in the sheets. She was not in a full face down position as you are imagining. Since part of her body was twisted, it was possible for livor to form towards her back, as it would have been lower than other parts.

"Something to do?" Ever try to read a newspaper outside at night, in the dark, in windy conditions? How did that work out?

How was he able to hold the newspaper and smoke a cigar at the same time? Remember the wind was gusty that evening -- he went into great detail about how he had to light up an entire match book in order to get the cigar lit. Where was the newspaper then? Finally, how would he have been able to see anything as small as sports scores in the dark?

More flotsam.

We dont know. We only know of the general description Jason gave us, and I dont believe what he says without corroboration or some indication of reliability. According to Jason, he parked somewhere on the side of the building near the emergency exit. It doesn't explain why he went to the farthest exit to smoke a cigar - oh, right, he needed a paper to read in the freezing gusting wind and the cigar was in his car (even though the defense could produce no witness who had ever seen Jason smoke a cigar).

We could go round and round on every detail of Jason's story and there are those who will accept it as truthful simply because it is cannot be proved to be impossible. But, Im sorry, his story is nothing more than a patchwork of cobbled excuses and explanations for each bit of incriminating evidence, and it just does not hold together as a believable story - especially since he came out with it for the first time 3 years after the crime and after having carefully considered the states evidence.

I remember the DA discussing why he went to the front desk a second time. They surmised that he got confused and took the wrong set of stairs to the first floor. He was forced to make an appearance there. Conjecture, yes but it was presented.

When you travel with your laptop, you do not carry the laptop charger in the laptop case with the computer? Do you mind me asking you why and where do you pack the charger?

I have a neoprene skin for my laptop and a grid for my cords which are never packed together (unless I am flying) because I am so disorganized:)

There are no lights at the emergency exit doors? If so, did he know there would be no lights?

He thought he could get away with it because of being out of town

Exactly. He put himself within possible striking distance of his house. Just far enough to be "out of state," but not so far that it was impossible to do a drive back and commit the murder. The timeline is tight, but not impossible. He had enough time. He got back later than he anticipated, as the rock in door had been discovered and the camera had been repositioned. Then, the camera was suddenly moved/pushed upwards from someone behind the camera, almost exactly 45 min after what was the stop in King, NC for gas. Someone coming in from outside would be in the position to move the camera without being seen on camera. Strange coincidence, that.

He assumed that people would buy the "I was outside reading a newspaper at midnight" excuse. And some people will buy anything he says. I don't think he thought about lights--he needed a reason why he went outside since he was seen on video walking towards that exit and he had changed his clothes. "Smoking a cigar" was his reason. His excuse for being at the front desk was so he could get the USA Today and check sports scores. Once the state had his testimony on record, they did some additional investigation to see what the weather conditions were like, and found out the weather was nasty. They also found out he lied about what he was doing on his computer. He said "working" but he was on a sports site with the TV sports on as well. He had no need to check day old sports scores as he already had access to any sports score he wanted and up-to-date. < busted >.

Like I said, he does not say he worked after he went to get his laptop.

And he did not have his laptop with him when he was smoking his cigar.

Not busted.

I am not calling her that her boss did. He said she was constantly involved in he said she said which lead to lots of conflicts at work and he constantly had to intervene.

Grammy Jean, I don't think this is entirely true. The state went to great lengths to discredit Mrs. Beaver and I thought they treated her horribly. If you listen to her testimony, you will hear how she was bullied over the years when giving her statements and how there even came a time, she wanted to back out. She couldn't take it any more. I am sorry, but they were really rough on her and the court allowed it. Her testimony never wavered and she knew what she saw. She lived on that street for 21 years.
A busybody would have been down at the Youngs house later that day butting in and giving her information. She never did that.....

Why did she have posterior livor when she was found face down? If she was face down, livor shb anterior.

It was reported that it was many hours before MY was transferred to the morgue. Most likely the investigators turned her on her back at some point to assess her injuries.

Not busted.

He had his laptop before the smoking the cigar time (which he claimed was around midnight). And he claims to have gotten his power cord before as well (allegedly on his first trip to his car outside). He said he wanted to go through his sales presentation for the next day. Computer forensics show he did not do that, and he was on a sports site.

He had already done the sports site thing on his laptop and he had already seen the sports channel on the TV. At the point where he "went outside to smoke a cigar and grab a day old USA Today to see the sports scores" he already had accessed the sports site on his laptop upstairs in his room AND on the TV in his room.

Everyone is turned on their back after death. Are you saying livor is posterior in all autopsies?

I mis-typed. I meant power cord.

And, BTW, want to know how many times I say I am going to work and end up on WS:)

I am not sure , but, do we know if he had the directions to the meeting with him?
Why did he wait until last minute? I am sure he knew the general direction he was headed to but why not know exactly where ahead of time? This meeting was set up weeks in advance.

To me, this just proves JY did not plan anything, not even his trip. And this is exactly how JY was described by friends and family in court testimony. He was not a planner.

Another thing, and I have to look this up to be positive, but after he made the gas stop before he left Raleigh, he talked to his Mom almost all the way to Greensboro, NC (Cracker Barrel), then he spoke with MF and then he had some other calls along the way before he reached Hillsville. Basically, he talked on his cell the whole trip, so I don't find anything out of the norm by calling his Mom the next morning and planning on talking to her some more while he drove. This trip was not just straight highway , it was through the mountains and cell phone reception was bad and probably getting worse as his travel continued.
Phone records show he was pretty much always talking to someone, MY, MM, and his friend DB, soooooooo, when did he have time on his trip to plan the last details of the murder?

BBM
I remember reading he hiked the Appalachian Trail by himself. How could he not be a detailed planner?

Are you sure about this? Are these his words?

Yes, he said he was interrupted by MY and CY and forgot them. But then someone above posted something about about timing which confused me. I am re-listening to his testimony now.

I really wish there were transcripts of the testimony. It would make re-hashing way easier.
