There are two ways to interpret what Jason did when he arrived at Meredith's home: his priority was his daughter and he immediately sought to comfort her, or he should have left her alone, and spent time with police ... whose only objective was to pin him (the suspect) to a story.

Yes, his priority was his daughter.....he left her alone for hours with her Mother's dead body........

I never thought it made a difference if he arrived at his moms before or after Michelle was discovered. I just think he was taking his good old time, finding things to do until he got the call from Meredith. Too much of a coincidence...sending her over there.... He was waiting. He wanted as many people to see him as possible. And he was MORE than capable of getting all of that done because his adrenaline must have been pumping like crazy.

I initially thought it was too much of a coincidence too until I learned more about how he had told MF at least a week prior of his plans to buy her a purse added to the fact that he was in recent frequent contact with her as she acted as their mediator. Then to me it doesn't seem out of the ordinary. He was trying to win MF and LF over with this gift. I believe it was more about pleasing them than pleasing MY.

All my opinion, but it is usually reported that after a spousal homicide, the murderer feels calm and drained/tired. That is, the marriage/spouse is perceived as the source of anxiety and stress. After the murder, if it is a spousal homicide, the murderer feels relieved; like a huge burden has been lifted. I would expect Jason to be drained after the murder, not hyperactive, planning work related cold calls, picking up furniture and so on.

There is not a hallway......you come in from the garage, are in a "mudroom", you are facing the stairs to the bonus room, and the kitchen is on the left. The is no door or hallway going into the kitchen.

I have been/lived in a house almost exactly like Michelle's house.......I know this to be true.

There is a hallway from where the purse is located, past the small bathroom, to the front entrance. There is no clear sightline from the garage door at the bottom of the stairs to where the purse was located. If it exists, please post a floorplan that demonstrates clear sightlines between the two locations.

Actually, he could have left earlier and still spent the night in Hillsville. That wouldn't have looked odd. Say he left at 4, arrived there at 7, had dinner, etc. In fact, maybe his alibi would have been stronger if he showed he was there earlier instead of arriving at 11 only to turn around and drive the whole way back.

Mowing the lawn = indication of innocence

Also an indication that he could have wanted everything to look status quo.

How soon after arriving back in Raleigh did JY get a lawyer? If I recall correctly they stopped briefly at Applebee's while his sister tried to contact her lawyer but they continued after she was unable to do so. That would seem to suggest that he did not yet have a lawyer when he arrived so I'm wondering if there was a delay before he had legal advice.

Jason left his wife and daughter alive and well at home. When he returned, his wife had been murdered.

If that is the case why did he have to write her phone number down on the maps he printed out? This one keeps niggling at my brain....

PS- Not picking on your posts in particular Sunshine, you just are the one bringing up things that are wracking my brain today :)

He cut the lawn because he was expecting his father in law to visit the following day. Later that evening he learned that his father in law would not be visiting. We have to believe that although he made all sorts of plans during the day in anticipation of this visit, he then completely switched plans and decided to murder his wife. Even though it appears that he liked and respected his father in law, who had a terminal illness, he decided to murder the daughter of this dying man whom he liked and respected.

The earlier theory was that this was his third attempt on her life. The first attempt was apparently when they were boating, she fell into the water, and he didn't help. The second attempt was during a visit to Brevard when Jason was going too fast around a curve in the road, over corrected and drove down an embankment where the car ended up in the water. Michelle was in the early stages of a pregnancy at the time and the pregnancy ended.

The officer that attended the accident was very clear in stating that it was an accident, and not an attempted murder.

But Michelle didn't think that. He was trying to get rid of the baby IMO. Also, didn't he ask her to get something in the back which forced her to unbuckle her seat belt and that was where the suspicion was? It has been a long while since I followed this case. MO

Was this the time he texted MY (or emailed, not sure) complaining about mowing the lawn because it was hot and saying something snotty about CY?
I recall something like that, not sure if it was THAT day though.
TIA!

When this accident was first discussed, the rumor was that Jason deliberately caused Michelle to unfasten her seatbelt and then asked her to get something from the back seat. Then he went around the curve in the road, deliberately miscalculated the curve, carefully over corrected, and masterfully steered the vehicle down an embankment into the river. The rumor was that he did this to terminate the pregnancy. The fact is that Michelle and Jason then got pregnant again ... a few months later. It doesn't add up that Jason wanted to terminate a pregnancy and then immediately participate in another pregnancy.

According to the officer that attended the scene, the rumor is a rumor, and is not based in fact. It was an accident at a location in the road where there had been many accidents in the past.

I thought that was at a different time, but I don't know. Wasn't the email exchange on a day when there was some discussion about taking the child to an outdoor pool? Would it have been hot in November?

Well, it was exactly 2 months yesterday (April 16th) that the state officially asked the Supreme Court to review the appellate ruling of ordering JY a new trial.......soooooooooooooooooooo, maybe another 30-45 days?

Not sure about the weather that exact day.
I could only find monthly records...High for Nov, 2006 was 81 degrees-

I think the message was from a different time though, probably.
(Feeling too lazy to go back and find it :sigh: )

Thanks for the weather report... :) but this was important, so thanks!!
This was one of the weird days in NC that it was 81 during the day and went down to freezing at night.
The temperature must have dropped close to 50 degrees.

Yeah, and the rumor failed to explain how Jason wouldn't be hurt in the wreck either!!
However, this is the testimony from the investigating officer who declared it to be an accident and never wavered from his original findings. Officer David Dicks did not testify in the first trial, just the second.
