So you're saying that Patsy wanted both herself and JonBenet to be famous because of JonBenet's murder?

Maybe so.

JonBenet and Patsy are definitely very well known; but I would say that JonBenet is a lot more famous than her mother is. After all, it's JonBenet whose picture is on the covers of magazines, it's JonBenet whose videos are shown on the news, it's JonBenet who is a household name.

That's true. But then, Patsy was the one on TV milking it for sympathy. She seemed to be enjoying herself.

Also, what kind of fame was Patsy looking for? Did she want to be known as the innocent, grieving mother of the most famous murdered child since the Lindbergh baby? Since most of the country believed she was guilty, I would say that plan backfired on her. Or is just being known as the mother of JonBenet Ramsey, whether people think she's a killer or not, good enough for her?

Hard to say, eileen. There's an old saying: any publicity is good publicity as long as they spell your name right. Michael Kane seemed to lean toward that when he said that Patsy loved being known as the mother of a dead beauty queen. But to address the first point, just because most of the country believed her to be guilty does not mean that her plan, if she had one, to be the "innocent, grieving mother of the most famous murdered child since the Lindbergh baby" backfired. If you look at it a certain way, it reinforces it. The whole point is to be seen as a victim. This way, Patsy is victimized TWICE: both by the killer, and by the police and media.

I'm just spitballing, eileen. We all have our thoughts and reasons.

I was thinking about this some more and I believe that the R's never thought the case would become as huge as it did. They would move to Atlanta and start over, like JonBenet never existed. If the case had never become huge, they would have never had to spend millions on lawyers or have their reputation ruined. I was also looking at old articles about the case and the R's did a big media blitz in 2000 which included 5 days of Today show interviews plus 20/20 and Larry King Live and some MSNBC interview. This was all done to promote their book, so they used their national media coverage at their disposal to benefit themselves only and not their murdered daughter. I really don't think the R's did that many interviews, compared to how many they could have done over the years, and if Patsy was desperate for attention, wouldn't they be doing an interview every week of the '90s? I suppose there's the possibility that Patsy wanted to do interviews all the time but John was more cautious and put his foot down, nervous that she could possibly say something incriminating during them. I bet that if John had died instead of Patsy in June 2006, Patsy would have done a lot more interviews than John did when JMK was arrested or when they were cleared in 2008.
