Jeff Ashton -Retired? Not if he has anything to say about it! ;) ***Updated***

I know one regular WSer who is out of the country right now that is going to be DEVASTATED when she returns and finds out Ashton has already retired....

I know...I've been thinking about poor SOTS. :(

I think he did a fairly good job, he just let that animosity towards Baez take control and it hurt the case. I don't think the jurors liked his attitude, and that's all I will say to that. A LOT of lawyers play games in the courtroom, especially in high-profile cases. Some are truly dedicated to seeking justice, but unfortunately, most of them can't win every time.

He is no doubt a good attorney, and he may have success in a private practice, or he could decide to just enjoy life. Whatever his choice, I wish him the best. I'm sure he's disappointed that he isn't going out on a blaze of glory, but I respect him and the whole team for giving it their best shot.

Thanks so much Jeff Ashton! I felt your passion & I think you did a great job & I wish you all the luck in your future endevours!

This is very sad to hear. He is an outstanding Prosecutor and this is going to be a loss.

I guess when he looked at what the bar passes off as lawyers nowadays he opted out.

I bet HHJP is celebrating!! Happy dance!! His disdain for JA was so plain for everyone to see....especially, the jury. Good day for the judge!!

I have nothing but the deepest respect and admiration for Jeff Ashton, Linda Burdick and Frank George. This was a travesty of justice due to the ignorance of the jury, not anything the prosecutors did. The jurors aren't speaking because they obviously can't string a few words together. Cowards.

Jeff Ashton will be on the Today Show tomorrow... so will Jesse Grund & Mark Lippman (dont care about him).

Mr. Ashton... thank you for fighting so very hard for Caylee. You've put your heart & soul into this case and trying to deliver justice for her. I admire you tremendously. Best wishes for your future endeavors.

This is going to be the most unpopular post in the history of WS, but I'm glad he's retiring, and on a loss.

I never felt that his focus or passion was about justice for Caylee.
Like JB, I think his focus was on winning high-profile case. They both game-played and broke rules.

LDB on the other hand was dignified throughout.

JMO

I agree to some extent. JA was doing his job, as was JB. It's easy to paint him as the hero, but many are placing him on a pedestal and it's impossible to maintain such an image of infallibility. I can't say I'm necessarily glad that he is retiring, or that he is retiring with a loss. I too feel that egos likely got in the way here and perhaps had more appropriate charges been prosecuted JA would be the one celebrating tonight. And if it is true that he is appearing on The View tomorrow? :waitasec: I do feel he will go on to be extremely successful in whatever arena he next practices. As will JB, unfortunately.

JA is one of Caylee's angels here on earth.....that makes him a hero in my heart.

I am sorry to see Mr. Ashton retiring. He is one of the finest EVER. He has done everything and everything possible for the victims of murder. He has been their voice. What a wonderful person, with a huge heart, and a desire for the truth to be known. He will be missed. Thank you Mr. Ashton, Linda and Mr. George for all that you did for Caylee Marie. Here is a video I hope that you will see. I found it on you tube. Someone else, beside myself, and many, many others, understand your cause. This person made this special video....

That just gets my heart.:heartbeat:

Thank you for the posts regarding JA's appearances today! I took last night off from WS, the internet, TV, etc. and just unplugged.

I'm grateful that his television appearances will be my last interaction with this trial. I will not participate in watching the sentencing for ICA, as my heart, spirit, and mind just can't take it.

Jeff Ashton will be on In Session at 2:00 today for a hour long interview with Beth K. .

I'm tired of hitting the Thank you button, so here's a post thanking all the posters on this thread that are sad that a soldier for victims and justice is retiring but wishing him the best.

He has served his district well and Mr. Ashton was and is a pioneer for bringing science and DNA into the court room, his contributions to his justice can never be lauded enough.

:tyou:

Mr. Ashton confirmed this morning on the Today Show that this retirement was planned and actually had been delayed so he could work on the Anthony case.

Just wanted to wish Mr. Ashton the best! I hope he enjoys a slower pace, time with his family and friends, and pride in knowing he did his best in this case and throughout his career.

A huge loss for Florida's judicial system. I can't say enough good things about Team Caylee and Jeff Ashton in particular. They never lost their focus on the victim in this case.
