Found Deceased Jenny Hall, 23, described as a keen long distance runner, vehicle located on the B2678 between Eggleston & Stanhope, County Durham, Feb 18 2025.

A terribly sad outcome….though as time went by it became more likely a recovery rather than rescue mission.

It is entirely possible that she died due to a previously undiagnosed heart condition.

This has happened to three young adults I have known, occurring ’out of the blue’ with no previous symptoms & only diagnosed at post-mortem examination ( autopsy).

Whatever the cause, the loss of one so young is a tragedy & my heart goes out to her family, friends & community.

I believe it was an accident. I wish people wouldn't suggest suicide, it's too early for that.

Why did you believe accident and where do you stand now?

I suppose suicide, if established, is not something we may ever be told anyway, as the family presumably would not want it known and to avoid unpleasant gossip about them.

Absolutely agree.
I see nothing shameful about suicide but I know some people do, unfortunately. So like you said, that's why it shouldn't be hidden, as it increases the stigma. It's a very sad thing if someone feels that's their only way out but they deserve our sympathy not us treating it like it's something that shouldn't be mentioned.

Agree - sometimes explanation is better than leaving people guessing. For example if an explanation was that xxxx person had unfortunately been suffering from depression and treated and it seems their burden became intolerable at a particular time. And that it's a tragedy. ie no blame!

Silence around it can create stigma (and denial). On the other hand I can understand if a family felt concerned they may receive negative comments, because unfortunately there are all kinds of people in the world, some are ignorant and say cruel things.

To me - an explanation seems important however. To understand how something happened. Or even to show that fell running is not dangerous, with the right precautions.

I wonder if her farm had firearms and one was missing … hence police knowledge and not wanting volunteers

Many farmers do own them

Farmers typically own shotguns and some have a firearms licence for a hunting rifle but I can't see a woman being able to kill herself with either without major contortions, eg using toes to squeeze the trigger. Handguns are effectively illegal here except in extremely tightly controlled circumstances.

This is a common myth. It's very easy to use a shotgun or a rifle to shoot yourself.

It's irrelevant to the current discussion, though.

I would assume that her death has a known immediate cause but that there is some doubt about background contributory factors. If it was a straight forward case like a suicide, I would imagine the inquest would have started and been concluded by now. Perhaps it's a more complex medical case.
