Jian Ghomeshi, well known, well respected radio host fired for Sexual Assault

  • #101
This is an excellent article -- a must read for every young woman in general.

This lady realizes she ''dodged'' a bullet and now can have ''closure'' on a befuddling relationship that could have been re-ignited if these allegations had not come to light. (MOO)

I would amend that to say it should be read by women of all ages. Abusive relationships can come at any age.

http://business.financialpost.com/2...ip-he-had-to-play-in-his-defence-lawyer-says/

"Under normal circumstances, Ghomeshi would still have one life raft left — the protection of his union, through which he has said he will file a workplace grievance. Except, there, too, he may be out of luck.

Ghomeshi is represented by the Canadian Media Guild (CMG), which has a history of prioritizing respectful workplace environments. If his allegedly victimized CBC co-workers — who are also unionized — or the guild’s political supporters outside of the corporation complain that their interests are being ignored or even violated (by the union supporting an alleged abuser and harasser), the union has the right to refuse to take his case any further."

Edited to Add:

There's at least one union rep who knew about this. Let's hope the Star is following up on that angle.

"When she finally did complain to a union rep, he said she could file a formal grievance, take part in mediation with Mr. Ghomeshi or meet more discreetly with the executive producer. Fearful that a grievance or face-to-face confrontation would torpedo her fledgling career, she chose the third option, she said."

On Thursday, Ghomeshi showed tapes to the CBC where he is violent towards women. He said that bruises are part of the fun sex game. The CBC has said that he is harming a woman or women in the tapes. After seeing the tapes, CBC began the process of terminating his employment. He was not on the air on Friday. This is Jian's version of Thursday's home-movies sharing time with his employer, depicting Jian beating a woman:

Jian Ghomeshi: "On Thursday I voluntarily showed evidence that everything I have done has been consensual. I did this in good faith and because I know, as I have always known, that I have nothing to hide. This when the CBC decided to fire me.”

I really liked Moxy Fruvous. I loved Jian on Q. I was sad for him when his father died. When CBC announced he was taking personal leave, I thought it was grief-related. When they fired him, I thought he had been putting together another show somewhere else, probably in NY or LA. As the news broke, I had trouble reconciling the egalitarian, humanist commentator I loved with monster who would get off on beating women. I don't have that problem now. The photos of him that accompany news stories creep me out, and his voice makes my skin crawl.

Radio is such an intimate medium. There are no visuals, only a voice. We listen to it in our bedrooms, in our cars, while we are relaxing or doing hobbies or chores. I was surprised and then somewhat gladdened to know that the fabulous essays I attributed to JG were actually written by the talented Matt Tunnacliffe and Sean Foley. Those wise words don't belong to someone whom I am ashamed to have enjoyed following.

I am so proud of the women who have stepped forward to share their experiences. My heart goes out to them. They may have saved many others from similar fates. And I am hopeful that a silver lining will be a more fulsome discussion and understanding of what constitutes consent, and how we need to support people who experience such brutal assaults, especially at the hands of those who hold power in our society.

The day after he over shared with his employer:

"As if that wasn’t shocking enough to the country, many of us were stunned with the venom with which the CBC struck back. First they fired Ghomeshi, but the next day they didn’t just paint or cover their extensive Ghomeshi branding throughout their stations, they ceremoniously ripped it all from the wall. Plaster hanging, sheetrock torn. ... CBC chose to demolish it with gusto ... they surprised us all by leading the charge of putting accusers on record by releasing the first interview on As It Happens."

Friend of Jian, Owen Pallett: "But Pallett also writes that there is "no grey area here" and that "at no point here will I ever give my friend Jian’s version of the truth more credence than the version of the truth offered up by three women. Anonymity does not mean these women do not exist ..."BDSM and choke play is a subversion of male violence. To hear that anybody has been abusing the BDSM power relationship for the purpose of engaging in non-consensual violence-against-women is horrifying. "

If BigEarsTeddy turns around because he doesn't need to see the beatings, then the camera must be in the back of BigEarsTeddy ... and the victim must have figured that out and taken the recording somehow.

"One would think authorities have the obligation to be involved now, today. After all, @BigEarsTeddy alleges that Ghomeshi kept a library of media involving video and photos of his violent attacks on women, and that she even has her own footage on her own attack."

Jian Ghomeshi is like a savage. He uses his charm and intellect to seduce women. Once he has them in his grasps, he looks for the right moment to get away with violently assaulting them. He used his position of power to get away with violently assaulting women, and apparently the CBC turned a blind eye as they envisioned consentual bondage scenarios between their man Q! Jian Ghomeshi and the women he victimized.

Although the CBC had a head's up about this in April ... it continued.
Apparently the CBC needed an awful lot of confirmation before they believed that their boy Jian Ghomeshi was beating up women for kicks on the side. Finally, after viewing tapes of Ghomeshi beating women, did they believe that he beat women for kicks. Apparently the CBC was right in there like a dirty shirt assuming that the tapes were of consentual sex. Other than deciding to fire Ghomeshi, what else did the CBC think after viewing Ghomeshi punching women in the head in his over-shared home movies?

According to blogs and media releases, everyone that knew Jian knew that he had troubled relationships with barely legal women. Apparently the music industry knew full well that he should not be left alone with a young 20 something woman, yet how often was he seen with a 20 something woman and no one intervened?

It's almost like Ghomeshi is a gay man unable to come to terms with his sexuality, so he beats women in an attempt to suffocate his desire for men.

Very good article by Dan Savage that I missed from last week. Lots of stuff here, including an interview with a consenting partner:

http://www.thestranger.com/slog/arc...rviews-with-two-women-who-dated-jian-ghomeshi

snip....So this isn't about some poor persecuted pervert, to borrow Zanin's phrase, but about either an abuser hiding behind the BDSM scene's culture of consent (and a celebrity leveraging his fame and power) or a sociopath who believes that initiating violent sex is the same thing as asking for consent to violent sex....snip

Aside: I just read on twitter that he was doing this while at York University in 1988 and he became Student Body prez and he was taking Women's Studies (!!!) Not substantiated yet but could be checked in the York records somehow, I'm sure (Prez and studies part).

I do believe he was into the 'real deal' and that would be rape. He could have met many, many people who are into what he seems to be into so why not just hook up that way? He chose innocent victims to frighten them and get off on that. JMO

from your link

"Now he is a fugitive from national outrage, reportedly in Los Angeles, facing a criminal investigation involving two women. He has also filed a massive lawsuit for defamation and breach of confidence, as well as a union grievance to be reinstated in his job, from which the CBC fired him on Sunday"

not surprised.....he probably was there say....Sunday night a week ago....

Another good article. An interview with Jesse Brown who partnered with the Toronto Star to break this story. He was initially approached by a woman and was able to gather more evidence from other victims.

It ends like this:

http://www.torontolife.com/informer...ed-journalist-exposed-jian-ghomeshis-secrets/

It's a valuable interview to highlight why journalism in general seems so ''timid'' currently -- I agree with his view that a reasonable person's risk of losing their 'resources' in defence in courts just for a story is both dangerous and foolhardy!
It is better to team up with the Star in this case with their fleet of attorneys and deeper pockets for potential litigation. MOO
