Judge continues hearing in Jesse Matthew case

Circuit Court Judge David S. Schell on Friday continued a motion by attorneys for Jesse L. Matthew Jr. to suppress the identification during the trial, which is slated to begin June 8. Schell said he will now tentatively take up the issue June 4.

WASHINGTON – The woman who was raped and brutally beaten in Fairfax in 2005, allegedly by Jesse Matthew, has had her name published by the Fairfax County Circuit Court.

The woman was 26 when she was attacked while walking home from a Giant supermarket in Fairfax City, Sept. 24, 2005, allegedly by Matthew.

Matthew, who prosecutors say was linked by DNA, was indicted nine years later in the Fairfax case.

He is also charged with capital murder in the Sept. 2014 death of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham.

Early Wednesday morning, the court published on its website in an area dedicated to high-profile cases, a defense Notice and Motion to Suppress Unduly Suggestive Identification, which identified the complaining witness, with her full name.

Approximately six hours later, the filing was removed from the court’s website, after the woman’s name had been available to the public.

Jesse L. Matthew Jr., the lone suspect in the death investigation of Hannah Graham of Alexandria and also a suspect in the 2005 rape and attempted murder case of a 26-year-old Fairfax City woman, will face his live accuser next week.

According to an Oct. 24, 2014 certificate of analysis from the Virginia Department of Forensic Science, DNA evidence obtained from skin beneath RG’s fingernails match Matthew’s DNA to a probability of 7.2 billion to one. In 2010, state police said forensic evidence in the Harrington case matched forensic evidence in the 2005 Fairfax City case. Later, police said a forensic link also tied Matthew to the Graham case.

Me too. That she exists, that she lived through what she's lived through, and for her then to come across the world to for justice, she does have my complete admiration and awe. May she be well received and in comfort. The prayers and well wishes of so many I'm certain are with her as are mine.
